The most telling part of the article is Harris' apparent response to the reporter (I assume, Angelique) who asked if he'd told Beilein that he was leaving: "How did you find that out?" His subsequent refusals to confirm the news don't quite cancel out that statement. The article does lose some credibility just because Foster's name is on it. But, in this situation, Foster is more credible than he usually is. He is connected to some people in the Family, Harris' AAU team. I'd guess that Foster got the tip from someone close to Harris and then Angelique took it from there. Here's a guess: Harris will pick an agent from CAA, which has just signed William Wesley (Worldwide Wes) as an agent. Wes has his own connections to the Family. Wes won't be Harris' agent, though, because he's only going to represent coaches. And I'd also guess that Harris picks an agent soon.

Manny will put off hiring an agent for a little while. I think everyone expected him to test the draft waters and get feedback this year from NBA talent evaluators, but I'm a little surprised to hear his departure is a foregone conclusion. If Manny was smart he would put off hiring the agent until getting some conclusive feedback. A 2nd round pick in the NBA, especially late in the 2nd round may never make it on a team and only get a pithy portion of any salary due. However, if you can swing getting drafted in the late 1st like Maurice Ager did at MSU, then you have guaranteed money and can hang around for a few years. Best of luck to Manny, but I believe it is in UMs and Manny's best interest for him to come back for one more year. If he shows even a slight improvement on his jumper I think he can go in the late 1st.

I think this may be a mutual parting of ways. Manny and JB's relationship comes across as a little frosty at best. I think some of these chemistry issues may have had a little to do with how this year went. Just a thought. I expect Manny to just move on and hire an agent. He will get invited to an NBA camp, and if it doesn't work, he can make 6 figures in Europe, improve his game in an offense that better suits his skill set and work his way back across the pond.I wish him the best.

that would send shock waves through a young guy and friend, may be best for him to leave, if he comes back next year and they still don't make ncaa or nit, his stock goes down further

if for only to enjoy your last year of college, and a last year of basketball at this level. I think from a basketball perspective leaving is a valid option, but based on what the 'experts' think, it's going to be a lonely one over in Europe or somewhere. Another year at Michigan will do you about as much good as going overseas and the money...seriously, one more year of being poor ain't gonna hurt ya. Best of luck in your future, and if you choose to go, thnks fr th mmrs...

As mentioned earlier, her primary responsibility is auto racing. Michigan sports are a distant second, so most things she writes are either stale or speculative.

Angelique has treated UM more fairly than any other Detroit reporter for years. She realizes that melodrama belongs in the arena of competition and not in the newspaper and writes accordingly. She also seems to have developed some very good sources over the years. Also, she usually doesn't formulate opinions on issues like this without a lot of due diligence. We all have opinions, but hers is usually more educated than most of ours because of her access to inside info.

50-60 ranked, by most people, which is late second round, which isn't guaranteed, and it's a good chance he could go undrafted. Risky move, and I hope he changes his mind. I don't feel good about a kid leaving early unless he's a clear first round talent (guaranteed contract).

I hope that Manny gets very familiar with the path that John Wallace took before he hires an agent. I don't think he's ready for the NBA, but I wonder if he doesn't like playing for JB. Does anyone know if he's been working on his Greek or Italian? Best of luck to you Manny. Thanks for making Michigan basketball relevant again. From NYT about Wallace " The statistical improvement has been impressive. But the more important measure, Wallace's effect on the flow of the game, has been more dramatic. Wallace was a 29 percent 3-point shooter last season, but this season, in 14 conference games, his accuracy beyond the arc has increased to 47 percent. At 6 feet 8 inches and 225 pounds, Wallace has the size and the inclination to take the game inside. His development as a more reliable outside thre't has made his power moves that much more dangerous. Once inside, Wallace has worked to make the most of his effort. He was a 68 percent foul shooter as a junior, so he went to work during the summer. "You very rarely see someone standing in the park in the summertime, shooting free throws," Wallace said. The result has been an 81 percent rate this season. "

Keep in mind that there are three possible outcomes of Manny's decision, not just two: 1. He announces he's staying. That's definitive. 2. He announces he's declaring and will sign with an agent. Also definitive - he will forfeit his eligibility. 3. He announces he's declaring and will not sign with an agent. Not definitive; he would have until a week before the draft in June to decide for good whether he's staying in. It appears that #1 is unlikely, but #3 might not be. If he decides to go that route, then things are still up in the air for awhile, depending on how he does in the predraft camps. He can't be satisfied with his current draft stock (late 2nd round or undrafted), so he has to be banking on turning in a monster predraft performance.
