it might not count...Lynch seemed to kick it from the side of the net...it may have went off the goalie or an OSU defenseman....Haglin might also have hit it over the line

Edit: no goal...it seemed like a good call, lynch used a kicking motion and was the last M player to touch it and you cannot bank it in off the goalie with a kicking motion...

I understand the rule and it was probably the right call as a no goal with the rule, but I cant say I agree. i mean you can have an own goal in any sport and the michigan skate that got the kick was behind the end line and then the osu goalie knocked it in with his own glove. I think there should be some kind of change to that rule. The michigan player was just trying to get it to the net and had the osu goalie not touched it Haglin would have taped it in

If the OSU player or goalie had control of the puck. If the goalie had control and then it went in, it would be considered a goal. However, since it just banked in off him, it is still in the action of the kicking player...therefore the kicking motion is what put it in. Thats why is a shot deflects off a player's skate without the kicking motion, it counts because it was off the shot of the player and just got deflected, not under control and kicked in

If that makes sense good, if not im not really surprised

It makes perfect sense and Im saying with the rules in place its the right call. I just dont agree with the rule in this case. From my eyes anyway it didnt appear to be a deflection to me off the osu goalie, but instead the puck trickling into the crease and the goalie attempting to cover the puck and ended up knocking it in himself while trying to cover.

on how you define "kicking", it's a good call, I thought he twisted his foot to angle it to angle the puck in.  I think that if that doesn't count, you can't really count any goals off the skate unless they're completely stationary and the whole they're on ice thing pretty much precludes that.

That being said, that's how it would have been called in the NHL too, so I can't really complain, other than I think a distinct kick means a distinct kick and that the rule should be either they all count off a skate or none count off a skate.

What's going to make Red really unahppy is the conference the ref's had between the replay and the call.  That's not normal and I don't know if I've ever seen that done where it didn't result in a call that I STRONGLY disagreed with, before today.

Actually most of the time you have a chance to kick it and actually put it in, you're within 3 feet of the goal.  When you're there there's usually a d-man beating the shit out of you or at least getting your hands up and stick off the ice.

I agree with the rule, hard to really get much better beyond calling back goals with a kicking motion but allowing accidental pucks off the foot.

Im pleasantly surprised with Scooters play this year. He has not only been very physical but putting in tough and skilled goals. Looks like he has been huge strides this offseason. Could really benefit us this year

The last few games it seems we've done a little better. But the games at Yost it certainly didn't seem like we were on the powerplay when we had one. Hopefully we can pick it up...

We dominated the first we just need to stick one in the back of the net now....I like how they didnt properly fix the net too until the end of our PP

Realized this is a much better place to discuss:

Saw that coming. 1) the commentators talking about how Michigan was dominating 2) whenever we're dominating but not getting the puck in, they always get a goal on their first try 3) THAT WAS A HIGH STICK IN THE NEUTRAL ZONE AND I KNEW IT WOULD RESULT IN A GOAL. FUCK IT.

I hate these commentators SO MUCH. "Wow the buckeye penalty kill is soo good!" because they can't get the puck out and their goalie made a few lucky saves? Ok then.

"Michigan is dominating hurr" wow thanks, they just scored on us.
