Looking Ahead the Brighter Side

Submitted by Fhshockey112002 on

Ok, I know its very very early, but not losing anyone from this team we all know there is huge potential.  The question I am looking to get answered is what are the key factors to making a jump next season, either to challenge for B1G champs and making a solid tourney run.

At first glance, here are my keys:

1.) Evan Smotrycz gains 10-15 lbs and becomes a starter.  I love what this kid brings to the floor, but he has to put on some weight to handle himself inside on the D side of the ball.

2.) Center position, there needs to be development in this area to establish an interior presence and get a team in some sort of foul trouble.

3.) D-Morris continues to develop a jump shot.  Great distributer of the ball, and great getting to the rim, but really struggles even with open looks.

I am so pumped for Michigan basketball's future I couldn't wait to put this up.

I see a 2012 Senior Day, where we're debating if MICH could still be a 2-seed, and rousing minute-long standing ovations for Stu and Zack throughout the night

From being mocked when they got here, they have a chance to be key cogs on three NCAA Tournament teams and the team that puts the program back into national relevance.

In the mid- to long-term, will THJ stay for 2, 3, or 4 years before he goes pro?  It would be nice if he stays another three years, but two would be awesome as well.

"Bless you boys".  What a unexpected surprise this season turned out to be.  Looking forward to the next few years.  What impressed me so much was that these kids put in a tremendous  effort to comeback from 15 down against one of the best teams in the country.

Anyone scared about 2012?  Obviously its early and I'm excited for next year, but...Zack and Stu gone, and out of Morris, Hardaway and Morgan I'd be surprised if more than one of them stays, possible all three leave.  Even with the guys we're bringing in, unless we recruit great next year I'm a little worried

Practices are going to be awesome next season, with the current starters going against a deep experienced young talented bench.

Morris vs Burke

Stu  vs Brundidge

Hardaway vs Vogrich

Novak vs Smotrycz

Morgan vs Horford/Mclimans

X factor will be Christian's improvement and lord knows Belien's players  do improve

My view is we're a power forrward away from contending for the national championship. Yes I said it. It is painfully obvious that this team in undersized and the Duke's of this world can push us around and easily exploit this weakness. As wonderful as today's game was to watch we came very close to getting blown out half way through the second half.

As things stand we don't have any size or girth coming in this 2011 recruting class (even Biefeldt, if we get him, won't have the impact we're looking for). Thus we have to look to Horford, McLimas, and Smotrycz for improvement. If these guys can add another 20 pounds of muscle each we may just have enough...Get to work young men.
