LSU Insiders Speculate Les Miles is Headed to Michigan

Submitted by IvyLeague on

The title says it all. That's the chatter from the folks over there. Also, Les Miles tweeted "Geux Blue.... beat em in the Horseshoe!!" yesterday.

yeah, anyone who believes that the whole "Les would never say no to Michigan!" line is anything more than agent speak is deluding themselves. Les won't be offered the job (for the third time in a row) but he sure as hell will get a nice raise to offset his lost performance bonuses after this year.

but I think you may be ignoring the lower level of love he has at LSU now than the RR & Hoke hires. The fans haven't been as happy with him as before and his live of Michigan is undeniable and no joke. I think he knows that if he ever wants to coach at Michigan, now is likely his last chance.

It all depends the coaching staff Miles brings with him.  The coordinators will be extremely important.  And hopefully he has guys that teach their positions well.  Our secondary coach was the best recruiter in the world, but man, db coach?  An ex LBer who was too young and exerienced at a position he never played trying to teach it?

And i wont even begin in regards to the OL coach.

Les' assistant hiring track record is pretty overblown. His offensive coordinators have mostly been duds since Fisher left (and you're lying to yourself if you think he's not bringing Cam with him if he comes here), and there is a zero percent chance Chavis comes with him. I guess you could credit him with hiring Gundy, but Gundy was an Oklahoma State guy who had already been their OC previously so it was hardly an amazing discovery.

This entire time, I've been quietly thinking this was far more reasonable than a lot of folks would have ever thought. Timing seems right with them out of the mix in the SEC and heading to a shitty bowl game, too.

Too many stories about Bo essentially banishing him from Ann Arbor for there not to be at least some truth to them.  I'm guessing the memory of Bo is going to carry more weight than the personal connections guys have with Miles.

From the football alumni I've spoken with (not a lot, but guys from 80's and early 90's), none of them were fans because they trusted Bo's opinion.

...but doesn't Trace Armstrong represent Jones?

I'd say you could be pretty certain that someone at Michigan spoke to Trace Armstrong at some point in the season. I'm sure we "contacted" Urban Meyer while we were at it, not that it means anything.

No thanks.  Guy is already what, 61? We need someone who will be here for 10+ years.  I can only imagine the negative recruiting that will go on by other schools.  "He'll be gone before you graduate."

I did leave that out and you're right but if he were to come here being as over the top as he is he would do well. He's a mans man and tough football is his game. He would recruit Ohio well and have his national style as well. You're telling me that he will come to michigan and suddenly be out recruited by Dantonio? I think he will excel here if given the chance.

this post is full of nothing but assumptions. How do you know he would recruit Ohio well and recruit nationally if he came here? How do you know that negative recruiting about his age would be so easy to overcome? How do you know that he'd go out and hire what would, in effect, be a head coach in waiting instead of just bringing Cam Cameron along and nabbing someone like Muschamp that we wouldn't want as our future HC?

My problem with people who want Les is that they only want this idealized version of Les who doesn't actually exist outside of the imagination.
