Lions vs Steelers
Watch as the amazing Lamar Woodley knifes through our offensive line like substance. Marvel as Mat Stafford is destroyed by a series of brutal blitz packages, thus ensuring we have to draft a new QB within 5 years because the current one is dead/broken/in a coma.
Get your hopes up when Calvin Johnson or House of Spears does something amazing. Feel hopeful for a few minutes until Johnson's catch is called back by a hold or the Steelers convert on 3 and 19 because the secondary is crap.
Bet on which member of the Lions organization will be busted for DUI in a fast food drive through next.
Listen to in studio commentary by Matt Millen and ask yourself yet again "How does this man keep finding work?"
At the end of the day, walk away suddenly optimistic about Michigan football, because "Hey it could be worse."
Seriously though the Lions have actually made some decent personnel moves and I'm excited to see this game. Plus I miss football, I watched at Hall of Fame game the same way a crack addict eyes an 8 ball. I need it man. I can't quite get my hopes up though, as the Lions excel at underachieving.
So what are you guys looking to see in the 1st quarter when the 1st stringers are in? I'm hoping for:
1. Creation of a pocket for Stafford to throw from.
2. 3.3 yards per carry on the run game.
3. Suh to renact the bathroom scene from Midgeville, Georgia. With Big Ben playing the roll of the college girl.

it was terrible...
but it was football!

Jahvid Best break off a few nice runs.

I like Best's breakaway potential (assuming he ever has a hole to break through), but I also like Kevin Smith a LOT. Smith has a north-south mentality...picks his spot and hits it. In any case, great to have what should be two very serviceable guys back there. With our O-line, we need depth!!

I was reading earlier today, and it seemed to acknowledge Bests' ability to catch and run with it. He was also playing in Slot WR.

It's the first football game of the year with a team I care about, and this Tigers collapse has been painful. Never been so excited for a preseason game.
August 12th, 2010 at 10:23 AM ^
Is this going to be televised? NFL.com and Fox Sports Detroit still don't list it.
August 12th, 2010 at 10:31 AM ^
The lions website says it's going to be on CBS.
August 12th, 2010 at 10:32 AM ^
Well locally:
WWJ-TV, Detroit CBS is listed as having it. Or so the Lions website claims.
Edit: 60 seconds too slow.

Bummer. NFL Network is supposed to replay all of them eventually, but there is no set schedule.
August 12th, 2010 at 1:51 PM ^
The NFL network replay will be Sunday morning (I think around 11 am?). They do have a schedule posted for all preseason games.
The Cleveland game (game 3) will be live on NFL network.

I am really excited for this game, but I'm seriously disappointed by the Tigers season. The injuries really screwed things up. And I hate thinking "Just wait 'til next year." I've been thinking that way too often about my favorite teams. It makes me feel like an MSU fan.

I just want to practice my religion: Calvinism.
August 12th, 2010 at 10:46 AM ^
I'm actually really excited for a pre season game. What I want to see is the offensive line somewhat handle the Steelers crazy blitz packages and Calvin and Jahvid Best go out their and do their thing.

and that is everyone getting out of these four games HEALTHY. That is all im asking for. I think the Lions have a chance to be solid this year, but they do not have the depth to shake off many injuries. It would figure that once things start to look like they are turning around that a couple of Lions would blow knees out. Lets be honest though, aren't the Lions due for some good luck?

to see ZERO injuries whatsoever...I'm curious to see how well Jahvid Best can block, or if they will have him in there blocking at all. I think our offense is becoming a serious threat with the young talent that has been infused, and our d-line is certainly immensely upgraded. I think our runningbacks, if both are healthy, can be a poor man's Chris Johnson/LenDale White combo...although I would much rather have Kevin Smith than LenDale. None the less, I can't wait for football games to get started...It's been far too long.

With Big Ben playing the roll of the college girl.
He's suspended, no?
August 12th, 2010 at 1:30 PM ^
But Ihe has been practicing with the team i and I think he is eligble to play in the preseason.
Hopefully if he plays, he gets his teeth knocked out.
August 12th, 2010 at 1:35 PM ^
This is preseason. That means the Lions are going to win.

You guys know that in the preseason both teams tend to have an agreement to not blitz? They rarely send more than 4 rushers (if ever). There's other things too; for instance, no chop blocking. Preseason football is almost closer to professional flag football than it is to the real season.
Still, I'm looking forward to see some missed blocks and dropped passes.
