ND is lucky they played us early in the season, before the defense got fully up to speed with the 4-3 and Borges decided to play to Denard's strengths.

"I remember when we used to beat them". I think he means their little 4 year run in the late 80s. Ever since then, they have only beat Michigan in consecutive years once.

And those weren't even close to the ass whippings Michigan has been giving them the past decade. Two 38-0 wins in 2003 & 2007, and currently 3 straight wins. 5 out of the last 6 too.

It's Great To Be A Michigan Wolverine.

"The worst part is, our players have the same mindset as our fanbase. As soon as one thing goes wrong, there's a belief everything will go wrong. Nobody can keep their head and bounce back from adversity. It's that cliche "here we go again" feeling and mindset."

I can remember when that was exactly how team after team and fanbase after fanbase felt after falling to "The Luck of the Irish."  Ever since "Under the Tarnished Dome" neutralized Lou Holtz, the Irish have done nothing right.  The only reason they beat Michigan for a few years was because they had Greg Mattison decoding the Carr offense for them.

Basically, ND is now doing to themselves what they used to do to opponents.

I've got to agree with WolverineHistorian here.  I remember ND having a huge number of bandwagon fans in the late '80s/early '90s and they couldn't be more obnoxious.  This started up a bit in Weis's first two seasons but then it died down again.

ND fans now have been humbled.  They're much easier to deal with at the moment.  (If one ever is annoying, just remind him of the score of the last three meetings.)

Great find.  I remember that - ND fans were convinced football came down to nothing but playcalling, like it was a video game.

I searched a little on that site and found this beauty after the 47-21 ass-kicking:

http://bluegraysky.blogspot.com/2006/09/on-bad-side-of-whipping.html

I love the guy who claims that it was "really a 23-21 game" if you take away, you know, 24 Michigan points.

Here's another classic:

One of the few postives to take away from the Michigan game weekend/debacle was the verbal commitment of South Carolina cornerback Gary Gray.

This was the most amazing sports moment in my life.  To feel as I did toward the middle of the 3rd quarter, best described as OH BOY!  Then to have the drive that was moved to our endzone once the 3rd quarter ended, finish gloriusly.  Following that with the unbelivalby emotional and frustrating roller coaster ride for the entire 4th quarter, is still to this day hard to explain to people other than just to say, OH BOY!

That was by far my favorite read of the entire forum..how you can have so little faith in your team is beyond me..granted, I was in the student section with very little hope, I knew somehow Denard was gonna do it..by far the best atmosphere I've ever been apart of..that and the win this year vs Ohio

I could read that ND Nation thread every day for the rest of my life and not get tired of it. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

nothing beats this phenomenal diary of the game by an ND homer.

Don't just skip to the end, the whole thing is just delicious.  But when you do get to the end, don't forget to read the comments, esp. the first one.

I'm actually dreading the season ... as in, I don't want it to arrive.

I've begun to fear the inevitable disappointment, the frustration of those horrible conversations after a game with family and friends. I'd love to be able to hide under the veil of apathy, to be truly numb to what happens on those glorious fall Saturdays. Deep down I know it's the sadness I fear, that with each passing year the stake is driven further into the heart of Notre Dame Football and the realization that we're never coming back.

So no thank you fall . . . you can just take your good old sweet time getting here, I no longer desire you. The summer is too wonderful a time for these painful thoughts - I'd much rather push them to the back of my mind, grab an alcohlic beverage and toast the inventor of sundresses and skirts."

I will agree with the very last sentiment, though.
