M Softball Hitting Woes Continue; Lose 5-1

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

The Michigan Softball team continued to struggle with the bats today against Illinois State.  We lost 5-1.  We only had 2 hits; one home run by Ashley.  The other was from Colie.

Sara was in the circle and took the loss.  She struggled a little by giving up 2 walks, an IF single then a throwing error.  All this led to a 5-run 5th inning for Illinois State.  Haylie came on in relief and did a good job.

Overall, we need to get the bats swinging.  I know this sounds easy but Coach is pulling her hair out right now.  This is the most frustrating part of being a coach.  We are NOT facing dominate pitching so we should be T-ing off, right?  Well it just doesnt work that way.  Im sure the girls are just as frustarted as Coach is.  This is something that they have to work through.

Ladies, we are behind you 100%.  Dont give up and continue to take extra BP.  Stay focused and believe in yourselves.  You are all great ball players and you will pull through this.  Trust in yourselves and trust your coaches.  Dont lose the mental part of the game.

But I do wish you had better news.  IMO, although slumps can be fixed during the season, I believe these issues around hitting and errors will likeluy need the off season before they are fully addressed.

Whatever, happens, I am certain that our coaches will figure out how to maximize this team's potential. Go Blue!!

other team has:  Coach Hutch.  She is the master and will figure this out.

Things like this happens from time to time.  There is no "Magic" cure for hitting slumps.  I am surprised just about everyone is hitting lower this year as compared to last year.  It is almost like the team has the flu.  But thats not it because this has been going on for 2 weeks now.

It will get better.

Would you mind using last names for those of us not on a first name basis with the softball team?  Saying Sara and Lauren and Ashley is not all that helpful, unless they have a unique first name like Denard.
