Lloyd Brady Gator Bowl Sighting (with picture!)

Submitted by MaizeHornet on

So now that the ban on posting seems to have been lifted, I can finally post my picture of Lloyd Brady at the Gator Bowl.

Here's the quick story: I was at the pep rally on New Year's Eve at the Jacksonville Landing at a sandwich shop.  I look behind me and it's none other than Lloyd Brady himself.  I couldn't pass up the opportunity.  Needless to say it was the best moment of my Gator Bowl trip.

Please pos-bang it like it's hot, I need some comfort after enduring cowbells and heartbreak

Lloyd's mom was e-mailing him, pleading him to stop with the LB mania.

Maybe she's finally come around to accept the inevitable fame, and lifestyle that goes with it.

Your point total should take a rather large leap with this awesome post. Thus leading to hopefully more awesome posts by you.

EDIT: Wait what's his name????????????

EDIT EDIT: Real name. On birth certificate. If it is actually Lloyd Brady I don't know what I'd do.

I might be really, really stupid... but I thought that was his real name haha. I guess I forgot that the original reason he got MGoFamous was because of his likeness to Tom Brady and his awesome name. I didn't even consider that it was actually an invented portmanteau of sorts, I just thought it was a hilarious coincidence...

Darn it, I am really stupid aren't I?

The only question I'd like to ask Lloyd Brady is, "How do you manage to get front row seats to every Home and Away sporting event?"

Lloyd Brady has a Saginaw shirt on!! Sag-Nasty is well represented.  I am from Saginaw and I now have a new found respect for Lloyd Brady.  He truly is the man!  I think we should put him out on the recruiting trail to see what he can do..

That is the first thing I noticed too.  If Lloyd Brday is from Saginaw, I wonder if he will come to my son's birthday party in March.  Anyone with connections, please get me some info on how much that costs, and what his show entails.

I was ready to be all like "stop stalking this guy!" when I saw your title. But this is actually really cool. Glad to see he was a good sport about the whole thing, too. Seems like a good dude.

there's an opportunity? i mean, i figure if i say this enough, brian might actually notice and rethink blog governance.

now that the ban on posting seems to have been lifted

the post-loss lockdown policy is ridiculous.  it keeps content like this from getting to the site when people are coming together to interact with other disappointed fans, just when everybody can use a pick-me-up. is it really that hard for mods to vet threads as they're created instead of just adopting blanket restrictions?

edit: also, in case it wasn't clear, the OP got my +1 for this. great, community-building stuff.

I definitely think it is necessary. Nobody wants six thousand threads started about the loss or a bunch of random people creating usernames to troll. Also, it isn't like the restrictions are outrageous. 100 to post in a thread and 500 to start one. A gem like this would be the exception to lifting the ban, not the norm

seems to me there are plenty of better intermediate options, e.g., allowing anybody to start a thread but requiring mod approval for it to actually appear, maybe in conjunction with point thresholds where things can be automatic. i gather from what brian's said that the mods just don't want to deal with the extra work, but that seems like a mistake about who the blog is for. it's possible that the kind of intermediate option i have in mind isn't possible given whatever moderating options are actually available, but throwing the baby out with the bath water has gotta be suboptimal, right?

i feel like i can't be alone, but what about the random user that posts once in a while/ isn't a lifetime mgoblogger? There seems to have been plenty of trolling despite the ban over the last couple of days, which seems more likely to drive the casual reader (like me) away, then 6000 CC posts. What really is the difference between 6000 and 6 if there is 7000 and 7 posts in each possibility?

Sorry to be frank, but it's not suboptimal. The ban is extremely short, and is temporary. I would totally agree with you if it were impossible to post without the right number of points ALL the time. However, it's just in FREAKOUT MODE situations, so it's not a huge deal, and it's really necessary that they lock down the site when it gets that way. It's gotten bad before, and would again.

If someone really wants to have the ability to post a thread after a big loss/during lockdown mode, and thinks they will be well-received and coherent, they have the opportunity to post enough to gain points in the time prior. There are plenty of people who legitimately want to post, and aren't trolling, who haven't done so very often and will naturally not know the protocol and may be received poorly due to lack of knowledge, e.g. off-topic posts, things that have already been discussed, making diaries instead of posts, posting board topics that should just be comments on other topics, etc.

Someone that has posted a lot and been around a while will know the "rules" well enough, and I think that's a good reason to have "trusted users". Of course, there are outliers who "lurk" (sorry for all the scare quotes), meaning they read but rarely post or haven't signed up for a username. These people are not necessarily going to troll or even be ignorant of the rules, but that's the price to pay for lurking, because there's not really a legitimate way to prevent trolls that doesn't exclude somebody.

tl;dr: mods don't need that workload after a heartwrenching loss, and since that's really the only time this policy is implemented, it's not in need of a change.

P.S.: anyone who thinks they might want to post in the next week might want to gain trusted status, since any actual CC news/announcement is going to inevitably precede another lockdown.

The only problem with this, is as you specifically point out for next week, you need to post a lot in the one week to get "trusted" status. As such it almost forces trolling if you want to try to boost your Mgopoints to a level where you can post/start threads. The greater problem is that having to go through CC makes everything suboptimal. Saying it is not suboptimal seems to be an exaggeration.

I saw him at the Alumni tailgate Saturday morning and would've asked for a picture had his parents not been with him.  Instead I just snuck a picture with my phone for personal use.
