Happy to hear this, enrolling early will be great for him not just for the s&c but the sooner this kid gets proper Oline coaching the better.  I think he ends up a beast here and is the next great LT after long and Lewan.

99% of the time O-Linemen redshirt their first year.  Is there really an advantage for them to enroll early?

He will probably still redshirt, but it gives him that much more of an advantage after that.  Getting in early for those spring practices and summer workouts is huge, like really, really huge, regardless of position or how likely they are to redshirt.

I don't think you have to EE to participate in the summer workouts.  I'm sure the extra Spring Practices help but I don't really see much of a difference in the long run.  Then again what the hell do I know.

In his last presser Mattison said he would love to have all the freshmen enroll early so he could get that much more time with them.  Maybe it doesn't make a difference if you have a lot of depth and they won't see the field for 2 years anyway, but we don't really have that.  A lot of positions are wide open, and with extra practice LTT could move ahead of the other members of his ridiculous OL class for playing time.

"Michigan Defense" is dominating everything, in every aspect of life. That's a rough definition.

You don't have to EE to participate in summer workouts, but usually the non-EE guys don't get there until the beginning on July, based on when they can move into the dorms.  At that point, you get about one month to participate in whatever you can before fall camp starts.  That's not a lot of time.

Compate that to getting to campus the first week of January, and starting with the S&C program then.  By the time your classmates show up in July, you have 6 months of college workouts, all of spring practice with the coaches, and all of the summer workouts.

For the first half of July when the rest of the freshmen are acclimating to college practices, the coaching staff, being away from home, and figuring out how to get around campus, you're full speed as if you're a sophomore.  It's a big advantage.

It has two primary benefits.  You have the ability to acclimated to going to Michigan without having to deal with football at the same time and you get that extra time in a college strength and conditioning program.  The extra 15 practices are just an added bonus.

Considering there will be the possibility of Taylor leaving after next season getting a LT prospect on campus early is a good thing.

From a talent perspective I can definitely see why people continue to mention Lewan as a potential early exit to the NFL, but I haven't heard anything from him on that subject and at least the most recent history shows that our top lineman (i.e. Jake Long) stayed to play all four years.

Long was with the program from the 2003 season through the 2007 season and he was a better player than Lewan (no disrespect meant... this is Jake Long we're talking about here). To go along with that, the emphasis this program places on "playing for the seniors" would lead me to believe that a guy like Lewan would want to stick around for his senior year just to be a part of that whole experience.

All I'm saying is that, while he has the talent to leave early, there is nothing that says he will for sure and there seems like plenty of evidence to suggest that he would want to stay.

I don't know, just my opinion I guess.  Not trying to ruffle any feathers.

It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine

EE gives him more time to do so right, plus access to the mich strength & conditioning facilities?

It could be for academic purposes.  He would have the chance to experience college courses without having to practice for a few weeks.  I imagine non EE have a lot to adjust to at one time and that enrolling in January would help ease the transition.
