um no. Maize is absolutely great, but why tamper with perfection?
spoiler alert: i linked this
um no. Maize is absolutely great, but why tamper with perfection?
I think they would be awesome as a ONE TIME jersey or to be used possibly as an away jersey for a season or two? I don't think anybody wants to replace the epicness of our home jersey, but mixing up the away or as a one time alternate would be pretty awesome
age = 20
NCAA mandates all away jerseys must be white. and No they would look gross Age: 19
As long as the conference, both teams and officials agreed.
I know thats the rule for basketball, but I thought they changed it for football too.
They changed it for football also after the USC. UCLA debacle where the away team got charged a timeout for non-white away uniforms so the home team started off the game with a timeout to make things fair.
We used some maize jerseys last year for our QBs in practice. They looked hideous. The answer is obviously no. (24)
Something I think looks significantly better, yet still has something off about it is All-Whites:
They would look sick. As a one time thing, then discarded and burned, never to be seen again.
They would look sick, awesome, tight, cool, and whatever other adjective you want to throw in there. This should not be a one time thing, but also should not be worn every game. I would rather see all white before all maize, but either way, I would love it. 22.
Edit: I am 23
Same here, to opinion and age.
pretty lame, i dont even like when our basketball team wears them. But I think we should use the wolverine head logo more, looks pretty badass IMO.
on the maize jerseys and shorts for the bball team. Those are my favorite ones. As for football, no thanks.
We should have wolverine head helmets. Meat helmets too.
Looks great on the basketball team. I don't see why it wouldn't work on the football field. I vote yes
It would look worse than using the possessive form of a noun when you mean to use the plural form.
Everyone seem's to do that now. In ten year's time, it will wind up becoming accepted standard grammar.
Except that in ten year's [sic] time, it will be spelled "grammer" and I will be sad.
Yeah, I think they would look cool for a game. Looks good on our hockey team and our basketball team, so I don't see why it wouldn't be the same for our football team. I bet Denard would look faster in maize too.
Maize Jerseys are a no go... or at least a shouldn't go.
to deal with people who use any combo of the phrase "that's sick". So I'll tell you what I do.
You said, "that would be sick." Your argument is invalid.
Also all maize jerseys would be terrible.
Can't you all read? Put your age in! lol
There is a fine line between staying on the "edge" and screwing with tradition and this does nothing but ADD to the tradition of this great university.
I think it would be really sweet! 21
thing after the first couple of responses. Forgive them
Yes! I love them for basketball and would be interested to see how they look for football. Definitely as another option. 30
I'm having an argument with a friend who espouses the use of apostrophes in plural nouns. Just to ask the general opinion.
Also, for research purposes, please leave your age.
Plural noun's need the apostrophe's
their's know way I'm going to get into some grammer argument on the internet LOL!!!
however, i think the maize jerseys on top of maize pants would look a little bit tacky. other than that though, i think it would be a great idea. I mean, i can't imagine them looking any worse than than the night game jerseys. Those IMO look awful
So you're the guy who's been telling Dave Brandon we need a mascot. No NO NO!!!! Maize Jerseys would look terrible. Check out Cal's uniform. Think that only a far far greater slap in the face to tradition. Oh, and for what it's worth, 29.
I don't want a stupid mascot
Please see some user created types here. The Maize concept looks not good. Age 27
Edit: Better Link
I love maize unis on both the bball and hockey team...
HOWEVER, my concern with them in football is that we would end up looking like WVU, Cal, or some other team that occasional rocks yellow uniforms with blue as a second color.
That being said, I wouldn't flip out if they did it for one game. I am a little disappointed with the night games uniforms, but at the end of the day, its just one game and I'm sure some people like them.
Oh, and I'm 24 yo.
Yeah maybe one time only for a night game. Maize jerseys would look cool at night. But that's it. Never again. I just hope adidas doesn't do this Legacy deal every year like Nike does with pro combat crap. Ohio gets a new one-game-only jersey every year since 09 that moronic fans bitch about but then go out and buy the stuff. I mean for God sake, their ugly ass uni's last year looked they were wearing tights with the gray socks and pants and the helmets looked like Rutgers without the R.
And I'm 29.
My sentinments exactly. A little more PG than mine, perhaps.
I'm with this guy....
I agree wholeheartedly with this sentiment. Except I wish he would have phrased it a little stronger.
The yellow jersey doesn't look good when Cal uses it, and it wouldn't look good for us. I'm 42.
I like the basketball but on the football team, I'm not feeling it. 15
On our basketball and hockey teams.
Age == 21
No maize jerseys. 21.
