I can't figure this out. I am trying to post a diary but none of the usual formatting options are there and when I save what I have written it all comes out as one long paragraph. Can anybody tell me what the problem is?

Type it up in word or notepad, open every paragraph with
and close them with
. When you go to post your diary, paste it under the plain editor and not the rich editor. Switch back to the rich editor and make sure it looks alright. If you click save or preview in the plain editor, I find you might have to repaste and hit save/preview a second time as it undoes the changes. Really annoying when it does that.
This has me totally confused. I can follow what you are saying up until the rich editor and plain editor. How do I switch between these?
Usually the interface is so user friendly even a computer flunky like me can figure it out. This time the whole thing looked different. Does this mean I was looking at the wrong 'editor'?
One second, getting you a screen grab
Click on the button in that screen grab to switch to the plain editor. You'll know you're there because the little bar at the top disappears. You can see how it gets typed in below.
Once you've got that done, you should be able to switch back to the helpful editor by hitting that same button you hit earlier. From there you can do your normal bold/italics/etc.
Thanks for the helpful images, but there is no "switch to... button on my screen. There is just the text window and then the bullet about "Tables will be..." :~( I have no bar across the top for Bold Italics Picture Add, etc. I guess something is set wrong in Firefox or my computer or what?
I'm not sure, but perhaps you're already in the plain editor and you should just put in the p & /p tags there. Email Brian if you still can't get it.
1. Don't post yet if you're so focused on format.
2. Make your debut one concise paragraph so the formatting doesn't matter.
Generally speaking, many diaries read like the stream-of-consciousness ramblings of a high schooler trying to come up with 10 pages on "Moby Dick."
"I did not have time to write you a short letter, so I wrote you a long one instead."
---(S. Johnson/M. Twain/B. Pascal, take your pick)
I have posted many diaries, thank you. Maybe you should give them a read and get a clue.
