Brian has the cool Auburn scoreboard up on the main page featuring the cool live war eagle mascot of Auburn. So, how about a cool live wolverine mascot prowling the Michigan sidelines? Somewhere, somehow, someone must have raised a, relatively, tame wolverine from birth. If that person could make his or her pet available for home game visits, I'm all for it. What say you?
Somehow this sounds exactly like an idea your avatar picture would've had. I read the entire paragraph in his voice in my head.
As long as our defense plays like rabid wolverines, I could care less about a mascot.
I'd be happy with just an ill-tempered wolverine...
Hugh Jackman (though this is clearly not him) is in Detroit filming a movie right now. Maybe he can stop by.
In all sincerity....its been tried.....read for your education http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biff,_the_Michigan_Wolverine
This is bound to get awesome.
They tried...they were too vicious for the stadium. They won't try it again.
The football team should try to bring a wolverine with them on the road. Then, if the dangerous wolverine accidentally escapes into South Bend or the Shoe it won't really be too much of a concern.
Accidentally being the key word there. Have the AD sign a waiver cleverly disguised as some other form, allowing Michigan to be free of any liabilities from damage caused by said Wolverine.
bring myself to tell the OP so many things in my head right now... Momma always said not to say anything if you can't say something nice...
that's the beauty of the down arrow. silent, always-available judgment with no explanation or hurt feelings necessary.
We had two of them in 1927, named Bennie and Biff. They didn't take well to being caged, and they were eventually given to the Detroit Zoo.
This just goes to show how awesome the wolverine really is. It can't be tamed. It will always be a wild, vicious predator, ready to destroy Buckeyes, Spartans and Irish in its path.
We used to have two, I've always liked the idea of bringing them back, the only problem is that Wolverines aren't native to Michigan, they have to be brought in from places like Alaska
And I promise not to eviscerate anyone until the third quarter.
They actually used to do this:
I assume they stopped because Wolverines aren't exactly the nicest of animals.
Also, due to their eating habits, they are foul. I wouldn't want to be down wind of one. They are referred to by native tribes as the "skunk-bear".
Why stop at tame? His cartoon/logo image could be an Alvin/Chipmunks knockoff and he could do lots of insanely sugary/sweet/cudlly things in mini-cartoons on the videoboard that makes us go "Ahhhhh!!!! He's so cute!".
No thank you.
Clearly you've forgotten the efforts in the 1980's to create the Willy the Wolverine mascot. He looks basically as you described.
Fielding Yost, on why Michigan stopped using live mascots:
"It was obvious that the Michigan mascots had designs on the Michigan men toting them, and those designs were by no means friendly."
Lets get new live Wolverines and put them in front of the visitor's locker room like LSU does with Mike the Tiger!
Ever notice every other college team down south is named "_____ Tigers" ? It's like they flip a coin when deciding on a school mascot down there. "Heads , it's Tigers / Tails, "it's somethin else then".
And most of the rest are "Wildcats."
