Bolden repeatedly lost head-to head battles with walk on QB McGloiFavre.  Then, as a result of his discontent, he tries to transfer and is repeatedly denied (which you may or may not feel was a kosher thing for PSU to do).  So naturally, one of the best teams of the last decade swoops in to offer him a scholarship the second he is allowed to finally transfer.  I get Bolden's decision, but what does the mad hatter see in this guy?

He should only be able to go wherever he wants if he can travel at warp 9....make it so #1, Data....engage!

In all seriousness, I hope he gets to go where he has a chance to compete and have a semblance of a career, JoePa screwed him over, IMO, just like he screwed over the program by his selfishness in letting a disgusting creep keep an office at the Football facilities despite knowing of his actions many years earlier.

*If* Les Miles can make something out of Rob Bolden at quarterback in the SEC imagine what he could have done had he spotted a ginger haired walk on named Matt only four years ago...

Bolden always had potential. His problem, like most other PSU recruits was that Jay Paterno was awful at coaching. If he worked at it, maybe Bill O' Brien could have made him into something.

on QB's.  Never heard of Mettenberger and the other two guys are RS Fr.   Bolden immediately becomes the most experienced LSU QB because he's actually played college football.

  8 Zack Mettenberger 6-5 222 Jr.
  17 Stephen Rivers 6-7 220 Fr.-RS
  15 Jerrard Randall 6-1 180 Fr.-RS

Mettenberger is a JUCO QB who began at Georgia. he's a far, far better player than Bolden. He was better than the two senior qbs above him, but the Hatter kept him off the field.

Yeah, Mettenberger should be decent if not good. I saw him at Georgia's spring game before he was booted when both he and Aaron Murray were freshman and he looked to be the better of the two. Caveats apply about development, it just being one game and a glorified scrimmage at that, and that I am and have always been just a fan, but the guy looked like a gamer. Big arm, too, if I'm remembering correctly. I walked out of Sanford Stadium saying he would start over Murray, then he promptly got booted off the team.

I always felt bad for Bolden. He kept getting benched, kept trying to transfer, kept getting stonewalled (either denied his transfer or talked into staying), only to keep getting benched. That kid has should have left years ago.

Why LSU wants him (cue Jordan Jefferson joke) is beyond me, but good for Bolden for finally getting out after years of trying.

More precisely, his dad would disagree. On the other hand, when I called him to comment, the elder Newton was unavailable, as he had taken the family Gulfstream to Dubai to meet his 250 ft yacht on his way to their estate in the Seychelles.