Hopefully not something like this...
I just threw up a little...
I just threw up a lot...
I just threw up from my penis....which would mean I like them....wait
The helmet is the only part of this uni that i like.
OH MY SWEET DEATH!
yeah that looks like murder.
EDIT: Yeah I'm 21
YES YES YES I LOVE THIS!
Personally I would love to see a bunch of spongebobs running around out there.
7 years old
dammit, no. forever no. 26.
has potential to be very good, only as an alternate though. 16
i think they would actually look....suck
Absolutely not for football.
Yes only if it was a one time gig, and they went to blue pants.
I know DB would be for this because i can only imagine how many additional Jerseys they would sell.
I think they might look pretty cool as a one time thing but ONLY with blue pants.
Maybe a bowl game or something.
I don't like the idea myself. The maize does look good on the hockey team, but they wear blue pants(shorts?). I think the football team would have to do the same to make a maize jersey look decent. The basketball maizes look good too, but the sleeveless nature and shorts make it so there isn't an overwhelming amount of maize.
Oh, and 19.
Well they would make me sick does that count? Most definitely no to maize jerseys(I do love the MBB and hockey ones though).
Why mess with perfection? And no offense, but I'm not in the habit of giving my age out online. Once you have someone's age it's fairly easy to change their passwords on most sites.
Translation: I'm over 50 and paranoid of those intertube hackers, they come out at night!
If it was my choice, I'd say no thank you, and I'm 21.
The way you worded your question may cause some problems with your data. For my generation sick means bad, I’m almost sure you think sick is good. So if you’re truly doing this for research then you may want to word your question different. I would say sick
Age = 45
Maize jerseys are a no-no. I personally just like the blue. In addition, we add maize jerseys and the next thing you know we're WV or Oregon and have a million different uni combos and stupid little wings on our shoulders.
Edit: I'm 22
And for the end of stupid polls.
I'm 51, so my opinion is irrelevant.
Oh, and as regards Maize, I don't care. I want Michigan teams to win, and I want to be proud of them. I'd rather have Maize head to toe and 12 - 0, then tradition and a 4 loss team. But that is a false choice. Maize jerseys, or the lack thereof, have little to nothing to do with the number of wins.
My only comment is that it has got to be really hard to come up with something that is cool and classic, rather than tacky, horrendous, and trite. I won't say that maize would never work, but I haven't been encouraged by the mock ups I have seen so far. What would the pants be?
For comparison, I have looked around the interwebz, and find it interesting that neither USC nor LSU nor FSU nor ND use gold / yellow jerseys. I think these may be the most popular teams with gold / yellow in their colors. The one photo I found was from Georgia Tech, and it wasn't impressive. Somehow, the vision of a neon maize jersey is just painful to consider. It would be so loud, so overwhelming, so over the top. Again, I won't say it can't happen, but I have my doubts.
For me, the best real world example is when the Chicago Bears wear orange jerseys. I just don't like it nearly as much as their traditional look. It isn't the end of the world when it happens, but I don't like it that much. Here is a link to the Rams wearing what looks like maize: http://www.uni-watch.com/2010/12/05/nfl-color-vs-color-part-iii-a-modest-proposal/. I don't think it looks that good, to be honest.
You certainly had a lot to say...
Our colors are the best; why not try creative versions of the them every now & then?
New isn't better just by virtue of its novelty. Why try something new when what you have is great? You going to date a new chick every once in awhile even though you like your wife?
No. Now get off my lawn.
I'm 25 going on 70.
Our home unis are classic, but our away unis need a little help. We can never quite figure out what to do with them. Maize and white is not all that great of a look.
So, Maize jerseys on the away unis would look cool a couple of times a year for big games. Would freak out OSU.
The fact that I'm not leaving my age tells you my age.
No, it just does not look like Michigan football. When I think of the program as a whole, I think back to the early days, and not once do I see maize jerseys. The blue and white unis are perfect the way they are.
I'm 19. Who says the newer generations don't care for traditional Michigan values?
I like pretty colors. Maize is good, maybe we can splash some 'pastel easter blue' in there too.
I'm 24 and there's a reason it hasn't happened in over 130 years.
The home jerseys must not and will not change. But I'd love maize road jerseys. The current ones are pretty unremarkable. White jerseys and yellow pants just do not look very imposing. Maize jerseys with blue pants would look great -- see Cal -- and I'm sure the players would love them.
