They said it is for the impending anniversary of 9/11, but it would be a lot safer for the people walking on, around, or across the closed portion, especially when people have had more time to get "in the mood" for the game.

they would do this last winter at the Big Chill. In fact I thought I remember they tried it out then.
9-11 doesn't have anything to do with it (although it is convenient to say so), It has to do with the safety of people crossing the road in the dark and managing the crowd.

Sucks for the people who park in the Boy Scout lot right there behind the press box. Gonna have to get there earlier than 5 I guess.
