M Basketball and Hockey in Midtown NYC

Submitted by ChalmersE on
I posted this in the TV viewing meta thread and got no response. I'm at SiriusXM studios at 49th and 6th, but will be able to duck out around noon for a couple of hours. Is there a Michigan viewing spot nearby? And, will it have the hockey game later?

I have a good little Saturday planned. The wife and I are going to Home Depot. Look at some blinds and siding. Then maybe Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I don't know. I don't know if we will have enough time.

yeah i get that. I also created a thread asking about what bench Michigan would be sitting on for their hockey game because I'd like to purchase tickets for the side of the ice where we would be shooting on for two periods, and there was a similar trolling/garbage response.

what would you think if you were considering posting on the board for the first time to ask a meaningful question? these garbage/sarcastic responses aren't helpful (yes, the OP could have looked at the sticky or  a mod could have stepped in, replied, and posted a link to the sticky -> locked the thread)

Alumni watch places for both basketball and hockey are near Union Square, but Brother Jimmy's BBQ is closer to the subway, which on the yellow line (R,N & Q) is only two stops from Time Square on the express (they change tracks on the weekend, so whichever is on the express track) and only 2 more stops on the local.  Take whichever train comes first.  Get out on the uptown end of the train to the 16th St. exit, quick walk through Union Square Park and it's only half a block further East on 16th St.  Prof. Thom's is nearby, but a longer walk if you're in a hurry.

2012/2013 U-M NYC OFFICIAL BASKETBALL & HOCKEY WATCH LOCATIONS

Brother Jimmy’s Union Square / 116 E.16th Street (btwn Irving & Park)

Professor Thom’s /219 2nd Avenue (btwn 13th and 14th st)

Otherwise, most bars near wherever you are will have tourney basketball and you can probably request a TV if the game isn't showing.  Hockey I'm not so sure.  Too many teams playing basketball.

EDIT:  Just noticed you gave your location.  From 49th & 6th, walk one block West to 49th St. & 7th Ave. and take the yellow trains downtown to Union Square.  (MTA Trip Planner estimates 16 mins. at that time.)  There's also another subway line w/ an entrance probably right below your building, but it requires a transfer which would add time: taking the orange trains (F, B or D) to 34th St. and a change to the yellow trains.
