1-seed and clean up inbounding and defense a little bit...anything can happen this year. I don't see a true dominate team like North Carolina in the past or even Louisville last year.
Lunardi Says Michigan Currently a #1 Seed
I would say Arizona is the favorite. That team frightens me.
Eh...we had them on the ropes earlier in the season and should have won that game. I don't fear any team this year.
I don't usually put much stock in what happened at the beginning of the season. I mean, look at where we were compared to where we are now.
Brandon Ashley, who led them in scoring. Granted we are without Mitch, but he didn't have a great game. I think it's a good match-up.
Eh stop using eh
Florida terrifies me. Good mix of veteran experience
I agree. I know we kicked their asses last year, but they were missing easy shots and they never could recover from Stauskas going Stauskas on them in the first half. They are much better than what they showed that day an it wouldn't surprise me to see them win it all.
Yeah why can't we run plays other than lob to a big near half court? I guess if the allotted practice time is devoted to our half court offense I am OK with it
Hope it's not us
Sorry to thread jack, but the RCMB is hilarious. Every time Michigan wins or hits a lot of threes, it's because they are lucky or getting help from the referees. These fools on the RCMB don't realize that Michigan is one of the top teams in the country when it comes to fouling. They have been like that all season, so why their idiotic fans continue to bitch about getting help from the referees is beyond me.
11 Warriors has the same thought. Little mention of whatever that last thing was.
Sparty is playing like a National Championship contender for the first time in months.
After they lose tomorrow they'll revert to more of the same
Even though they won, there's still like 10 threads going over there whining about the officiating. If it weren't so funny it would be sad.
The same reason this fanbase was griping and moaning about Tom Izzo in a thread meant to celebrate Coach Beilein's winning COY: by and large sports fans, Michigan fans included, are mouth breathing neanderthals, at least when it comes to their respective teams.
espn wishes the 4 1-seeds could be Duke, Duke, Duke and Duke...true story
I don't want any part of Virginia in the tournament.
For some reason they don't scare me. I have only seen one five minute stretch of Virginia bball this year and it (coupled with what I've been reading) hasn't really scared me all that much.
So you aren't scared of a top 10 basketball team based on one 5 min viewing and reading a few articles?? Why hasn't Coach B snagged you for a job yet!?
I don know man. There are only a few teams that scare me and Virginia is not one.
UVA is very solid defensively. They are playing very well at the right time.
I agree that they're playing well, but I'd consider the high powered offensive teams to be more of a threat to us than a team like Virginia. I think we can score on anyone, and I just don't see Virginia (or a like team) being able to keep up with us on the offesnive end right now.
UVA plays Manball: walk the ball, gritty defense. We do ok against those teams when we're not giving up possessions.
Am I wrong to assume with a win tomorrow we are a #1 seed and with a loss tomorrow we are the #2 in the Midwest with Wichita? If so, I won't complain either way.
My thoughts exactly.
If Wisconsin loses might get the 1 either way
The committee will probably finish the bracket before the game even ends. Tomorrow will more than likely be just for bragging rights and some more hardware for the trophy case.
We gotta start the B1G tournament earlier in the week. Whether the committee factors in our victory or not, Beat Staee!!!
It has to do with Delaney's stones. The B1G has the national stage for 2 hours before the tournament draw. Our beloved conference is the very last piece of the March Madness puzzle. Do you think Delaney would ever give up that spotlight? It gives some credence to the power and relevance of the conference (given we can't sniff a MNC in football).
Gonna have to beat MSU to keep it.
The committee finishes the bracket before the Big Ten title game on a lot of occasions
But they plan for all contingencies.
If I remember correctly, very recently MSU and OSU played in the BIG tourney ship and the winner got a 1 and the loser a 2. The rest of the bracket was already filled. I am pretty sure some members said they just penciled in the names after the result of the game.
Although TeamRankings still has its #1 seeds rather solidly as Arizona, Wichita State, Villanova and Florida (not in that order), the recent stats show Villanova slipping a bit and Mchigan gaining, and this was before today's result. At least in their projection, another win tomorrow from us may very well make it a debate between us and Villanova in their algorithm.
Coach Beilein is, in my mind, the top coach in any sport UofM has seen. He brought this team back from near death and sustained success, in the face of losing multiple NBA level players, is astounding.
Honestly, this surprises me. I could see Duke getting the 1 seed ahead of us (provided they win their conference tournament) because of the head to head.....and the fact that they're Duke.
#1. #2. Either seed puts us in a great spot to make a run. As long as we are at least a #2 I'll be happy.
^This. The #1 will have to play the #2 anyways (theoretically). I don't think it matters that much if you play the #3 or the #4 on your way. And I think this team would respond better to being an underrated #2 rather than being overhyped #1.
Lunardi's nitty report has us at #3 overall jumping both Nova and Wichita State.
Duke is #5 and UVA is #11. I guess I am rooting for UVA tomorrow in that game, But we may be #1 if we win regardless.
Things are looking even better.
No way. The BPI currently has us as a #5 seed.
Don't let anyone from the post I started see this. They will neg you and say how wrong and stupid you are.
Just because Michigan could be a #1 with a win or loss doesn't mean the committee doesn't account for the result of the final game - they can account for it without it changing their seedings.
No matter what I think the commitee is going to put Michigan and Virginia in the same bracket as either the 1 or 2 seed depending on the conference championship outcomes...
UM wins UVA wins ... UM 1 UVA 2
UM wins UVA loses UM 1 UVA 2
UM loses UVA wins UM 2 UVA 1
Big ten championship game too late and too important to not pencil in michigan with the team thats going to be in the reigion as them
The team desitined to win the tourney always does, be thjey a 10 seed or no. 1. I've watched Wooden's team win against some medicore team from somewhere in KY other than Lexington because he instructed them to foul a player. albeit a reserve who hadn't missed a free throw all year. Sho nuf, he danged it, ane the Bruins proceeded downcourt to make the winning fg. I saw "Never Give up Valvano," instruct his team to fould at every opportunity to keep the game going and end up winning on a shot so far off that a guard, yes a guard, rebound the 3 foot miss and convert the tap in for the game-winner. I saw Villanova, under Massie miss one damn shot the entire game.in other words, play 99% the perfect game to bet G.T. and Patrick. And these are just games that jump out at me. There is always a team destined, normaly one that doesn't realize it but catches some type of bug that after two, possibly three games, begins playing as if they had been No. 1 all year simply do the inexplicable and that's why March Madness is perhaps the best thing about college sports.
Give me Michigan as #1 in the East with #4 Syracuse.
Does two things:
1) Gives Michigan a matchup against a dumpsterfire in the 2nd round
2) If Michigan loses, hedges my bet
