M SB smokes ohio in columbus

The Michigan Softball Team traveled to ohio this weekend for a Friday Night / Saturday Double series against ohio.  ohio is play some very good ball but we were just too much for them.  We easily defeated our rivals by a score of 9-2

We were helped by a big 5-run third inning.  Ashley Lane and Lauren Sweet came up big in that inning and the game.  Ashley went 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored from the #4 hole.  Ashley hit a 3 run dinger in the 4th.  While Lauren went 1 for 3 with 3 RBIs and a run scored from a 3 run dinger in the 3rd.

Sara Driesenga hit 2 home runs, a first for her in her early career.  Her first came in the 1st inning with bases empty.  It was a beautiful solo shot that just stayed fair down the RF line.  It looked like it hooked foul but just cleared the foul pole.  Her second came in the 7th inning and was to left field.  There was no question on this one.  Sara finished 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

Haylie Wagner dominated the suckeyes today except for one back pitch to star play Alicia herron who took her long and hard with a runner on.  She finished with 2 ER off 6 hits.  She had 9, count 'em, 9 strikeouts with only 1 HBP, out of 27 batters faced.  What amaizing control today for Haylie.

Now this is the type of game that we needed for weeks: a tough opponent that we dominate.  Coach has to be happy tonight.  The only problem is they have to stay in suckeye land tonight for towmorrow's double header.

Surprisingly Driesenga has been one of the most productive hitters. By my count she has the highest batting average and on base % on the team although she only has about a third as many at bats as the regulars have. Is she moving into the lineup full time now?

What do all the ladies write in the dirt every time they step out of the box? Also how did Ritter announce that game? It must be hard to contain the excitement of ass whipping Ohio!

I found it so funny when the whole crowd there was going insane and the ohio dugout was loud, dancing around and acting like they won the game when they took an early lead in the 1st inning.

And then when Michigan brought them back to reality, the stands emptied and the ohio dugout was silent and had sad faces.

I loved it.

Ashley Lane had a great at bat when she hit her 3 run homer.  She kept fouling off tough pitches until she got the one she drove out of the park.
