Madaris visit to UM was cancelled

according to Scout. Looks like it happened a few days ago. He'll likely end up at MSU or Cincy.

Also, his status is that he's suspended...so Hoke really doesn't have to do anything.

I think people think his status is "he's redshirtted" meaning had this not happened, he'd be eligible to play right now. That's not the case, he was suspended for the year, despite with ND/Michael Floyd lovers want to tell you. He just had an opportunity to use a redshirt to save a year. But if he was a RS Senior, and got suspended for the year, there is no evidence that he would've been done playing football at Michigan.

I'm not sure Hoke is going to really speak on this until the Fall, I don't see why he would have to do so. Unless Stonum does something that makes it absolutely a no brainer...Hoke has the luxury of taking as long as he wants to come up with a decision. So he's suspended. Period.

If Webb has a correct gauge on things, it would be wrong to assume that. Stonum is probably gone.

Also, Madaris has moved his visit to Kentucky up to this weekend, so, any hope of UM getting back in on him is now very likely gone (not that we were going to, anyway).

Just because we're no longer taking a WR doesn't mean Stonum is back. That logic doesn't work.

  1. We only have so many spots left...if we've said those spots go to a TE, RB, OL, and CB then losing Stonum doesn't change that, we don't get a 29th scholarship.
  2. We're not going to rely on freshman WRs...so whether Stonum is here or not, unless it's a Stephon Diggs or Dorial Green-Beckham, all 3 aren't going to step in a play right away. So immediate impact isn't a factor.
  3. We still have plenty of WRs with experience: Roy Roundtree, Drew Dileo, Jeremy Jackson, Jeremy Gallon are all back. Then you have Jerald Robinson who has been doing very well in practice all year. Toss in Darboh and Chesson and you've got guys there. It's just a matter of production. To me, Madaris isn't a lock to come in and start over all those guys, so adding him is just another body if you're talking about production for NEXT year (which you have to be because we're talking about replacing Stonum).
  4. It's probably best not to stockpile WRs in one class, this way next year we can get 2-3 big names in Morris' class.

with experience.  If Stonum is out we have Roundtree, Gallon and Dileo with experience and Robinson, Jackson with virtually no experience and 2 true freshman.  WR might be our leanest postion even with Stonum.

Too bad we didn't pull in any of the elite WR's we were in on last year (i.e. Arnett, Stills, Watkins, Flowers, etc.

I think State was his leader (I think Cincy is now, see below) but a visit could have changed that.  But with Michigan already getting their WR positions filled it makes sense for the coaches to back away.  So at the end of the day I don't think either side is too upset about this.

Personally, I probably wouldn't use one of our last four spots on a receiver unless he was genuinely one of the top three or four in the country. I just don't think we have the need as much as some people do. I'd address the DBs and O-line first.

I also can't see a huge need at MSU. Would seem like they are well set with the guys they have already signed, but I think that they have more free spots than we do, so they have better room to take him than we do.

I'd think we backed off, but I'd love to know the real answer.

I think MSU was his leader even before he cancelled his visit to Michigan.  But MSU just got Arnett and they have a lot of youth at WR.  I think UC is in front now because of it, though I don't really know what their depth at WR looks like as of now.

Robbins was a punter, from Kansas.  He boomed an 82 yarder in the 86 Hawaii game that helped break the game open.  He also had a nice run off an uncalled punt fake, but I can't recall who it was against.

Bo loved Robbins and even said during the Football Bust that he wished he would have used him at another position, like WR or TE.

An OL (Garnett), TE (Grant or some other top guy), and DB (Reeves).  Any other additions are long shots right now.  Of course Hoke and Co. might pull off a signing day surprise.

Ever since Chessson committed, Webb had been saying that the Madaris visit would never happen. UM hasn't even been in contact with the kid since the week before Christmas. It only stands to reason that the kid would cancel his visit.
