Lynn Henning recklessly claims Rich will be fired Monday
This is horrible even before the results of the OSU game come in. What if we win? What then? If he's wrong, he should be the one fired on Monday.
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:11 PM ^
I actually heard this rumor prior to Henning saying it; which scares me a little. But my better judgment says that it is very unlikely. I can't see them doing this prior to the biggest game on the schedule. I also can't see Brandon going to the kids after they upset OSU and saying, "oh by the way I'm firing RR".
I'm chalking this one up with the Gerg resignation rumors. It may be what some people are hoping for but it's probably far from the truth.
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:20 PM ^
I heard this exact same rumor last year before the Ohio State game. Judging by that, I guarantee this rumor to be 100% true.
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:20 PM ^
yup, I remember that one as well. Rumors are generally not true IMO. They only become larger than that when stupid people like Lynn Henning, or dumb BTN sideline reporters, post it to their twitter.
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:30 PM ^
and take it however you want, but I have a higher up very close to me that told me this afternoon that there will be a press conference monday morning to announce the departure of Rodriguez. Not something I want to hear, but a credible source all the same........
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:34 PM ^
Another insider with secret inside information. Must be true!!!!
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:38 PM ^
and nothing is proven until it comes to fruition, but my source is not someone that would make this up and that's what worries me. I'm of the opinion that letting RR go would wreck recruiting and I'd much rather see him around, this is just news passed to me that I'm putting on here, nothing more.
November 23rd, 2010 at 6:01 PM ^
"X is not the kind of person who would make things up".
I've heard this kind of statement regarding unfounded rumors too many times to count.
November 23rd, 2010 at 6:17 PM ^
Said he didn't eat my leftover Big Ten Burrito. He manages our house finances and is a person I can trust who has knowledge of the situation.
I also found the foil sitting on the table in front of his chair in the living room....
November 23rd, 2010 at 9:52 PM ^
Yeah and how many people personally knew the real estate agent who was helping Les Miles' wife pick out a home in Barton?
November 23rd, 2010 at 10:56 PM ^
Is this the same guy who would not make things up who said Miles was coming in 2007? I think he works for College Gameday or something.
November 23rd, 2010 at 6:19 PM ^
Raback it!
November 23rd, 2010 at 6:23 PM ^
Is there a replacement named?
November 23rd, 2010 at 8:21 PM ^
Les Miles
November 23rd, 2010 at 8:29 PM ^
I'll assume that by "higher up" you mean someone who works at the University in some capacity. It's like any workplace -- crazy rumors get started and circulate -- it doesn't take much. I wouldn't put too much stock in it unless the person works directly for the AD or the President, in which case they should be fired for not being able to keep their mouth shut.
November 23rd, 2010 at 9:30 PM ^
I hope your source is old school wolverine. he or she guaranteed that we were getting Arnett, had an inside source.
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:37 PM ^
Is that "higher up" Dave Brandon?
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:39 PM ^
Well... I'm actually employed by the AD and I say you're wrong.
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:40 PM ^
your imaginary friend? Amazing how there are 438,000 people with an inside source that is credible.
I had an inside source tell me that the cookie monster was leaving sesame street on Monday and will be joining Skating with the Stars.
see, i can do it too.
November 23rd, 2010 at 7:50 PM ^
the cookie monster coach defense?
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:43 PM ^
...of these rumors makes my "Fake-o-meter" needle jump off the scale. No one in their right mind would fire the head coach going into the biggest game of the year.
The ONLY way that would make sense is if RR himself decided to step aside and announce it, but that would only make him look bad.
I smell rumor pie baking and their isn't enough in the recipe to make it smell good.
Not buying that pie, baby!
November 23rd, 2010 at 7:19 PM ^
Not because I agree with what you are saying (for the record, I do), but because of the last two sentences of your post. I just imagine Lou Holtz saying it dressed up as a doctor or electrical technician or whatever his current schtick is; then I laugh.
November 23rd, 2010 at 7:36 PM ^
Earl Bruce.
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:49 PM ^
Then Brandon screwed his HC by intimating this to a reporter before the biggest game of the season. Doesn't sound like Brandon. Don't think it's true
Henning has destroyed his trust with DB either way. If true, he let it out well before he should have. If untrue, I think DB's going to show up on his porch and kick his ass...
November 23rd, 2010 at 7:15 PM ^
My guess is that Henning has been moved to the Drew Sharp column.
November 23rd, 2010 at 8:45 PM ^
He'll pimp slap him.
