Can he leave Cam Cameron behind?
November 30th, 2014 at 2:27 PM ^
disqualifier for Miles. At 61 if he has his health 10 years at UM is not a stretch. Lot's of people are working at a high performance level, some running highly complex organizations well into their 70s.
November 30th, 2014 at 2:28 PM ^
But please leave Cam and the inability to have a functioning offense behind. It will be like this year.
November 30th, 2014 at 2:36 PM ^
On a similar note, please bring the d-coordinator (Chavis?). He would be a huge upgrade over Mattison

What style of offense does Miles run at LSU, I always catch their close games at the end and never pay attention to that

Multiple offense. Adapts to the players he has at hand.
November 30th, 2014 at 2:34 PM ^
Ah, like a coach should? Lol. MANBALL. HOKE PLAY MANBALL.
November 30th, 2014 at 2:42 PM ^
Kind of like what hoke always wanted to do but never could. It's a multiple set using pro and spread elements.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:04 PM ^
Is that like Lloyds last game against the Florida Gators? Loved that offense.
November 30th, 2014 at 2:32 PM ^
I would prefer Mullen to Miles as the #2 choice, but would be happy to have Miles. He would bring some energy, recruit his ass off and get us back on track.
I like Mullen's offense a lot. The fact that he is a Meyer disciple make me want him even more sadly. I was so impressed with what OSU did with Barrett this year. I think the offense is very QB friendly. The spread those guys run is really lethal. Like I said though, I would be ecstatic with Miles.
November 30th, 2014 at 2:55 PM ^
Mullen didn't seem to have his team ready to play last night and blew MSU's chance at the playoff this year. Mississippi's season went down the drain with 3 recent losses and still made Mullen's Bulldogs look pretty tame.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:51 PM ^
and Mullen made LSU look abysmal, what is your point?
November 30th, 2014 at 3:55 PM ^
for HC at Michigan. Miles has several excellent seasons at LSU(mixed in with good ones).
November 30th, 2014 at 5:21 PM ^
so you didn't want Jim Harbaugh in 2011?
November 30th, 2014 at 5:37 PM ^
The amount of work it took to get to a point of having that season in the SEC is astronomical. If he goes 2-6 in conference for the next two years then sure it was a flash in the pan but I don't think that's the case. He's installed a system and he's made Starkville a destination for recruiting talent that would typically go to top programs in other conferences. He's done a hell of a job acquiring talent and getting them to their potential. He deserves the opportunity to be at a program that has invested in facilities and resources that will make coaching life less of a struggle. I'd be excited to see what he could do at a program like Michigan or Florida

Rivalry games are always weird. I honestly thought Mullen was a viable candidate 3 years ago when Rich Rod was let go. That MSU team won 9 games and totally embarrassed us. There aren't many worse jobs than MSU in the SEC (Vanderbilt and Kentucky) and he has been quite successful. He is could be the next Urban Meyer which may make him more or less viable as a candidate in the boards eyes. I would kill to have Meyer as a head coach personally despite the fact I'm sure it isn't a popular opinion.
November 30th, 2014 at 2:36 PM ^
Harbaugh and Miles are #1 and #2 for the fans, that's what worries me. The flashy hire to appease the fans could backfire. I would hope that our AD knows a heck of a lot more than the fans and can find a coach that will rebuild the program and stay for a decade or more.

The black sheep hire worked well the last time

Because they can coach. This isn't like drafting Tim Tebow or some other fan favorite-the fans are correct to want these two guys because they both are excellent coaches. Hackett would be wise to listen to the fans.
November 30th, 2014 at 5:31 PM ^
Nobody is wise to listen to fans because fans have no idea what the hell they are talking about in 99.9% of cases. The AD doesn't not should he give 2 shits what you or I think about hiring a new coach.

