M Golf beats MSU in B1G Tournament
In continuing with the theme, another Michigan team beat MSU today.
The Men's Golf team down in Palm Coast, Florida at the B1G Match Play Tournament.
Neither team had this tournament go the way they'd like. Both are fairly solid teams, with MSU receiving votes in the rankings and Michigan very close to and having some impressive wins this year over highly ranked teams an a tournament title down in Dayton.
This was the first event of the Spring portion of the season for both teams.
Michigan, the 2 seed, was knocked out in the first round on Friday by 7 Minnesota in a match that was a 3-3 tie, but we lost in a tiebreaker. Then we lost in the consolation semifinals to 11 seeded Rutgers this morning, 4-2.
Match play can be a crapshoot.
MSU was seeded 1 in this tournament, and they also went 0-2 in their first two (tiebreaker loss to 8 Iowa and a loss to 4 Purdue) finding themselves in this afternoon's 7th place match.
Michigan would snap out of the rust and win this match, finishing the weekend on a high note.
Kyle Mueller, Tom Swanson, Nick Carlson and Bryce Evon all won their matches to give Michigan the 4-2 win.
Michigan holds an overall total record of 50-14-1 on the season and will head West in two weeks for the Southwestern Jones Invitational in Westlake Village, CA.

middle of winter is golf season for college?
seems silly for a university to spend money shipping students all over the country because it is not possible for msu, purdue, michigan, etc to play golf near their own campus in february.
i guess they have to squander the football money on something other than assistant football coaches salaries.
