Love from Rocky Long, post-game:
Brady will win a national championship here. I don't know how long it will take, but he will win one here.http://isportsweb.com/2011/09/24/they-said-after-michigan-footballs-vic…

Smart coach SDSU has, he obviously knows what he's talking about.

and that's at the top of this conference. The kids behind that DL are still relatively young and Greg has done a masterful job in restoring the nastiness that is associated with M football, and no doubt the coaches are recruiting both sides of the ball to get us back on top of our conference.
Nothwithstanding the above, I just find it difficult to think a team outside the SEC is going to have a viable chance to win the whole enchillada unless the rules on procuring players are altered to ensure that all conferences are doing so in a like manner. Even though there are some teams in the TEN that do it, the one and done utilized by Auburn last season isn't going to be duplicated in this league. Inarguably, you had the best offensive player for a season and arguably, he was joined by the best defensive player. Without either one, it would have been AL playing again.
Right now that league just seems to be the equivalent of a triple A farm team to the NFL, and if OU does prove to be the team that lines up against the winner of LSU/Bama this year, they're going to experience what all others have.
Can we be the best in conference again? I think without a doubt. NCs? Not so much if the SEC isn't forced to recruit in the manner of the other major conferences.

Way to piss in the punch bowl captain positive.

Classy thing for Rocky to say. Good luck to SDSU.

if Hoke took time out to visit the SDSU locker room after the game. He's already made his goodbye, so it might be awkward.
September 24th, 2011 at 8:40 PM ^
Hoke also spent time on the field afterward, consoling the players he helped mold into winners — into a team that, on the right day, could triumph at a place such as the Big House.Borges also spent a fair amount of time with Lindley: http://annarbor.com/sports/um-football/michigan-whips-san-diego-state-t…

While the team went to the students, he was out in the field talking to coaches and players from SDS. For quite some time, as I waited to leave the Stadium today.

If Bill Martin had hired Hoke in 06' like he should have, Brady and M would have one NC together already, maybe more.

It gave me goosebumps.

First off Martin hired someone in Winter 0.7 Second I've come around to hoke as much as anyone else but really? He had 6 years of head coaching with ball state, and only two winning season during that. It would be as ridiculous as Auburn hiring Gene Chizik after only 2 year of head coaching with a 5-19 overall record. Now Chizik got lucky having Cam Newton but I still doubt his ability to be an elite head coach. Hoke would have been just as screwed as RR. Maybe he would have faired a bit better in some games but overall the skill on the team was lacking. For example I dont think Nick or Steven would have been even able to run a pro style offense (they lacked an arm/accuracy) and we still didn't have a running back, or a decent oline.

So you're talkin' August of 2000
September 24th, 2011 at 9:16 PM ^
You do realize that a 6'7 gunslinger named Ryan Mallet would've just graduated from Michigan last year if anyone not named Rodriguez was the head coach. And I can assure you he would have led us to more than 15 wins by himself in the last three years (along with the other 62 transfers we had).
September 24th, 2011 at 9:27 PM ^
I don't disagree that if Mallet had stayed we would have won more games. However, I think it far less than a certainty that Mallet stays if anyone other than RR was hired.
September 24th, 2011 at 10:47 PM ^
Yea, Mallet wasn't a for sure thing. Like the rumor spoken that Carr threw transfer papers at him and told him to leave at some point cause he was sick of him. Also what Oline or Running back or Receivers would have helped to these 15 wins.
September 25th, 2011 at 12:29 AM ^
Carr gave transfer papers to Chris Perry, too, and several other players who stuck around. It was one of his pet motivational tactics. It's impossible to know whether Mallett would have stayed or not under a different coach,
September 25th, 2011 at 6:20 AM ^
How is this labeled as flamebait? Carr did tell Perry that it might be in his best interest to transfer and I believe it was Perry's mom that told Chris he needed to stick it out.