Too much focus just on the head coach. What coordinators will he bring? What style of offense? He won't be able to recruit like he did when he owned one of the best states in the country - La, so what will be the impact of that?
Either way, it'd be a big time name and a proven coach which would of course be an upgrade over this nice guy disaster we're done with now.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:29 PM ^
in the form of Ohio and Pennslyvania. You also neglected to mention that he did just fine at Okie State--located in a state with not a lot of football talent.
He isn't the home run that Harbaugh is, but he is at least a double. That's better than the striking out--while-being-beaned coach we have now.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:37 PM ^
UM has recruited La pretty well over the years tho
November 30th, 2014 at 2:45 PM ^
I hope Miles comes back but am also suspicious he parlays it, yet again, for a raise at LSU like the prior 2 searches or maybe his visit up here last summer with his QB kid is a good omen. The crystal ball is very cloudy.

November 30th, 2014 at 3:20 PM ^
I don't know how to do links (too old) but the article was in Maxpreps.com on 10/3/14 that his QB son's #1 choice would be UM after their visit and camp.
November 30th, 2014 at 2:49 PM ^
If we can't get Harbaugh or Patterson. Not completely sold on Mullen in a one year hit wonder. Miles is proven.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:03 PM ^
I don't think any of those coaches are coming to Michigan.
November 30th, 2014 at 2:52 PM ^
Jim Harbaugh is my number 1 choice, but ending up with Les Miles is one heck of a consolation prize! Before we start throwing darts such as "wanting a coach that is going to be around for a decade" let's look his coaching tree. Mike Gundy, Jimbo Fischer, Bo Pelini, Larry Porter, Brad Peveto, and Todd Monker have all been HC. Much better lineage than Moeller or Carr. I'm sure they'll have a plan in place. May be a part of attracting a top notch coordinator.

Les Miles would be a big improvement, as would Harbaugh, as would Pelini, as would my grandma, who's been dead for 41 years.
November 30th, 2014 at 5:25 PM ^
In fairness though, Grandma BlueHills was a hell of a coach.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:09 PM ^
At what point do you think Hoke will be fired? Before or after Wednesday?
November 30th, 2014 at 3:12 PM ^
All I know is that the anticipation is killing me! I hate and love the off season!
November 30th, 2014 at 3:12 PM ^
I think they will wait until after the FB bust on the 8th to announce it. He may have already been told and the search is probably underway.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:14 PM ^
There are distinct schools regarding Les among the LSU faithful, as evidenced by the thread at TigerDroppings regarding that tweet - LINK TO THREAD
Long story short, at least among fans, you have this contigent that wouldn't mind if he took the Michigan job when available, another group that thinks this group is nuts, and a small minority that seems to be more focused on specific staff changes.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:24 PM ^
"TigerDroppings"?
That's what they call their board? Seriously?!
November 30th, 2014 at 3:19 PM ^
I personally think that Coach Miles is the more realistic option.
I never really believed that Coach Harbaugh was coming anyways.
Coach Miles is a little crazy, players like him and he can win games!
November 30th, 2014 at 3:23 PM ^
If a Michigan coach ever tweeted his admiration for another schools weekend football game. We (being UofM fans) would flip our shit...
November 30th, 2014 at 3:33 PM ^
I believe that there is some substance behind his tweet. He can root for Michigan privately, but the fact that he took to social media to say that tells me that he is interested in the job. Maybe Hackett was texting Miles at the end of the game?
November 30th, 2014 at 3:37 PM ^
He tweeted the same thing last year. This tweet in and of itself means nothing.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:38 PM ^
We also weren't firing our head coach last year. All I am saying is the door is open and you better believe his name is on the list of candidates. With the mediocre year LSU had, this could be the chance for Miles to finish out his coaching career at his alma mater.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:59 PM ^
Maybe the guy who runs his Twitter account was trolling us.
November 30th, 2014 at 4:00 PM ^
No shit. That's why I said "in and of itself." The text was basically the same. The question now is if there is something in addition, underneath, this tweet that is different. But the fact that he tweeted that tweet, given that he tweeted the same thing last year, is meaningless without more context on his part.
November 30th, 2014 at 4:42 PM ^
No shit.
November 30th, 2014 at 5:26 PM ^
no, you're reading too much into it. He tweets it out every time we play OSU. It's not a thing. If you want to read anything it, read the idea that he wants to keep LSU on their toes so he can wring more money from them when our job is open.
Les' agent is notorious for seeding articles suggesting he'd take any job. Arkansas a few years ago, Washington years before that, and that he'd never say no to Michigan. He's got good representation.
