Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Wasn't up to post a recap of the game last night, but Michigan lost to first year program high point 13-10 in lacrosse on the road. Michigan's 10 goals are the second-most in program history scored in a game.

GK Gerald Logan, who leads the ECAC and NCAA in saves stopped 16 shots last night in the loss.

Freshman Mike Hernandez tied a program record with 4 goals while freshman Kyle Jackson had 4 assists which also tied a program record.

An overall strong showing by Michigan after the blunder against army.

Its frustrating the amount of time it will take for the upstart program to truely start competing, but it is reassuring to see so many freshman (and underclassmen) are key contributors. Hopefully by the time MD & Rutgers join and we have a B1G lacrosse schedule we will be able to be competative (current key producers will be seniors & juniors so we can hope)

Yeah, these guys are young but they're pretty talented.  It's just tough when they're all so young.  Not only that, one of our best players, Will Meter was out last night and was replaced by Peter Kraus.  Meter is only a sophomore, but started every game as a freshman (and all so far this year) so he was actually one of our most experienced players.  Kraus is a good frosh, but he didn't have the impact that Meter usually does at that spot.

We need work on our clears and grabbing ground balls, those were the two areas we were killed last night by a team playing in its 7th game as a D1 program.  Hopefully, these young guys will grow up a lot over the course of the season and we can pull out a W somewhere along the line.

While High Point might’ve been Michigan’s best chance at an early lacrosse win in 2013, the keys to this season should be how well the sophomores and freshmen improve as the season goes on, how well they can weather the storm of a winless season and whether they might be able to get that lone win of 2013 against currently winless Detroit on April 17.

For the most part, unlike the upperclassmen, the freshmen and sophomores are recruited Division One caliber players. With improvement, some luck with recruiting for next season and perhaps gaining a couple of strong D-1 transfers who have some eligibility left and might want a Masters degree from Michigan, a few wins in 2014 won’t be out of the question.

Techincally, only our frosh are recruited D1 caliber players.  The guys who are sophomores now all committed to play for a club team, and it was announced we'd be D1 after the class was complete.  Some of them may have known D1 lacrosse was on the horizon, but with how early lacrosse recruiting works (similar to hockey or basketball) those guys were not passing up D1 schools to pick Michigan, they were just the best club players in the country.  The only real "prospect" in that class was Emil Weiss who transfered after his frosh season and the kid from GR whose name escapes me but who never played a game because of injury.

So realistically, only our frosh are D1 recruits, and that's why they make up so much of our PT.
