Maize & Blue Scoreboard: Field Hockey w/ANOTHER upset, 3-1 over #10 Iowa
Michigan Field Hockey (9-4, 4-1 B1G) has rebounded off of their 2OT loss at #12 Louisville last Sunday and pulled off ANOTHER road upset of a top-10 B1G team. This time, it's the mighty Iowa Hawkeyes who have always been a thorn in the side of Michigan historically (21-40 series record).
Michigan took a 3-0 lead with about 12 minutes to play with goals by the star Leslie Smith and two from Sammy Gray. Iowa tacked one on with 6 to play but it was not enough.
Michigan now controls their own destiny in the race for a B1G Championship.
B1G standings coming into tonight-
Place | Team | B1G | Points |
1. | #8 Northwestern | 4-0 | 12 |
2. | #2 Maryland | 3-1 | 9 |
#14 Michigan | 3-1 | 9 | |
4. | #4 Penn State | 2-1 | 6 |
#10 Iowa | 2-1 | 6 | |
#20 Michigan State | 2-2 | 6 | |
7. | #18 Indiana | 0-3 | 0 |
Ohio State | 0-3 | 0 | |
Rutgers | 0-4 | 0 |
Michigan's only loss in B1G play was a 2-0 defeat to #2 Maryland.
Michigan's remaining schedule (using current rankings)
- 10/12 vs #7 Stanford
- 10/17 vs #8 Northwestern
- 10/24 vs #20 Michigan State
- 10/26 at New Hampshire
- 11/2 at Ohio State
That game on Sunday with #7 Stanford was just picked up by BTN Plus.
In sticking with the Michigan-Iowa theme, Michigan Volleyball (7-8, 2-3 B1G) has rebounded with a nice sweep of Iowa at Cliff Keen tonight. They won the sets by the scores of 25-15, 29-27 and 25-19.
The first coach of the Michigan Volleyball program, Sandy Vong, was in attendance today to see the Wolverines win.
(guy in the hat)
Tonight was Michigan's annual pink match. They outlined the Block M at center court and the outside lines in pink.
Next up, Michigan has the steep task of taking on #8 Nebraska on Sunday at Cliff Keen Arena at 1pm. Oddly, the match won't be televised on BTN.
Tomorrow is another big day for Michigan Athletics.
Here's the slate for this weekend-
Saturday-
Football: vs Penn State (7pm/ESPN2)
Men's Soccer: at Rutgers (7pm/BTN Plus)
Women's Soccer: at Indiana (7pm/BTN Plus)
Sunday-
Volleyball: vs #8 Nebraska
Field Hockey: vs #7 Stanford (1pm/BTN Plus)

Balance.
There isn't anything for me to study yet. Every piece of work I do in class is hands-on work in the studio/lab that I can only do there.
I haven't posted much today until a few hours ago. I had a little bit of work from one of my online classes to finish up. On Wednesday, I had to design a 20-page catalog which took about 8 hours and 3 Dr. Peppers. I've been busy this week and haven't posted as much as I usually do in a week.

Just curious, what are you studying?

That new blue field hockey field is paying off!
I hear they are bidding to host the NC in a couple years. That would be cool!

They actually already have it locked up.
B1G Tournament this year, NCAA Final 4 and National Championship next year.

But seriously, that's awesome! The excellence of Michigan athletics goes well beyond what happens on the football field or basketball court.
Keep grinding, ladies.
