M Soccer vs UCF - NCAA Tournament 2nd Round

Submitted by jgunnip on

No thread up.

M down 1-0 early to a 9th minute goal. Hamoody Saad picked up a yellow card within the first five minutes. 22mins to go in the 1st half now.

Supposedly the A.D. paid admission for the first 200 students so hopefully there's a good crowd on hand. Nice weather in A2 today for the game.

In reply to the OP, Coach Burns talked the Athletic Dept. into 400 student tickets. Coach said we met the quota in helping the team to a win!  One of those students was none other than THE Lloyd Brady.  He know's his legend and is a great kid.  Also in attendance were Carl Hagelin and several field hockey players.  Great to see athletes supporting other athletes.

Ohio State has also advanced to the final 16 with a 2-1 win over Providence in Columbus.

Other Big Ten teams in action include Penn State who is tied 1-1 with Old Dominion. Indiana hosts Tulsa later today.

The winner of our match faces the winner of the 7th seed South Carolina-Duke matchup. That match is scoreless early in the 2nd.

Unfortunately, South Carolina defeated Duke, 1-0 in overtime.  #10 Michigan will play at #7 South Carolina next Sunday in the Round of 16.

Great win for UM. It was my first trip to a soccer game, and it was a great. Although it toook overtime UM thoroughly dominated most of the game. The shots on goal were heavily slanted towards UM the whole game.

And I managed to get a Lloyd Brady sighting of my own...

I was near him during a hockey game and people all around were yelling his name when he walked over. I think some of them knew him, but he was like a celebrity so he's gotta know why.

And when he came up on the scoreboard everyone around me at the Big House was yelling his name. This kid is a celebrity, it's insane. And awesome.

Looks like his bangs are shorter. What ever happened to the girl resting her elbow in thin air?

the students.  They were making noise the whole game -- it was a GREAT atmosphere.  It was also an entertaining game and a GREAT win.

Overall, I'd give my soccer gameday experience five GREATS out of five.

The crowd was small but extremely loud the entire game.  The experience was great.  On to the next round for the Men's soccer team.

Congrats to the team and the coaches!

We are proud of you.

we got there halfway through the first half (who knew the soccer stadium was such a long walk from campus!?) and they were just putting up "standing room only" signs on the ticket booth. we managed to find seats across from the students, but a lot of people didn't and ended up standing along the south edge of the field. they never announced an official attendance number, but it had to be a capacity crowd.

Third round matchups to be played on Sunday November 28, in bracket order:

#16 Ohio State at #1 Louisville

Dartmouth at #8 UCLA

#12 William & Mary at #5 Southern Methodist

Michigan State at #4 North Carolina

#14 Indiana at #3 Akron

Brown at #6 California

#15 Penn State at #2 Maryland

#10 Michigan at #7 South Carolina

There are 5 Big Ten teams in the final 16; all 5 are on the road this round.  If Michigan wins on Sunday, they will either play at #2 Maryland or host #15 Penn State.

Our bracket was considered by many before the tournament to be the toughest of the four and included defending champ Virginia who fell to Old Dominion in the first round.

We've been on a roll lately and I think have a good shot and winning the game down in Columbia. This has arguably been the best season in our short history so hopefuly the boys can continue this run.

MSU may of the result of the tournament so far with the upset at previously undefeated Butler today.
