M Volleyball bows out to Texas 3-2 in Final Four

Submitted by Philip A. Duey on

The Wolverines fell to Texas 11-24, 25-21, 25-23, 12-25, 11-15.

A fantastic run for a fantastic squad! Despite coming in unranked and finishing 6th in the Big Ten, Michigan was able to scrap against the best of the best, but came up just short of the Championship game.

Michigan loses only fifth-year senior Claire McElhenny, so they are already poised to do huge things next year! Go Blue!!!

This team made history. First time they made the Final 4.

Can't wait to see the banner at Keen next season. Did a quick sketch of what it will probably look like-

Awesome season. Congratulations to the ladies on being the first Michigan volleyball team to make the final four.

I also really liked the Team 40 jacket that I saw there. It would be cool to see all of our sports adopt that, I think.

I remember when Michigan Volleyball was a niche sport on campus with a student section that grew from about five people in September to about fifty people at the end of the year.  When t-shirts were an extravagence the AD had to think twice about.  And when making it to the Sweet 16 to travel to State College and get trounced by PSU was something to celebrate.

The job Coach Rosen has done with this team, and with this program, is to be celebrated perhaps more than any other sport on campus.  I can't believe the strides this team has made over the past decade, and I was proud to be able to sit in a bar far from Ann Arbor and ask the bartender to turn on a -women's volleyball game- so I could watch Michigan play.

Well done, ladies, and I hope next year is even better!
