Malik McDowell to Southfield?
Saw this come across the twitter.
This guy is the defensive coordinator at Cass Tech (his twitter says it). Why is this relevant to him and Cass Tech? They open against Southfield in August. Also over at 247sports, there is a thread on the board about a Malik McDowell rumor so I assume this is what they are talking about.
Keep in mind, commit Lawrence Marshall goes to Southfield as well..
McDowell to Southfield ? Newest gossip in the city! I wonder how true.
Now if only Hand would transfer to Southfield....
I can't believe we're losing recruits to high schools now!
How can he do that without sitting out the football season?
It's high school. I'm not sure the NCAA transfer rules apply here.
In high school if you transfer without moving you have to sit out a semester.
Cass Tech is not private. The rule is true in Michigan but not for all kids, I have found.
McDowell doesn't go to Cass Tech, he goes to Detroit Loyola.
If true, I'm honestly not sure what particular part of his situation is happening that's making him expempt from sitting out. My older sister played college basketball, and in high school when her recruitment started to heat up, she transferred from a small a2 private school to Ann Arbor Huron to get a little more visibility playing against better competition. She transferred there as soon as her sophomore season was over, and thus her sitout period was the 2nd semester of that year. That was all she needed to wait to be cleared to play her junior year.
I was able to find something from the MHSAA on tranfer rules and exceptions *here*, but without knowing the full story, who knows which exception McDowell is going to be able to use.
Looks like Drew Baker (Kentucky Commit) got an invite to Elite 11 Finals.
Congratulations to Drew Barker, the 16th invite to the #Elite11Finals. Was determinedduring #MidnightMadness.

I've never heard of Baker.
Cool story, Mrs. Baker.
It's Drew Barker.
playing together i feel sorry for opposition qbs.
just think how college qb's are going to feel when Hand is lined up with both those guys.
I'll be interested to see how Jayru Campbell and the RB Mike Weber do against that DLine.
I know we're all disappointed, but show some grace and wish the kid well. I wish him good luck in all games except when Michigan plays Southfield.
Where did you see that?
Edit: Rivals has it listed, but 247sports doesn't.
to their D.
is that the old Lions WR? One in the same?
For purposes of clarity, the Lions WR was Germane Crowell (1998-2002, 2nd round pick out of Virginia, as I recall). He actually does coach, however, but in his home state of North Carolina.
As for Malik McDowell going to play for Southfield, I have to believe that might help us, and indeed, according to some other tweets that have floated about, a few commits - including Peppers - have said they will help in the effort to get McDowell as well as others.
So is UM creating a Southfield pipeline?
I think it's already there. The last big time guy to play at Southfield was Gabe Watson I'm pretty sure. Not a talent rich school historically.
In 2012 they had Leviticus Payne (Cinn) and Ron Thompson (Syracuse).
A lot of that's because the best kids in Southfield have often found a way to enroll at Farmington Harrison, just a couple miles over.
Not sure why but I love the name Malik. Just sounds badass
Doesn't want to wait until he gets to Michigan to play with his friend.
ask Urban Meyer
HE IS A FOUR STAR, DO YOU THINK HE IS ANY GOOD? WE HAVE HAD A LOT OF BUSTS THERE AS OF LATE. JAKE RYAN WAS A THREE STAR!
(if you don't get it, check out the OP's posts in the Hand post)
Southfield also has a rising junior corner/receiver named Ray Buford who has visited Michigan and a rising sophomore running back named Matt Falcon who might be the top in-state player in the 2016 class.
