Loy Vaught arrest
Just saw this surprising and shocking story about former Michigan b-ball player Loy Vaught being arrested at the Grand Rapids airport for some unknown cause:

This is very surprising to say the least given his high character and stellar record at U-M. I remember him coming in a as a skinny, unheralded freshman and working his butt off to become an NBA caliber player by his senior year.
The information released about the incident is extremely little. So, it's hard to make any judgements. But, I hope that this whole thing is minor and based on a misunderstanding of some kind. We'll see.

He stole AJ Hawk's 5 thousand dollars.

You absolutely must be a UM fan.

That was national news, which I found exceedingly funny.

are you on EDSBS? Seems like that's a joke that goes around there, too...

He lived with Mangold. Mangold was a really cool guy, Hawk was a dick.

Doesn't sound like a big deal.
Chicago Tribune reports "airport spokesman Bruce Schedlbauer says Vaught allegedly caused a disturbance with his behavior in a passenger terminal building at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport."

What an asshole!

And this airport is so small, you can cause a disturbance when you open your bottle of Coke from the vending machine. That said, I happen to have it on good authority that Loy has a competitive game of "Words with Friends" going and was asked to shut it off while going through security.

Loy is one of my top 5 all-time Michigan hoops players. Please, please be jaywalking, public urination in the Grand River, or something relatively benign. This has the potential to crush my soul and cause me to lose my last shred of faith in humanity.

I hope nothing illegal.

for disturbing the peace. You can also be arrested for shooting off fireworks in the middle of the night, playing music too loud, and not keeping your dog from constantly barking. All considered disturbing the peace.
Given airport security these days I don't think it takes much to get arrested for disturbing the peace. Most likely was in a verbal argument.

Some of these TSA agents can be real a-holes. I can easily see one of them pushing a passenger over the line so they get really angry.

I am also a big LV fan, and I hope this is nothing serious. I absolutely loved watching him play back in the day. Seemed like he just did everything well, and never presented any liability to the team, on or off the floor.

I don't remember much of Vaught from his Michigan career, it was a little early for me to remember most of the players from then. My favorite Loy Vaught memory is when the Pistons signed him after a stint with the Clippers and he proclaimed "it's great to be back in the NBA."

that was apparently malik sealy.

Almost positive it was Vaught. I probably don't have the quote exactly right but I'm sure it was Vaught. And I don't know why my memory is working like that, but it is.

the only thing you find if you try to google for attributions to vaught is this page.

Well, there it is then.
Although the neat thing about Google is that if I say it often enough in enough different places, eventually I can get it attributed to Vaught too.

with one of those airport security guards over hugging my mother while in a standing zone (i.e. unloaded the luggage at curbside, said my goodbyes and the cop was being a prick). Those dudes don't have guns or real cop jobs, and like to push people around to feel like big guys. I think he was about to call someone on me for mouthing off, but I drove away...hopefully, it was something just caused by an overzealous dude like that.

Why was the guard hugging your mother? ;)

Im pretty damn sure the only thing that Loy was disturbing in Grand Rapids were the nets... compliments of his silky smooth 16ft baseline jumper.
However, assuming I am incorrect, I have officially lost my desire to live.

Probably just a jealous Michigan State fan who arrested him.
February 15th, 2012 at 9:31 AM ^
He was probably molested by a TSA reject and got upset.
Loy was one of my favorite players on my favorite UM b-ball team of all time. I enjoyed the Fab Five, but they didn't win anything. Glen Rice was my favorite player in UM basketball history, sweetest shooter I have ever seen.

I didn't remember him from his playing days, but in college I worked for a moving company and packed his house up in Grand Rapids. He was a really cool layed back guy for being a semi NBA star. He had just retired at 35 and I remember him saying he was pretty weirded out by that fact and wasn't sure what to do, since he was retiring so young. He also was singing U2 out of key and joking about the fact that his wife had 5 or 6 strollers.

Love how the slappies immediately scramble to downplay the incident, despite an utter lack of evidence.

This sounds like it was some B.S. Did anything ever come of it?
