M - 8 MSU - 0 (FB recruiting)

Submitted by Maize and Blue… on

Unbelievable.  MSU coming off of their dream season and we're 8-0 (9-0 if you count Shane)against them in head to head recruiting.  Lets keep the streak going and right things this fall in Spartan Stadium.  Next up.....

While I'll miss the spread O, Hoke and company seem to be doing all the right things.  Keep it going in recruiting and hopefully on the field this fall.

Are there really this many solid contributers in Michigan this year?  Per Brian's posts on in-state talent last week, it seems there end up being only about 5 quality D1 players per year.

I don't understand why people always say we shouldn't focus on beating msu right now.  I'm sorry, but if you forgot they beat us the last 3 years and have been a better team as of late.  It pains me to say it, but let's be honest, we aren't on Ohio's level as of now, we may be soon, but not right now.  Historically and going back even a few years absolutely, but right now I can't have a straight face and tell you that the programs have equal strength.  Now, they may be momentarily after the ncaa sanctions and michigan's reestablishment, but right now, beating msu should be the first task.  Beat msu and the state of michigan turns completely blue again, it's that simple.

Now, I'm not saying to work on beating ohio, but you can't claim that we shouldn't focus on msu, etc.  If i'm not mistaken, we have a pretty long losing streak against them as well, we need to focus on beating both streaks.

Looking over the list of players that have received offers from both schools, it looks like we can definitely keep this going:

Players where I would say we're in good postion to get:  Sheldon Day, Jordan Diamond, Terry Richardson, Chris Wormley

Should be a good battle between UM and MSU:   Aaron Burbridge, Ondre Pipkins

Players where we've got a fair-reasonable shot to get:   JJ Denman, Kyle Dodson, Jaleel Johnson, Armani Reeves,

There are others of course, but these were the ones that stood out to me.  I'm not sure if State is leading on anyone that we would like to get, but from this vantage point, I think we're in good shape to keep the wins going.

The best part is, The Great Recruiting Beatdown of 2012 is not over yet.  I don't know of a single target of ours that is considered an MSU lean.  The best they've got is Burbridge, who is a 50/50 by all accounts.  The rest of our targets are considered leans for Michigan, or they won't end up at either school.

Every time we compare ourselves to State, State wins. They think they are Michigan rivals, and if we spend all this time comparing our program to their's we might as well admit Michigan State are our equals and that we actually care about them.

It's okay to compare ourselves to State, as long as the standard that we look for is domination.  What was disappointing about the last few classes is the fact that MSU, by-and-large, pulled even with us.

And for what it's worth, this recruiting class is looking pretty good when compared to our conference peers too.

it's turning ugly already.  This was on a thread titled "How is Hoke doing it?"

"Since Hoke replaced RR every single recruit with UM and MSU offers have commited to UM!!! Yes, I know MSU will be ok, and I feel will sign a good class but 10-0 head to head is not realistic. One has to wonder if Hoke and co. may be stretching the rules a bit? "

Didn't take long to go there "stretching the rules a bit?"

Not only have you lost three in a row, but you're posting this statement in a thread made to brag about how awesome you're going to be. This is the height of irony. Not that I would expect a Michigan fan to be well versed in what constitutes hypocrisy.

It really doesn't matter if we as fans obsess about MSU or anyone else, because (I hate to bring this up but someone has to) well, the truth is that the players actually play the games, and the coaches actually coach the games.

So we could decide to obsess over beating, oh, Eastern Michigan. And nothing would happen to the football team.

The only thing that I have done as a fan that has been scientifically proven to affect the team was misplacing my game day lucky socks for the past 3 years. That was bad. I think they must have been defensive lucky socks.

But I've since found them.

Our 2007 and 08 classes were substantially better on paper but they are 3-0 against us and have multiple potential pros as well as two first rounders .

I just can't stand the idiots that think recruiting rankings mean the return of Michigan. While Msu has had lower ranked classes for ever and still will be undefeated against michigan and will produce more pros in a 40th ranked class than a top ten michigan class.
