Lunardi's latest update

The latest Bracketology update at ESPN has us as an 11 seed in the southwest (?) region and playing 6 seeded Vanderbilt.  Gotta believe that's a win-able game.  Even more interesting, take a peak at who the 3 seed is on the line below us !!!!! :

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology

This sort of "irony" is something the committee loves to have "happen".... talk about a lot of hype if this came true, as well as crazy TV ratings. (would Bill Frieder call the game?)

They're different.

CBS =/= Lunardi.

Did you even look at the brackets?

CBS has us as the 11 seed in the West facing Cincinnati, and this bracket posted here has us the 11 seed in the Southwest facing Vandy.

I like this one.

The other brackets I've seen all have MSU higher seeded than us, despite the fact that they are 16-13* (or 16-14 if they lose to Iowa on Thursday).  I know, I know, they started preseason #2 and had a pretty rough nonconference schedule, but, heck, we swept 'em -- doesn't that say.. anything?

If we beat Vandy, that would certainly be a fun (and, admittedly tough) game for us.

Intriguing.

*The NCAA does not count MSU's win over non-D1 opponent Chaminade.  Similarly, Michigan is really 18-12 as our win over Concordia doesn't count

is not considered to be quality wins.  RPI top 25 is considered to be quality wins. Michigan doesn't have that yet which is why I would feel more comfortable with Michigan win over Illini in 2nd round of BTT so they can be in.

I'm still dubious of Lunardi a bit since he didn't have UM in a couple of weeks ago and was rather dismissive of their chances.  That said, #11 would make some sense and would create a juicy 2nd-rounder with SDSU if that was the case.  Still, I'm just happy that in most mock brackets this team is solidly in.  What an amazing turn-around from last year.

If I hear one more person say they are in because of their strength of schedule I'm going to go nuts.  Ignoring the Big Ten, because those games are mandatory what is their best win versus this sweet strength of schedule??  Washington??  If Washington is considered a quality enough win to put you in at 17-13 that is absolutely insane.  Strength of schedule is great, but those games must be won too.  It's not like we r in because we could have beat Cuse (neutral) or OSU, KU, or Wiscy at home.

One thing you hear a lot is that the committee will judge a team by the team they have for the tournament, and for that reason many people think BYU will be downgraded to a 3 or 4 seed because of the loss of Brandon Davies.

I'm not sure why the same logic would not be applied to MSU and Korie Lucious. He was their leader in assists when he was kicked off the team and if not for a huge 3 against Wisconsin they probably would have lost that game. Since he was dismissed State is 5-6.

They should be on the outside of the bubble when you factor in his loss.
