Man-Ball vs. Denard-Ball?

Submitted by BlueUPer on

Identity crisis?  I think Man-Ball is going to have to wait at least one more season.  We need to run the zone read more often!   I think Al Borges knows it and soon, so will all other competent teams.  Ofcourse we'll still sprinkle in the stretch, the pulls,  but when we need to safely move the ball on the ground when all else has failed, including the confidence of our passer, (screens, staying in the pocket, stepping into throws) we will go back to the zone read.  Why?  Because it works and we have perhaps an even more competent QB to run this than we have in the last 4 years.  I mean, he was the top rated dual threat QB coming out of HS.

Maybe this is best for us!  Perhaps we need to be who we really are, instead of who we want to be.  At least, for one more year, when our highly rated O-line and RB classes mature.

I just want Michigan to score more points than the other team. That's the goal right? I don't care how Michigan gets to a victory, just get there. Pretty or not I just like a win. That's all that matters. That's part of fandom , it's not always easy, you might have a heart attack on some Saturdays. Relax, we won.

games like this happen...MANBALL will win out (thank God)....I am seriously confident in our staff. Lots of games that should be blowouts, are not....this is just another one...that said, I was in panic mode at the end of the game! LOL....I think we will see our team really go on a roll here now....watch and learn

In reality how come it can't be a mixture of both? Brian Kelly made a great point about our team. You have to prepare for power and spread because we can do either. We should probably use this to our advantage to keep opposing defenses off balance, especially given our offensive line's inconsistency getting push off the line. Maybe even line up in I-formation and audible into pistol. I'm no offensive genius but we shouldn't limit ourselves to MANBALL especially since we're not so good at it.

WE WON!!! Get over it. It was a crappy game.  They are all big boys they understand that they all played like shit.  It will get corrected and wow do I feel sorry for UCONN.  They are going to get destroyed.

he will have his runs still but if he gets hurt, he would running denards offense, then we get stuck with a true freshmen in November and a walk on redshirt freshmen. no thanks.

Look, our offense is only as good as our OL allow it to be. Doesn't matter what we run, if the OL cannot protect devin and create some holes for our RBs to hit, then we will struggle. The singular problem for our offense is not fitz, devin or the scheme. It is the OL. Also, we have a true lack of good receivers other than Gallon, so defenses can cheat and bring more heat at the line of scrimmage.

All of that said, because our interior OL is not getting the job done, we were most effective on the zone read because devin had an extra blocker to block for him. I expect that given devin's skill set, we will continue to see a fair amount of zone reads mixed in.

I am going to say the same thing I said when RR was getting fucked: support your coaching staff and give them five years to cycle through and have their own fifth-year senior class.  Why do I get a feeling that many of the same people who bitched about RR are the ones now bitching about Borges and Hoke?

For those who want a referendum between MANBALL and the modern offense, wait until November 28, 2015.  That is, of course, if Urban Meyer is still at Ohio.  You never know when he may leave for "family considerations."

How many Big Ten titles, or even WHIFFS of it, did DENARD-Ball provide?    That will answer your question.....

exchange rate than the average over the past decade. As another poster said, always good to use all your weapons in today's game. Believe me, If NE and Denver had mobile qbs, they too would use it if there came a point when they felt it would provide more power to their offense. In their unique cases, they have better odds keeping it in Qb hands. True with Denver anyway with all its weapons. NE's receivers will probably grow into some sort of reminder of wrs of the past.  SF, Seattle and other teams possessing mobile qbs have no problem implementing it into their game plans.    ^ I think it might actually help our running game inasmuch as we are in the one back formation so often anyway. And I think a small dose of running behind Taylor would be beneficial, not unlike the final game of LC's career where he opted to spread out the receivers and have Hart run behind Jake.  Returns were good.  The rushing attack after the first three games takes me back to LC's philosophy of we'll run even if we gain nothng, only to have Henne bail us out with a big third down pick up.  Some times you just have to play with your strengths especially when your weakenesses have been found.  Always work to correct them but not at the expense of a loss.

Based on Hoke's post game speech I get the feeling he and the coaches were watching he same game.  Not controlling the middle, poor kicking, bad judgement, shitty ball protection.  He pretty much called it as we saw it.  The only difference is we seem more pissed off about it than he did but I get he feeling the players know how absolutely pissed off or upset he really was.  I'm pretty sure that our well paid coaching staff might be considering many of our suggestions.  I'm prepared to trust them.  We still don't even know what this team really looks like but based on the first three games I'll say somewhere between a diamond and a turd (leaning towards a diamond).  A few facts that I'll enjoy: 1) We won't be taking anybody lightly in the future 2) we're still undefeated at home with this staff 3) I personally remain hopeful for the future

Wolfman and JJgoblue are spot on.  There is no reason why you can't do both.  That is what made Florida so deadly.  They just had a QB who could be the power back.  The problem with manball is if you meet a bigger man you have no answers.  It is great if you have bigger linemen and can just dominate a whimpy has been.  Likewise a team that has great speed can stop the S & S.

Football in the NFL is about out thinking your opponent.  The draft and free agency are the equalizer and your talent edge never lasts.  Recruiting will allow us to beat up on the waste that is the Big Ten.  But if we want to beat OSU again our staff has to man up when it is our advantage and go spread when it is our advantage.

To walk away from one asspect of football because it is beneath you is silly and arrogant.

try handing the ball to #36.  on most plays he has five yards before he levels the lb.
