My boyfriend's great-aunt died three weeks ago and we have to travel to Missouri so he can choose one of her cats to bring home.  He really needs my support at this time.  I will be back in two weeks and will slip my paper under your office door.  Thanks for your understand.

Amazingly, in my 10 years of teaching undergraduates, about 80% of grandparents that have died have passed on either just before the midterm or just before the final. Strange coincidences.

While GSI'ing at UM, one of my colleagues busted a student who had been using a dead sister as an excuse the entire semester.

She had been handing things in late all semester, using the emotional trauma of her family tragedy as her excuse. At the end of the semester, she creatively managed to plagarize the blue book final (one problem with students bringing their own blue books when they have the questions in advance) but had been found out through a simple google search. So F in the class, referral to the dean's office for academic sanctions, etc.

Parents, outraged, call the professor, and she says, "We're positive she plagarized the final, but I can kind of understand, given the tragedy your family has been through."

"Um, excuse me. What tragedy?"

End of parental objection.

When I moved south, my next door neighbor introduced me to her boyfriend.  He was also her step-brother.  When I enquired further I found out that they had been dating for five years.  Her mother was widowed and, when his father divorced, their parents got together.  They had been dated for two years when his father began dating her mother.  The parents married after they had been together for three years.  So they became step-siblings three years into their relationship.  What sucked for them is they eventually broke up, but of course, continued to be step-siblings.

That's University of Mississippi versus Mississippi State game or Egg Bowl this year in Oxford, MS.  Swore I saw Lloyd Brady there in an MSU sweatshirt!

Obviously, Lloyd Brady was spying on the coeds at Mississippi State University disguised in proper undercover apparel,  just as he has been known to do the same thing at another MSU (Michigan State University) scouting their coeds as well!

We Michigan student and alumni nerds always go undercover at other schools in search of hot coeds......Sneaky aren't we!
