Lynn Henning recklessly claims Rich will be fired Monday

Submitted by M-Wolverine on
Apparently heading to MSU's press conference up he did a 20 minute interview with Tim Staudt on air over WVFN radio. They started off talking about his front page article in the Det News Today about his interview and he said Rich Rod would be fired Monday.

This is horrible even before the results of the OSU game come in. What if we win? What then? If he's wrong, he should be the one fired on Monday.

I actually heard this rumor prior to Henning saying it; which scares me a little. But my better judgment says that it is very unlikely. I can't see them doing this prior to the biggest game on the schedule. I also can't see Brandon going to the kids after they upset OSU and saying, "oh by the way I'm firing RR".

I'm chalking this one up with the Gerg resignation rumors. It may be what some people are hoping for but it's probably far from the truth.

and take it however you want, but I have a higher up very close to me that told me this afternoon that there will be a press conference monday morning to announce the departure of Rodriguez.  Not something I want to hear, but a credible source all the same........

I'll assume that by "higher up" you mean someone who works at the University in some capacity. It's like any workplace -- crazy rumors get started and circulate -- it doesn't take much. I wouldn't put too much stock in it unless the person works directly for the AD or the President, in which case they should be fired for not being able to keep their mouth shut.

...of these rumors makes my "Fake-o-meter" needle jump off the scale. No one in their right mind would fire the head coach going into the biggest game of the year.

The ONLY way that would make sense is if RR himself decided to step aside and announce it, but that would only make him look bad.

I smell rumor pie baking and their isn't enough in the recipe to make it smell good.

Not buying that pie, baby!

Then Brandon screwed his HC by intimating this to a reporter before the biggest game of the season.  Doesn't sound like Brandon.  Don't think it's true

Henning has destroyed his trust with DB either way.  If true, he let it out well before he should have.  If untrue, I think DB's going to show up on his porch and kick his ass...

There are two possibilities:

1.  You are a complete ass making this up for whatever reason.  If you are, all that I will say is "get a life."  Please note that my disdain is only if you are making this up.

2.  You actually heard information from someone that might be credible and you are sharing that information with all of us.  If you are, then thank you for the update.  This is obviously a topic about which we are all interested, and any REAL information is appreciated.

I heard a very similar thing weeks ago (after the Penn State game,)  I heard it from a guy who knows the source.  I would love to give the source, but I promised not to.   The guy who told me would not make this up.  That doesn't mean it is fact.  It is certainly second hand.  If you choose to not believe it - fine with me.

However, I too know that this post will not end well.  I am not stating for a fact that Rich Rod is done, or even saying I want this to happen.  You all can start with the mockery and the Cookie Monster jokes.  (Can't we leave the Cookie Monster out of this?  Think of the kids!)  However, multiple people on this board have heard the same thing that Henning reported from people that we consider to have some credibility.  I don't think we can just laugh this off.

You can't find Henning's embarassing column "It's Too Late for Izzo to Return" online at DETNews.com anymore.

I don't know what is going to happen.  Except I am going to bookmark this thread, and come back to it.  And I'll come back to Henning's name next week if he has, once again, shot his mouth off.

btw; I have emailed Lynn Henning before.  And I've gotten a reply from him.  I made no secret of my anger at his crappy reporting on Michigan.  Be assured; Lynn Henning hates Michigan, and he thinks little or nothing of the college football blogs.  We have nothing whatsoever -- no common ground -- to share with Lynn Henning.  He's not a nice guy.  He not only doesn't like this site; he doesn't repsect it either.  There is nothing to like, or admire, about Lynn Henning.

This is a particularly good week to remember that Michigan has rivals, and Michigan has enemies.  Ohio State is a rival.  Henning, and Michael Rosenberg, are enemies.

my broad brush. Every time I have a chance to post in a comment section of one of the other reporters, I am going to lump them in with Henning. I can't do a thing about Henning, but on the outside chance that it might resonate with someone else, Imma going to do it. It is no worse than what their so-called peers do, and heaven knows I am not above acting like a #@%$^ journalist.

That is the sad world of journalism. "Journalists" can go on any kind of limb without facing many repercussions for being wrong. If RR gets fired he can claim to be the first one who "broke" the story and get a lot of credibility. If RR wins on Monday or doesn't get fired, old Lynn can claim something else as the reason for RR being retained. Sadly the last thing UM needs is more negative talk about its coach...
