Luke Fickell Press Conf. 4pm est.

Submitted by GunnersApe on

ESPN is reporting he's giving his first press conference at 4pm est on ESPN/BTN. We know they'll say JT/TP questions are off limits but what's the Over/Under on how many they ask anyway, I'm saying six.

It's his first as OSU's head coach just like every other new hire. They delayed due to mass amounts of shit sandwiches/compliance cover-ups and now seems like a good time between us going to Costco for popcorn and the next asteroid to hit C-bus.

What could he possibly have to say? Just reassuring the fanbase that everything will be okay and that they're moving forward, or is this going to be a pre-emptive announcement of more NCAA violations or something?

and try and wow a skeptical fan base with a rousing and passionate introductory press conference. Alas, he will fail. It's so weird they've delayed this intro press conference so long.

Reporter: President Gee, is there a chance that you find a new head coach during the upcoming season, and will subsequently relieve Coach Fickell of his duties?

Gordon Gee: Are you kidding me?  I just hope that he doesn't fire me!!

I would be PISSED! Waiting 14 days to make your first press confrence, while ohio is dealing with all this crap.  I would hope if this was a michigan coach he would speak right away saying at the very least to say "I am honored to be the coach" or giving some kind of motivation and somthing to look forward to.

There is zero chance that he keeps the job after the sanctions are delivered.  His role is to keep the seat warm until the smoke clears and the coaching candidates can fully review the implications of the NCAA's punishment.  It is inconceivable that any coach from the Tressel staff could be retained after the laundry list of violations that have surfaced.

Not only was Tressel dirty, the staff was at least as bad.  The position coaches know the players even better than the head coach.  Of course, OSU has demonstrated that the university is far less important than winning football games, so just disregard what any logical university would do.

but on last night's "Wall to Wall Sports" here in cbus [OT note, even if I were a fan, this would have to be one of the creepiest shows out there - guys standing at a counter spouting about the week's topics with food getting cold in front of them while an audience of like 9 people at 3 small round table snarf food at 11:35 on a Sunday night, plus maybe a high school team that gets to sit and do nothing but smile when the camera points at them], local Dispatch homer Tim May was trying to make some point that OSU is no longer saying "interim" for Fickell.  Still don't see him lasting past this year.

I can't recall or imagine a more consistently inept PR strategy than the one OSU has shown the world. I really can't think of one smart thing they've done. And they still haven't learned.

Dollars to doughnuts that a segment of OSU slaps will be posting "Hire this man!" tonight after the press conference.

Does anyone know how people like Pryor's lawyer are already saying that 8 of the 9 from the article have already been cleared by the NCAA?  I find that very hard to believe that they (NCAA)  have researched this enough to clear them already.  If this turns out to be true I think that OSU will not be in as much trouble as we all would like them to be and they will only be getting relatively minor sanctions against them.
