M fans...Are we logical???

Submitted by Ziff72 on

As we depart MGOBLOG for the holidays to spend time with relatives and old friends and acquaintences, you know you'll be sucked into Michigan Football talk against your best wishes...Nice team...RR's a bum....You guys stink... and all the other idiotic things relatives like to say so you will be forced as much as you hate to to defend Mich against the "uninformed" so called fans who know nothing of what is going on and will continue to spew.

It got me to thinking of them today when I heard Warren confirmed he was leaving and I felt my inner Uncle Harry say "So you lost your 2 best players to the 1st and 2nd Rd. of the NFL draft and your defense is going to get better next year?" Um....Yeah??

I think I truly believe that, but get your arguments ready for the holidays and no hitting.

Have a Good Holiday!!

As we all know at this point anyone who throws a "Fire RR!" &/or "RR is a bum" your way can probably only understand a 15 second sound byte type argument, so here's a defense outline for everyone who needs to back the program over the holidays:

1) Freshman QB's
2) Walk-on Safeties
3) Higher than usual program attrition
4) Adjustment to a new offensive system
5) Lackluster recruiting at the end of LC's era

Make sure you hit all the points and come up with a clever phrase to describe the situation as a while. "Perfect Storm" will work in a pinch, but try to be a little more creative here (go for that WOW! factor). Good luck & Happy Holidays!

1. OSU went to a BCS bowl with a freshman QB last year. Rutgers and Wyoming both won bowl games this weekend with freshman QB's. Chad Henne went to the Rose Bowl as a freshman QB. It's not ideal, but certainly not impossible.

2. Walk on safeties? I'll give you this one a little bit but why aren't the recruited safeties progressing?

3. All programs have attrition. Besides, who's fault is it anyway?

4. Penn State went from Pro-Style (Morelli) to HD Spread (Clark) and made it to the Rose Bowl that same year. OSU went from Zwick-to-Smith-to-Boekman-to-Pryor, each QB running a different style of offense varying from Pro-Style to Spread, and won five consecutive Big Ten titles. It's not rocket science.

5. Carr's last four recruting classes never had less than double digit four and five star players and never finished outside of Scout's Top Ten.

I'm not saying......I'm just saying. This year will be the key. No more excuses. No more "perfect storm" theories. It's time to beat the teams you should. I'm talking to you Sparty and Purdue and Illinois.

Anyone who starts off their argument about why Michigan has had problems in 2008 or 2009 with "Well Rich Rod sucks and should be fired" normally gets a "huh" or "you aren't serious right" from me, and then I tell them to do some research into the program, understand the reason for the dip, and get back to me.

I never hear from these people again. I suggest using the JG route to shutting up anti-Michigan people: forcing them to consume knowledge. On their own.

My wife's side of the family are almost all MSU fans (including her father who went to MSU), but I have a feeling that they will avoid giving me any grief.

3-13 in Big Ten games and only 2 wins in 24 games against teams that finished the season with winning records. That's not good and has to get better fast!