I definitely would not want to use maize for our home jerseys but for our boring white away jerseys i would not mind trying it. I would say that the maize jersey would have to be paired with blue pants. Also, I suggest some kind of blue on the shoulders of the jersey, in a similar fashion to the legacy jerseys, simply because I do not think that straight maize would look very good.
no way. which of these looks is supposed to be "sick" or "cool"??? I'm 21.
(sorry the last one is terrible quality, but I think it still illustrates the point...)
He should have yellow shoelaces.
But this proves that Denard looks good in anything. Sackcloth, cardboard, anything.
The only thing worse than maize jerseys would be blue pants. Do we want to be Indiana or a Arena Football team? Perfection should not be messed with. If M wears blue pants I'll lose my mind.
I wouldn't have a problem if they wore maize jerseys for ONE game. Blue pants would be cool though. I've always wanted to see us go all blue.
Have none of you people ever bothered to look at what actual teams that have done this shit look like? We've seen Purdue wear gold jerseys, Cal wear yellow, etc. They all look like absolute trash. It boggles the mind that this is even a discussion.
A commenter above noted that the major teams with yellow/gold (USC, ND, etc.) don't do this nonsense (which, duh.) They don't feel the *need* to, because they have an identity. What makes college sports great is that teams have real identities, grounded in communities that go generations deep. This means that not everyone has to do what everyone else does - individuality & uniqueness should be cherished and encouraged, not frowned upon as getting in the way of $$$.
Mid-20s, but I've been kicking kids off my lawn since my mid-teens. :)
about identity. I never thought about it that way, really. Also mid-twenties.
No. we are not Oregon.
Age: Your mom's
Two more votes: NO
Age, both 8
just say no. that being said.... no
No - Age 51
*grumpy 30 something*
I think it would be great to see once a year. I would also be interested to see if the people who think it is a terrible idea also think Michigan needs to go back to Nike, "because that's what the kids like."
Here's one opinion:
I say no to maize jerseys. I also think the "adidas sucks go back to Nike" schtick is ridiculous. It's pretty much the same exact stuff and not at all something to care about. jme
I'd like to just wear the blue every week, home or on the road. NO on the maize.
No way. Nope. Never. Do. Not want. So, no.
Are perfect and suitable for Men's basketball, but no deal.
if DB shoves one down our throats one day but definitely prefer he doesn't.
To quote the great Perry Cox" ...man jumping off of cliff... Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo (piff)"
I love them for bball and hockey, plus I think our away uni's are meh (yes, I know I'm in the minority there). The problem to me is, what color pants? Dark blue maybe? I'd have to see the design first.
Then again I'm 49, so WGAF what I think. GO BLUE!
I'm not in favor of any jersey changes but if DB wants to change it up for night games, then why not try maize once.
they would be so ugly I would cry blood.
edit: clearly I vote no.
For age, we'll call me "over 50." I really have nothing against change, but I just think the color would be too visually overwhelming and very camera-unfriendly in a game routinely played in the sun. It would work for a night game, though. Maybe a maize jersey could be made specifically for night games to make it even more of an event.
That way, they wouldn't have to have a special, one-off jersey like the one this year. One-off jerseys and shirts are great for a game that your team wins, but if they lose, you have wasted your money because you will never wear it again and don't really want to keep it as much of a souvenier. All they are really good for is car wash rags when your team loses.
An apostrophe for plural?
Adidas/ Nike have a way of making ugly jerseys.
I was born the year the last time they played Penn.
and I was born in the year of the last game against Cornell.
can I say it any other way? Not even for a "special" game. Perfection should be left up to God not mere mortals, especially those who want to make money from us.
Looking at the reactions after the night game unis this would be a horrible idea.
Oh yeah...25 yrs old
I have been saying this for more than 25 years.
I am 38 years old.
Also, legend has it that we wore a maize jersey (with blue numbers) in a 1928 game vs Navy (note: of course we won the game).
I just can't picture our players running around looking like a bunch of maize n' blue bumblebees.
A maize bball jersey is completely different than a maize football jersey. The bball jersey is much less farbic and thats why it doesnt look so bad. A maize football jersey would be overpowering. It would be awfully bright.... and ugly.
I would have to say stick with Blue. Btw Im 23
There is a reason some things are considered classic, and others are considered Fads. I enjoy the classic uniform, and am very hesitant over a possible new fad. Can you imagine wearing a liesure suit anytime soon? Somebody sure thought they were a good idea at some point in time.
RLRichardson pointed out the first thought I had - Oregon uni's.
Get off my lawn.
Michigan should leave their home uniforms alone (even for night games), arguably the best in college football. However, the road white uniform is just meh. White isnt one of the school colors. I think the maize top with the blue pants would look great on the road. Michigan would have to get special approval or do what USC/UCLA are doing (both forfeiting a timeout). They could probably do this for special games.
