Looks like Hurricane Matthew will not affect the game: still looks horrible for the southeast.

It's actually looking like it will loop around and strike Florida a second time.

Heard that earlier, that has to suck for residents

A state of emergency was just declared
October 6th, 2016 at 4:03 PM ^
Several days ago...
October 6th, 2016 at 5:10 PM ^
for a while now.
My boss?? Nope, he went downt there. On purpose. Yesterday.
October 6th, 2016 at 6:13 PM ^
not the same as the old boss though.
October 6th, 2016 at 3:05 PM ^
in part because of Hurricane Nicole but when it loops it seems (if I am looking at the forecast models correctly) is it will probably miss FL on the loop and head back to the Bahamas as a weaker storm
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fujiwhara_effect
There's some of the science behind the looping.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:23 PM ^
Only as far as the NE is concerned. It's going to cause a shitload of damage to the Florida, Georgia, and SC coast

Oh yeah I see that now. I was just thinking selfishly in terms of the Michigan game, but I wouldn't want to live in southeast Florida right now.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:38 PM ^
"Hey all, while everyone that lives north of Miami and south of Jacksonville is going to die, our football game is still on! WOO HOO!!!"
You, sir, are an insensitive butthole... (Just kidding, I know what you mean...)
October 6th, 2016 at 2:44 PM ^
Yeah I changed it. I've lived near Mobile in the past so I know what hurricanes can do.
October 6th, 2016 at 7:11 PM ^
then, eh?
October 6th, 2016 at 2:41 PM ^
You do realize that people are living this very real issue as we speak, don't you? Those people include my wife, kids, and myself. "Selfish", indeed.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:54 PM ^
Flooding is the business I'm in and hurricanes are something I keep track of. I'll be one of the first people in after the first responders and help people get there lives back together. I hope everyone comes out ok and in good health. This hurricane looks like a monster that will hit a lot of people hard.
I truly hope you and your family are safe and everyone around there stays safe.
October 6th, 2016 at 3:05 PM ^
I'm immensely curious as to what the original title was.
October 6th, 2016 at 5:05 PM ^
I just posted something like "looks like the hurricane will veer off east after all". I apologize. I realize that it was insensitive to those in the hurricane's path. I was obviously just thinking about the Michigan game and not about the bigger picture.

Avatar checks out

Idk why people are downvoting this comment. This is a serious storm impacting millions, and will likely, sadly, result in lost lives. The OP realized the mistake and changed the thread title, but the initial post was insensitive.
October 6th, 2016 at 5:05 PM ^
People are negging the post because our culture is completely insensitive to our neighbors. Sadly, I'm founding out that I associate regularly with people that can find a joke in the situation in Haiti right now.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:26 PM ^
If the eyewall goes 200 miles up the coast instead of making landfall there is going to be massive devastation.
The winds in a Cat 4 storm eyewall will destroy pretty much everything in its path.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:28 PM ^
That's OK. The storm surge from the second, more direct impact will clean up everything that got blown over the first time around.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:43 PM ^
That's....ok. for a UM/UVA fan you're not very smart.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:45 PM ^
...was not so serious)
A friend of mine has a daughter stuck in orlando (no gas) and is going to have to wait out the storm.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:56 PM ^
She'll be fine as long as she has shelter. Orlando may be getting more from this storm than they usually do (I remember living in Orlando in 92 and my parents thinking we would actually get hit by Andrew) but deaths in hurricanes are usually idiots who think it'd be fun to go surfing in those waves or love their boat too much to leave it.
October 6th, 2016 at 3:00 PM ^
(Katrina exceptions when an entire city ends up underwater with terrible preparation or ability to rescue anyone in place apply.)
October 6th, 2016 at 2:35 PM ^
Check out some of the pictures from Cuba and Haiti. The damage is mind blowing. Massive boulders just strewn everywhere, and I'm talking rocks the size of a VW. Concrete homes demolished, massive flooding, if this thing doesn't weaken before it hits FL things will be bad down there.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:43 PM ^
It looks bad. They are saying that it will most destructive storm since Sandy.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:46 PM ^
Its Haiti and Cuba, how can you tell thats recent damage ?
October 6th, 2016 at 2:53 PM ^
I think it's too soon.
It's a terrible human tragedy, especially in Haiti which doesn't have its shit together (to your point) in the best of times.
While the storm ravaged both islands, the trouble in Haiti is just starting. We saw the lingering effects of the earthquake there a few years back - this could be just as bad, or worse.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:59 PM ^
should really just pack it in and move somewhere else.
There's only 10 million people. We should give them Ohio.
October 6th, 2016 at 4:38 PM ^
Haven't they suffered enough?
October 6th, 2016 at 4:43 PM ^
The 2010 earthquake killed 160,000 people in Haiti (per the U-M study). This hurricane's impact, while pretty bad by normal standards, isn't apocalyptically bad like that.
October 6th, 2016 at 3:00 PM ^
Homes and lives ruined, or lost. I don't see the humor.
October 6th, 2016 at 3:29 PM ^
Hundreds of people have probably died, thousands of homes will have been destroyed and the countries ability to treat deseases such as cholera will be wiped out right when they were turning the corner on effectiveness. Solid joke.
October 6th, 2016 at 5:52 PM ^
A worry is that if the eye stays very close to the coast without completely crossing onto land, it could do damage for a much longer distance due to being able to stay "charged" by the warm water it needs to maintain its energy. The only break here is that the east side of the eyewall, which has the worst winds, doesn't come ashore in this scenario.
Duluth got a brief glimpse of those kinds of winds when a storm with a 90-100 mph downburst bombed us for about 15 minutes. The worst of it, with the 100 mph winds, was concentrated over just a couple of miles in town.
It snapped many hundreds of old, huge trees like twigs and knocked power out (including mine) for a week. And that was a few minutes and a few miles of space. I can picture the scene down their just a fraction better now.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:27 PM ^
Good news for the game, which now looks like it will have nothing more than some passing showers. Hope everyon in FL/GA/SC stays safe. This storm looks like a monster.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:29 PM ^
harbaugh >>>> ditka >>>> hurricane matthew >>>> rutgers
hopefully the islands and florida don't get wacked too bad. i've been in a couple in years past.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:34 PM ^
ahhh. the Hurricane's name is Ditka.
October 6th, 2016 at 3:39 PM ^
you floridians and carolinians take cover.
so many hurricanes end up being nothing more than a nuisance and the non-frozen version of a snow day, but matthew is going way past that.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:30 PM ^
Jeez when I saw the title I thought "wow that changed rather quickly." Especially since hundreds of thousands if not millions have already left their homes and shut down their businesses.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:30 PM ^
Some models having it doing a full loop and coming back again next week for round two. Would be so bad.

It'll likely be a mere tropical depression at that point.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:41 PM ^
I never understood that...who in the hell is depressed when they're in the tropics???
October 6th, 2016 at 2:47 PM ^
Buffet. Some people say there's a woman to blame...
October 6th, 2016 at 2:55 PM ^
But he knows it's his own damn fault.
October 6th, 2016 at 9:33 PM ^
had to limp on back home...
October 6th, 2016 at 4:12 PM ^
Always a woman to blame when it comes to depression.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:37 PM ^
Only as a tropical wave. The ridge will have progressed and increased shear would cause the cyclone to significantly weaken.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:32 PM ^
We're not talking about the chance of it coming back for another round! just hoping to get thru the first go here in Delray Beach.
October 6th, 2016 at 2:35 PM ^
Starting to get real dicey right now here in Palm City... Be safe
