Lynn Henning Homerism

Submitted by Raback Omaba on

This is really a pointless post, but I read my first article by Lynn Henning a few weeks ago and have read a few since.

Is it just me, or is this guy just a blatant MSU homer? His articles and opinions always spin anything MSU related positively, especially in contrast to his comments on Michigan.

"But that should be temporary, all because this isn't your father's Michigan State. They now know how to hire coaches in East Lansing.

A reasonable version of Izzo 2.0, you can bet, would be chosen by Mark Hollis, the Michigan State athletic director, and his savvy boss, president Lou Anna Simon.

Is it just me or is this guy the biggest homer in the world??

FWIW I think Izzo stays in East Lansing and would be dumb to leave.

FWIW, I read the Detroit News often growing up, and I most remember Henning writing the weekly WWF/pro wrestling section for the sports page.  It would appear his mindset hasn't changed since his promotion to real sports...

That wasn't Lynn Henning. The guy who covered wrestling was a copy editor writing under an alias. (I think his real name was Jim Thompson). He ended up doing some time in the pokey for, eh, inappropriate contact with underage young men.

This is from a Metro Times story written about it. There is no link remaining on the Metro Times' website, but it's all quoted here: http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Archive/Rec/rec.sport.pro-wrestling/200… .

A newspaper actually paid someone to write about pro wrestling on the sports pages? No wonder it's a dying industry.

biggest homer in Sports History:HAWK HARRELSON.

Just my luck, we are heading down to watch the Tigers/Sox tomorrow night and it happens to be Hawk Harrelson night. Great.

I read an article by him on Glen Winston.  He actually doesn't see a difference in allowing a invidual who assaulted people (putting them in the hospital, and spending six months in jail) with a guy who was arrested for underage drinking and DUI (Scott Skiles) and a high school kid that got arrested twice but both charges were dropped/acquitted (Dorsey).

The guy needs a reality check.  Comparing someone who has intent to do harm (and actually does it) with others who didn't do harm is alarming.

The guy is an idiot.

and he also basically said that he didn't understand why winston got kicked out of school when the general population of students don't if they get arrested.

huh?!?!  winston is on a scholarship, therefore, he should be held to a higher standard, imo.  further, i bet there are a lot of academic scholarships out there with some kind of "morals" clause.  hey, if winston wants to stay at msu and pay his own way, they should consider allowing him to do so.  but i wouldn't.

If this taught you anything it is to never read a Lynn Henning article again. Seriously how he tries to make all the things Michigan State has done ok is quite pathetic.

I think he's from MSU, and wears it on his sleeve.  Prefer that than acting all even-handed, but really have huge bias.  I mean, should he do it?  Probably not.  But he's always been that way.  He's just been saying really stupid things about it lately.