November 24th, 2010 at 1:41 AM ^
or he'll just have the coner burn it down...?
November 23rd, 2010 at 6:10 PM ^
This is why we need a "/s" to denote sarcasm. You entered this under remarks that were obviously sarcasm, but people think that you are telling the truth.
I am confused.
November 23rd, 2010 at 6:15 PM ^
There are two possibilities:
1. You are a complete ass making this up for whatever reason. If you are, all that I will say is "get a life." Please note that my disdain is only if you are making this up.
2. You actually heard information from someone that might be credible and you are sharing that information with all of us. If you are, then thank you for the update. This is obviously a topic about which we are all interested, and any REAL information is appreciated.
November 23rd, 2010 at 6:34 PM ^
I heard a very similar thing weeks ago (after the Penn State game,) I heard it from a guy who knows the source. I would love to give the source, but I promised not to. The guy who told me would not make this up. That doesn't mean it is fact. It is certainly second hand. If you choose to not believe it - fine with me.
However, I too know that this post will not end well. I am not stating for a fact that Rich Rod is done, or even saying I want this to happen. You all can start with the mockery and the Cookie Monster jokes. (Can't we leave the Cookie Monster out of this? Think of the kids!) However, multiple people on this board have heard the same thing that Henning reported from people that we consider to have some credibility. I don't think we can just laugh this off.
November 23rd, 2010 at 8:50 PM ^
Is your "higher up" source GERG's talking stuffed animal? Because I don't trust a word that thing says.
November 23rd, 2010 at 9:01 PM ^
...mother-in-law's second cousin's paperboy's older sister's boyfriend's best friend's father's podiatrist's secretary's uncle's dachsund's veterinarian's assistant's father's race horse's jockey's nephew's bus driver says your source is out of the loop.
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:29 PM ^
Source please.
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:57 PM ^
I think it was that clown on JT the Brick's show in Hour 4 at the 7:25 mark.
Or at least he was saying the same thing.
November 23rd, 2010 at 6:20 PM ^
Speaking of rumors... My wife's coworker's were spreading the BS rumor that Brandon already fired Rod and Rod was in the pressbox pleading for more time after the Wisconsin loss. I think people like telling tall tales and the listeners enjoy the "insider knowledge" and spread it like a wild fire.
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:11 PM ^
Lynn Henning is the one that said it would be impossible for Izzo to return to MSU before he had left. Just remember that in your outrage.
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:19 PM ^
just so I can cancel them (again).
November 23rd, 2010 at 7:52 PM ^
You can't find Henning's embarassing column "It's Too Late for Izzo to Return" online at DETNews.com anymore.
I don't know what is going to happen. Except I am going to bookmark this thread, and come back to it. And I'll come back to Henning's name next week if he has, once again, shot his mouth off.
btw; I have emailed Lynn Henning before. And I've gotten a reply from him. I made no secret of my anger at his crappy reporting on Michigan. Be assured; Lynn Henning hates Michigan, and he thinks little or nothing of the college football blogs. We have nothing whatsoever -- no common ground -- to share with Lynn Henning. He's not a nice guy. He not only doesn't like this site; he doesn't repsect it either. There is nothing to like, or admire, about Lynn Henning.
This is a particularly good week to remember that Michigan has rivals, and Michigan has enemies. Ohio State is a rival. Henning, and Michael Rosenberg, are enemies.
November 23rd, 2010 at 9:47 PM ^
The reason why he doesn't like this site is because we get more hits than him.
November 23rd, 2010 at 10:17 PM ^
my broad brush. Every time I have a chance to post in a comment section of one of the other reporters, I am going to lump them in with Henning. I can't do a thing about Henning, but on the outside chance that it might resonate with someone else, Imma going to do it. It is no worse than what their so-called peers do, and heaven knows I am not above acting like a #@%$^ journalist.
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:12 PM ^
I'm glad I don't live in Michigan anymore and have to listen to this shit constantly. We are shielded for the most part here in Florida.
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:13 PM ^
My bile rises enough just from seeing people tell me about it on here; to actually have to listen to this stuff on the radio- well, I guess I wouldn't be listening to the radio.
November 23rd, 2010 at 5:12 PM ^
That is the sad world of journalism. "Journalists" can go on any kind of limb without facing many repercussions for being wrong. If RR gets fired he can claim to be the first one who "broke" the story and get a lot of credibility. If RR wins on Monday or doesn't get fired, old Lynn can claim something else as the reason for RR being retained. Sadly the last thing UM needs is more negative talk about its coach...
