Flooding is the business I'm in and hurricanes are something I keep track of. I'll be one of the first people in after the first responders and help people get there lives back together. I hope everyone comes out ok and in good health. This hurricane looks like a monster that will hit a lot of people hard.

I truly hope you and your family are safe and everyone around there stays safe.

I just posted something like "looks like the hurricane will veer off east after all". I apologize. I realize that it was insensitive to those in the hurricane's path. I was obviously just thinking about the Michigan game and not about the bigger picture.

If the eyewall goes 200 miles up the coast instead of making landfall there is going to be massive devastation.

The winds in a Cat 4 storm eyewall will destroy pretty much everything in its path.

She'll be fine as long as she has shelter. Orlando may be getting more from this storm than they usually do (I remember living in Orlando in 92 and my parents thinking we would actually get hit by Andrew) but deaths in hurricanes are usually idiots who think it'd be fun to go surfing in those waves or love their boat too much to leave it.

I think it's too soon.

It's a terrible human tragedy, especially in Haiti which doesn't have its shit together (to your point) in the best of times.

While the storm ravaged both islands, the trouble in Haiti is just starting.  We saw the lingering effects of the earthquake there a few years back - this could be just as bad, or worse.

A worry is that if the eye stays very close to the coast without completely crossing onto land, it could do damage for a much longer distance due to being able to stay "charged" by the warm water it needs to maintain its energy. The only break here is that the east side of the eyewall, which has the worst winds, doesn't come ashore in this scenario.

Duluth got a brief glimpse of those kinds of winds when a storm with a 90-100 mph downburst bombed us for about 15 minutes. The worst of it, with the 100 mph winds, was concentrated over just a couple of miles in town.

It snapped many hundreds of old, huge trees like twigs and knocked power out (including mine) for a week. And that was a few minutes and a few miles of space. I can picture the scene down their just a fraction better now.

Good news for the game, which now looks like it will have nothing more than some passing showers. Hope everyon in FL/GA/SC stays safe. This storm looks like a monster.

Jeez when I saw the title I thought "wow that changed rather quickly." Especially since hundreds of thousands if not millions have already left their homes and shut down their businesses.
