M Lax hangs on to beat Vermont, 15-13

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

In the Michigan Stadium opener in front of a small announced crowd of 565 (which had to include everyone within the area of the stadium) saw Michigan hang for their second win a row.

The game was played in what appeared to be a blizzard. The snow was falling so hard that it made tracking the ball on the BTN+ broadcast difficult.

Kyle Jackson had an unbelievable behind-the-back goal, which was SC Top 10 worthy imo. He has had a hat trick in every game this season.

Gerald Logan was great and he sure needed to be as it was not a good game defensively and there were turnovers galore. Thankfully you could say the same about Vermont (2-3).

Vermont shot itself in the foot all game long with idiotic fouls, giving Michigan six man-up chances. Michigan converted on four of them.

The stats.

Look at the faceoff violations.

Stat U-M UVM
Shots 47 47
Ground Balls 27 24
Faceoffs 17-32 15-32
Faceoff Violations 3 9(!)
Clears 18-18 15-16
Turnovers 11 10
Saves 17 11
Man-Up Opps 4-6 0-3

Michigan is now 3-2 and will face #7 Brown on the road next Saturday at 1pm.

There were not actually 9 faceoff violations for Vermont.  That's wrong.  I'm thinking maybe 2 in the first half and 3 or 4 in the second?

I thought the defense played pretty well against a very good offense except for a couple of mistakes late or when O mids got trapped.  Man down was perfect.  Vermont makes you pay in transition.  That's how they scored a lot of their goals.

Was really happy with how the team played on offense. A lot of new players scored and good production from the midfield. Face offs were also a strength, as was man-up. A few mental mistakes let Vermont score a few at the end and make it closer than it had to be. But definitely a good step forward all around this week.
