Lynn Henning recklessly claims Rich will be fired Monday

Submitted by M-Wolverine on
Apparently heading to MSU's press conference up he did a 20 minute interview with Tim Staudt on air over WVFN radio. They started off talking about his front page article in the Det News Today about his interview and he said Rich Rod would be fired Monday.

This is horrible even before the results of the OSU game come in. What if we win? What then? If he's wrong, he should be the one fired on Monday.

who knows someone, who saw a bio student in the library studying reincarnation and cloning.  Brandon is reviewing the records of all deceased coaches to determine which coach to bring back from the dead.  Now the lab is closed on Thursday so Brandon will have to make his decision on Friday morning so the lab can have the coach ready for Monday morning.  This is true.  The guy is reliable and the student is a transfer from OSU.

I heard that from an AnnArbor.com beat writer before the start of last year. He said DB used his phone and there was an "affirmation" ffrom "Coach Les" on it..Sounded kind of suspect at the time, but the time to find out "if" may be coming sooner than later. Sounds like more of Les, more or less...

more of less.  I know a guy, who dated a girl, who dated Les Mile's gardner.  The gardner over heard this conversation so this is confirmed.  Les is coming back to Michigan.

There is no more Bo and no more Mo,

Lloyd is now gone, and Rich is out on the lawn,

Hes watching for Les, so its anybody's guess.

Family farmer and activist Lynn Henning exposed the egregious polluting practices of livestock factory farms in rural Michigan...

She did win the Goldman prize however...so I guess there is that?

This is Lynn  Henning... Did you hear the crap he spewed about Izzo when it was rumored he was leaving MSU. I have zero faith in anything he says. Untill Dave Brandon comes out and says Rich Rod is gone he is our coach for good or bad.

I am sure Lynn Henning has an inside connection to DB's thoughts and plans or he would never report something this Incendiary.

I mean that would irresponsible journalism if he didn’t have a source like that right?  And if there's one thing the Detroit area media will not tolerate its irresponsible and sensational journalism.

Right?

Oh, and look at these two headlines from different articles he's written:

About the MSU-Purdue (35-31):
"Spartans earning their wins, even if they are Houdini-like"

About Michigan win over Purdue (27-16):
"Even in victory, Wolverines still are a head-scratcher"

Hmmmmm.... bias much?

Articles like this really make me hate certain parts of our fan base. How many other coaches (who were actually fired or not) have had members of the MSM write stories saying they will be fired, provided specific information. It's really tarnishing to the whole fan base that there are enough people who will rejoice at the news and justify the article.

From a "Journalistic" standpoint it is not a reckless prediction, but a brilliant one.

1st - He gets to baldly state a scenario that 99% of his listeners want to hear, therefore, he entertains them and they want more.  They tune into his show tomorrow.  $$$

2nd - If he is right he is a genious and/or a great "journalist" with legit inside info.  Listeners will want more.  They tune into his show the next day.  $$$

3rd - if he is wrong then he can state that UM's production on the field against OSU (no matter how that is spun) saved his job (according to his insiders).  He will then opine on how inconceivable such a horrid decision to keep RR and how UM is a shell of its former self.  Listeners will want more.  They tune into his show the next day.  $$$

4th - Either way, his listeners will love it because he's feeding them exactly what they want.... Sports Drama about their rival.  They will tune into his show the next day.  $$$

This. Exactly.

People like to shout from the rooftops after something like this saying the journalist should be fired, because he is doing a terrible job. When, to the contrary, he is doing his job quite well for the reasons you noted above, drumming money and guiding it to his company.

Is it reckless and likely unfounded? Probably. Is it good business for his employer? No doubt.

On the 3rd point, I think it's actually worse than that.  When it turns out that his claims were completely unfounded, he need not even rationalize it.  He will simply not acknowledge the disconnect between what is happening and what he said was going to happen.  And no one will call him on it in any way that he is forced to respond to.  We have seen this play out over and over again, it is simply the way these guys work now.

a) Didn't he say Izzo couldn't come back to MSU after briefly flirting (?) with the Cavs job? I think the headline was actually, verbatim, "It's Too Late for Tom Izzo to Return"

b) Was he predicting this or reporting it? Big difference.

On WTKA, and there's more detail of what he said on RCMB (for what it's worth). I'm not putting the least bit of credence to it. And we already know Lynn's track record. But it's about to blow up, so be ready for it, is all.

He means the story is going to blow up... Unnamed sources, people, unnamed sources....

I really wish, at this point, real journalists would make a stink about this and revise their standards. It's been 100 years since yellow journalism ran rampant in a race to compete. While the reasons for sensationalism have changed (print competition in 1900 vs. medium transition in 2000s), it's all the same thing: getting a rise out of your audience to generate readership and dollars.

I don't think anyone knows what Brandon's thinking, even though everyone claims this means that. And I'm not sure Brandon even knows before Saturday (I mean, if we win, HOW could he be fired?). I like to think I have pretty good inside sources, and I haven't heard anything. But then something this big, maybe they wouldn't leak it. But I thought it was pretty clear when I called it reckless that I don't think Lynn knows anything. It's not impossible it may happen, but if it did it would be completely happenstance that he was right. I put it up not as "it's going to happen", but that Henning is saying stuff that is going to get people talking because it's so beyond the pale of the usual media crap. Most of the stuff I'm learning to ignore. This I knew was going to make waves.

Oh I forgot, He doesn't use them either.

Uninformed writer says something stupid!

I have a hard time believing DB would make this decision with OSU and a bowl game still to go.  Very un-pimp handly.

AMazinBlue

November 23rd, 2010 at 5:47 PM ^

going to make this move.  If DB, in fact , decides or has decided to make a change, he wouldn't tell anyone until he told RR first.  If there was a caveat to that, then it would be because he and Jim H have come to an agreement and JH let something slip.

Brandon is a smart guy and has run fortune-500 company, he was a regent.  He understands confidentiality and he knows how to handle this situation.  Whatever he decides, I trust it, but I seriously doubt  Lynn Henning has a source aside from the voices in his own head.

If RR was to be fired after the OSU game, would the staff stay and coach the bowl game??  That could be an ugly situation.

id be willing to bet some players left before the bowl game if RR is canned, i sure as fuck hope he isn't fired..  He at least deserves next year regardless of how the rest of the last 2 games play out.
