Magnuson Out Through Spring

Submitted by alum96 on

Per mlive tweet, Magnuson is gone due to shoulder injury through spring practice.  Not cool - a very thin position and this is our projected starting LT. Sigh.

Hoke said Erik Magnuson won't be available for spring practice with a shoulder injury. Look for David Dawson to rep at tackle.

Guy has a ton of potential and its a shame he cannot stay healthy.

It sucks that Magnuson won't get reps, but it will only REALLY suck if one or even two players don't emerge as viable alternatives. I don't hate the idea of Dawson at tackle, but I'd rather have him spending his time at gaurd.

that's why they're sending Dawson over there.  This is very ominous to me regarding LTT and Fox.  I guess they feel they are good enough on the interior with Glasgow/Kugler/Miller at C and Bosch/Kalis/Glasgow at G (Glasgow can play C or G).  As long as Glasgow doesn't get injured, they should be fine.  Maybe this means Bars is a decent option at G, who knows.

Doesn't really matter. Hoke got himself another year beyond this coming year when they fired Fat Al. After we win 7 or so games this year they will all talk about Nuss taking some time to find his rythm. Next year is going to be bad and it doesn't even matter. Watch out for 2015 though, but we will have a new QB so we can place our 7 win season on that. Hell we could do this forever...

Maybe this is just me being pessimistic after an atrocious season and bowl performance, but I could see us going 7-5 the next two years. No playmakers outside of Funchess returning, lack of speed to take the top off a defense, smallish or slow LB's, no pass rush whatsoever, OL is still injured/young/inexperienced, DB's struggle to press and give up too many easy 10 yard completions, safety spot is REALLY thin, recruiting has tapered off completely...

Anyone who says the program hasn't lost its momentum hasn't been watching the last few months.

Hoke will be back as long as he gets 6 wins and a bowl game. The OL is going this may happen. I was hoping these kids were getting healthy now the state of the OL is very uncertain. Even with Ness we probably will not win more than 8 games. Oh well, wait til 2015 I guess.

If we couldn't cobble together an at least servicable line last year with two solid senior tackles then I can't even imagine how bad it could be next year.

Yeah I wonder if there is a floor to a college OL that you just can't go beneath.  When you're constantly running plays that require virtually no protection or inside running game, I'm not sure the line getting worse will really matter.

Lol.

That's all I can say anymore.

Just get signing day here already so I can watch the fax machine webcast in peace.

It's actually a 2hour webcast special of signing day hosted by Marcus Ray on MGoBlueTV like last year.

They go to the fax machine once something happens and then show the "war room" with the coaches. This is all going on while they're discussing the new Wolverines.

You know how some people consider the Super Bowl a holiday? Signing day is my holiday. Taking the day off for it as I have the last couple of years.

Give it a rest. You're bagging on me for being a FAN and being concerned and interested in what's coming in.

Not surprising since you are the notorious lover of all things green and white football on here.

Your mantra for Michigan football is "hey, let's all be misreable and wallow until the fall comes".

Sorry, a new day brings new opportunities.

Sorry I like the way Dantonio runs his team. I don't know what to tell you.

And yet there's still people on here that think it's luck and that it will eventually somehow run out and everything will be fixed with our CROOTTINNGGG.

If we win the big ten next yearI'll fully admit I was wrong and a downer, but if we have another mediocre/bad season, not much needs to be said.

Good lord. Junior college transfer, anyone? We'll have roster space. We need able bodies, big time. I'd be on the phone with the best JC offensive lineman right now if I were Hoke. We can't afford another OL tire fire this season.

I'd rather him take on surgery and recovery with a full 8 months to recover.  Rather than have a McGary-like issue where he tried to rehab and play thru it and ended up forcing him out early-season.  FWIW I'm not trying to neg McGary at all.  I believe he made what was the best decision given the information and medical advice he had at the time.   Just saying its almost better for a key player to get on a predetermined timetable (invoking my lack of medical knowledge here, and even specific knowlege of his particular injury...but just along the lines of an ACL where there's a well-established timetable, post-surgery)

Something else occurred to me over the winter.  Schembechler never had to rebuild the team. [a third left since they were so soft]  Moeller never had to rebuild the team.  Carr never had to rebuild the team.  Rod *elected* to rebuild the team and that wasn't good in hindsight, so we now have hired Hoke to actually rebuild the team.  Something that literally hasn't happened in Ann Arbor in like 35 years (or more).  I know everyone thinks magic happens overnight but the guy deserves time to work.  Its not going to be fast enough for anyone's liking, but also bear witness to the fact Its Not Been Like This Ever Before.

Everyone wants to bring up the 11-2 year but you had a cast of good players who they got to work on both sides of the ball.

Its going to happen.  Flashes of brilliance are out there.  The players are going to develop just like Stauskus did and come back stronger (etc).  I would like to petition for no "timetable" that I read about here so often.  "Hoke gets 1 more year <sigh>"  Let it grow.  No mathematical constraints.  If its apparent the talent stream is maxed out or the team gets mentally beaten and gives up then I'm going to get my pitchfork too.  But until that happens, its a Daily Task.  Grind it out.  Incremental progress.  Build for the future.  Use all the weapons/resources/creativity that's out there to win games.

Not good. Our guys need every single rep they can get at this point. Although I like Dawson at tackle. He doesn't have an ideal build, but I really liked his pass sets as a high school kid. I think he could hack it, and I certainly like the idea of another body out there giving us some versatility.
