Maize Rage

Here's a few notes about the 'Rage meeting from tonight, if anyone's interested: Darius Morris was a surprise guest this week; he had a few legitimate ideas and the rest of the meeting wasn't awkward at all. Some ideas passed around/details: - One idea pushed around was to create an alternate sound track for when the opposing team is warming up on court and our players are in the locker room, which is usually about a five to ten minute period before the game. The sound track would include inspirational tunes like "Party in the USA" and "It's Raining Men". - Morris said he really liked what Indiana does when the opposing team shoots free throws (their fans had dozens of huge signs with random people's faces on them, not sure on specific details) - There's a drive for more stunt ideas for the student section, so if you have ideas, share if you want. - Crisler ranks as the 14th hardest place to play in the country this year and the goal is to be #1, which has been a repeated point so far. - Morris also said something along the lines of: "Beilein loves you guys, he's always excited to know you'll be there and we really appreciate it" P.S. If anyone who lives in the A2 area has a copy of the HBO Michigan-Ohio State documentary, Markley Hall needs a copy to do a mass showing to all the freshmen who don't really "get it."

They played really goofy music for the opposing team during warm-ups. It wasn't the entire time, but against one team there was a specific song that mocked their nickname I think. The best thing I have ever seen for distracting people on free throws was actually against us at MSU a couple years back. Everybody sat down behind the basket and then stood up right as Anthony Wright was about to shoot. There's a video of it out there somewhere. It definitely worked, because Wright missed both free throws.

You should check the Askwith Media Library on the 2nd floor of the UGLi, they have like 6000 DVDs, and I'm sure that documentary is one of them. You can use Mirlyn to see if it's checked out or not before you stop in. Make sure to return it on time, though, it's a $5/day late fee.

One thing that I really like and is hard to ignore while an opponent is shooting free throws is counting their dribbles. We tried to do this in the band a couple years ago but there are very few of us so it was hard to hear. (I then transferred to Syracuse and let's just say at women's hoops games there, where there might be 500 people for a big game, it's a bit more noticeable.) If the entire student section / band / other intelligent fans could be completely silent except for a loud "ONE... TWO..." etc. in unison as the player did his pre-shot routine, and then shrieked as the shot was just about to leave his hands, I think it could be effective, depending of course on the constitution of the opposing player in question.
