M Lacrosse falls 17-8 at #4 johns hopkins
Michigan fought very hard today against the #4 team in the country and pretty much the greatest program in the sport. It looked ugly for a bit but Michigan pulled back in.
We have a great GK in Gerald Logan. Dude is playing out there with a damn near separated shoulder.
Michigan will get army next Saturday at 1pm at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, FL in the Orange Bowl Lacrosse Classic. Thanks Stephen M. Ross!

Has any lacrosse team ever scored 100 goals in a game before?
February 23rd, 2013 at 12:16 PM ^
Michigan's current largest margin of defeat is 14 which was against north carolina last year (L 5-19).
JHU could very well score in the 20s.

If you want to watch a great matchup #1 loyola is hosting #2 maryland today at 1:30 and i'm pretty sure its on nbc sports or something like that. And yes the state of Maryland does have 3 of the top 5 in the country right now, lacrosse is kind of a big deal there.
February 23rd, 2013 at 12:46 PM ^
One of the pilots I work with is a big Maryland fan I don't know much about Lax but he seems to think Maryland will just own the BiG in lax. Any truth to this? And is JHU in the Big Ten LAX?
February 23rd, 2013 at 12:50 PM ^
Yeah, he's pretty much right. Their only competition as it stands right now would be PSU.
Michigan is a first year program. You have to give them time and I mean at least 5-6 years before they're seriously pushing for a tournament bid. It's a tough thing to build a program nowadays.
ohio is ohio. They're mediocre. They're overrated at #19 IMO. Michigan nearly beat them at Battle at The Big House last year. Luckily, we get them at The Battle II again this year.
PSU just beat denver and is Top-10 now. Michigan lost to them 11-6.
Rutgers sucks. If the B1G does add UNC and UVA though and the rumors are true, and JHU does in fact accept the affiliate invite to the B1G. The conference would go from unknown to the best in the country overnight.

Thanks it's nice to be able to learn from someone else that's a Michigan fan. He makes crazy claims sometimes so I don't know the truth to them sometimes. Such as Maryland would be the second best team in basketball in the Big Ten. I know it would take several several years for Michigan to get to decent status. Thanks for the insight and answering my stupid questions.
February 23rd, 2013 at 4:40 PM ^
Unless the B1G adds a few more lax powers, Maryland will own the B1G in lacrosse for a while. Penn State is looking really good since Tambroni took over, and I would expect consistency there, but Maryland would be the current class of the B1G.
Hopkins to B1G is purely rumor. You'll notice that it did not even get mentioned by today's announcing crew. (I would love it!)

So what you're saying is that this isn't going exactly according to plan...
February 23rd, 2013 at 1:25 PM ^
Its hard to do anything if you can't win faceoffs. Possesion is so huge in lacrosse, hard to really complain when Michigan isnt on offense.
February 23rd, 2013 at 1:25 PM ^
What is the prototypical size for a faceoff man? I saw that Brad Lott was very highly rated at the position in the last class, but I was surprised how small he was.
February 23rd, 2013 at 4:42 PM ^
in the thread, but: Quickness, leverage, and technique are the important characteristics. Many are compact but powerful. Think wrestling.
However, quite a few "old-school" middles are still really good at face-offs. Rangy, 6'3" guys.
February 23rd, 2013 at 1:26 PM ^
They score. 1-7 with 3 left in the first.
February 23rd, 2013 at 1:28 PM ^

We should be pretty bad for a few years because right now we only have one class of D1 recruits on our team.

Key stat: Michigan is 0-10 on face-offs.

SCOORRREEESSS!! David Joseph with his first career goal! Score is 3-9.
February 23rd, 2013 at 1:43 PM ^
Hopkins takes it right back and scores. 3-10.
February 23rd, 2013 at 1:44 PM ^
I know nothing about Lacrosse, and I haven't been keeping track of this game besides this thread on occasion, but it sounds like we're performing about as expected. Hopefully we can keep improving as the recruiting gets up to par with the rest of D1!
February 23rd, 2013 at 1:50 PM ^
Hopkins again. 3-11 with less than 4 to go before half.

Gerald Logan is a warrior. Stories will be told someday to children who are watching Team 133 of lacrosse, that team 2's GK battled through a wicked shoulder injury at the most difficult position in lax.
February 23rd, 2013 at 2:03 PM ^
Here's a little score update: #2 maryland is leading #1 loyola 4-1.
This is the most anticipated game in lacrosse history. UMD vs LU, instate rivals in the biggest lacrosse state and it's #1 vs #2. Game is on NBC sports network for those interested.