I just want the Nike Jerseys back please! No Maize!
Would like to see a white jersey like back in the 70's, but not a yellow.
Age: Old as dirt.
I think it would be a cool alternate ...Take our blue uniforms and switch the colors (maize to blue, blue to maize)... I think that would be cool as maybe a once a year thing ....33
...on the road (assuming it is allowed), vs. ND when they wear their green uniforms?
Not saying I like it. Just tossing it out there.
Also, maize and maize or maize with blue pants?
I think that the maize jerseys would look ok. But not all maize. And if they used for a home game then it would have to be a unimportant one. There is no way I see them running around in maize unis against a team like state.
Maize Jersey - No Thanks - Age 41
I will say that if the 1 time night game jerseys become common then 1 of them should be maize
Would you change to a maize helmet with blue wings?
Didn't think so.
So why change the jersey too much either? The away I don't have a problem with tweaking a little bit, but going from white to maize is going to look pretty awful I would think.
My worry is that DB will do something like this for the Alabama game next year. Look, I am not a fan of the 'retro' jerseys for the ND game this year...that said it is for a unique occasion in Michigan football history. If alternate jerseys become commonplace it dilutes the Michigan brand which DB talks about so much.
Edit: I can drink, and I'm in college, figure it out.
Also, what do you guys think of an NCAA rule change that would allow Michigan to wear the home jerseys on the road for a neutral site game in the future against a team wearing a different color jersey? (i.e. Michigan v. Alabama, or in a bowl game.) This is one rule about soccer that I always liked, in the English Premeir League, teams basically always wear their home jerseys when on the road unless the colors are too similar to the host team. I wouldn't mind seeing that change, so we could see Michigan in blue facing Alabama in red, instead of having one team wear white. Unfortunately it's the NCAA though...
Just no, no, no, no, no.
and if you say "sick" your opinion doesnt count....36
maize, blue and white tiger stripes
My age and opinion?
Nice try Athletic Department.
Also, no, no, no, no.
Protip: This "research" of yours would have actually been much more useful if you did a survey in zoomerang or surveymonkey. Seriously, takes like 5 minutes to set one up.
And it would look terrible.
That's a negative on the Maize.
As for age, I can't bring myself to type the numbers so I'll defer to the Romans or New York Giants: XLII
If it gets bri'onte here, I'd support purple jerseys.
You just can't beat tradition.
That will make a sweet avatar if I can shrink it to just show Denard carrying Lloyd Brady.
I knew there had to be something worthwhile to be found from aimlessly scrolling down this dumb thread. When in doubt, start a post about "Maize Jerzeyz" and watch the dander rise.
I don't care one way or the other.
Hey Lloyd! I haven't seen you in a while! How's it going? I'm looking forward to seeing you lots more in the next few months!
There is no reason to use an apostrophe in jersey.
I would like to see UM use a maize jersey on occasion but not replace a home or an away jersey permanently.
My response to our night game jersey all along has been "At least it's not maize." I like this idea as much as I liked watching Sparty fans run amuck all over A^2 last year. I personally don't even think a maize jersey by itself would look good. Even if I could get over that fact, white is pretty much the only color that can be pulled off in a monochromatic uniform (which can still look awful depending on the helmet). Any time a team has tried to pull of a bright color, yellow for WVU, Minnesota etc, red for the Texans one year on MNF, it has failed miserably. That being said, the idea of putting blue pants on and turning us into an 1980's softball team makes me sad and depressed. In short, no thank you.
Not this shit again.
Basketball and Hockey, yes. Football - never.
I am 40. (And yes "I"M A MAN!" Coach Gundy's rant is the best thing about being 40.)
How about a nice, big, emphatic NO.
Maize? Forget maize. How about alternate BLACK JERSEYS?!
I'm having an argument with a friend who thinks we should wear blue pants, regardless of jersey color.
Who is Maize Jersey and what does he have? This topic header is a cliffhanger.
It appears as though he is sick . . . maybe a stomach virus? Or worse? I just hope he gets well soon.
and we don't need no stinkin' maize jerseys. I was around when the game was first played. Michigan has invented just about everything that is important to college football. Leave the uniform alone. Leave Oregon to their cheesy and pathetic new-jersey-a-day life. We are Michigan. We don't mess with perfection. Never bother me again over such nonsense. Don't you realize I have more important things to do than to take this kind of time out of what's left of my life?
I need a nap.
a good look. Age = 39.
