M Lacrosse nearly upsets #16 Cornell, falling 15-14 in OT

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

This team is something else. Two wins in the last two seasons combined for the program.

Team 3 has already matched that total in one season. They nearly knock off a program that is in the Top-10 among lacrosse programs in all-time victories.

Kyle Jackson tied the Michigan single game record for goals with 4, Peter Kraus had a hat trick.

Robbie Zonino made crazy saves. You know, the freshman goalie that wasn't going to see any playing time due to All-Rookie Gerald Logan in front of him. When Logan was injured, everyone, including myself, groaned. Had Zonino not had the game he did, no way this game is even close to an OT game.

An amazing game. Michigan travels next to high point, a team they nearly beat last season. One has to think that if Michigan did THIS against a ranked team, beat the tar out of a team they were expected to and stole one against detroit, Michigan SHOULD win that game.

Michigan is down 8-9 at half. Michigan has cornell scared. Michigan has the thought that they can play with these guys.

Also: Michigan is 4-1 all-time when scoring double digit goals. If Michigan keeps their pace at 4 GPP....we'll see.

The broadcasters are so excited that they are cutting each other off. I wish I could see video of this! What a milestone moment for the team to take a top-20 team to OT!

Cornell looks to be quite a bit down this year, but not so down that they should only beat us by one in overtime unless we've made a big leap forward.  I want to see this team go to the ECAC tournament and I think they can definitely do it.  Two weeks from now could be the biggest game of the season in that regard.

Holy smokes -- so close to a signature win.  Great job by the team -- things seem to be pulling together way more rapidly than I expected after getting thrashed by PSU.

Cornell is certainly down, but there is no question that their talent level is still high. Being able to stay within striking distance the whole game, and gave a chance to win is a great experience for this team. Also, please note that the lopsided loss to Hopkins last week doesn't look nearly as bad considering the way the hop dismantled Princeton today.

Damn that would've been a great W!  I hope this team is starting to turn the corner.  Hopefully they can take care of business on their spring break trip, beat up High Point and Furman and come back 4-3.    Maybe they can pull some other upsets this year and sneak into the EcAC tournament ! Go Blue!

...and yet so far.

Zonino coming into his own. I can see him matching Logan's heroics from last year.

Let's keep that momentum going!
