Lions/ Niners Open Thread
I'm definitely ready for this game.. Go Lions!
Both coaches are angry. angry men.
Has been a weird day, with the Ravens, Pats, Cowboys losing, and the Giants barely hanging on for dear life against a bad TB team.
49ers may be the best team in the NFC....
Are they really?
In the meantime, NBC just showed Jets-Steelers highlights, and I will say that it is great to see the Jets finally use Tebow and show fans show people how you earn that starting halfback job.
I hope Schwartz and Harbaugh planned a Cabrera-Fielder style secret handshake for after the game.
I benched my 49ers defense because of the lions offense, but I'm starting to regret that move.
Stafford and Detroit's D..Let's see how it goes..
In favor of the Cowboys defense. :(
It was a good idea in theory.
In order for the Lions to win Stafford needs to play like an All-Pro and our defense (particularly the d line) needs to play very stout. I don't see it happening, I say 24-17 Niners.
lions should win this game because they have more firepower on offense. It's up to Lions DL to play like they did last week.
God, Faith Hill is disgusting.
He was being sarcastic
Even giving a chance to the lions? Any given Sunday
If someone could post a stream I would greatly appreciate it!!!
That's an interesting play (toss out of the gun). Must tired of watching the DE's come crashing down to the passer every play.
I love the Lions just because they are Michigans' pro team but I have the go with the Michigan Man! Go Niners. 49ers and Patriots in the Superbowl. Lock it!
I loved Harbaugh until last year. Now I despise him. Doubly.
Each team had a Wolverine directly followed by a player from Ohio.
Mario Manningham, love it!
I've seen this crap before.
And delay of game...
Niners film room earlier this week
"Wait.... is that a white guy in the secondary? Yeah Alex, you're throwing it over his head every play."
Wendling needs to figure his shit out. Or he is going to get eaten alive by Davis.
This could be a blowout, our defense is not good, not good at all.
It's rediculous how much time Delmas spends on the injury list. Every fucking year our weakness is the secondary and management half-asses fixing it every time.
Watching the Ravens/Eagles game was just sickening. Brandon Boykin was a beast coming into the draft, yet we never went to get him. I can't imagine how anyone who saw the Capital One bowl could pass on him.
Even when he's "healthy" he is not a very good safety. He never makes a play, I can't remember the last time he had an interception or a ff/fr.
He's gonna need to throw it 50 times tonight. Forget trying to run the ball.
I'm not a Payton Manning fan, but I've been rooting for the Broncos since I was a kid.
Cool story bro
This game is going to get ugly quick if they don't change the playcalling.
chill...6 minutes into the game
first first down!
Go Blue, but, yeah...
Lions got lucky.
Are you a Lions fan...fucking pessimist.
Throw to Calvin. Repeat.
Our OL is pathetic at run blocking
Give the Niners some credit they have something to do with it too.
wow...got 3 more...dissapointing 3, but 3 nonetheless
Not a huge NFL fan. Or any pro sports for that matter. Michigan is where all my fandom is placed. That said, when choosing who to root for, I usually go for whatever team has more Michigan guys on them.
Backus vs Goodwin, Manningham & Harbaugh.
Among Hanson's NFL achievements....
- most FGs from 50 or more yards in a career
- most FGs from 50 or more yards in a season
- Socred more than 200 points as a PK against three teams
- More than 2,000 points in his career.
Undeniably prolific as kickers go.
While we are at it what is the predictions of this Saturday matchup? Mine is 24-21 us. Late Gibbons FG.
This is the Lions vs. 49ers game thread
for Hanson, geez. Come on Stafford , Passing TD are always nice.
So far the Niners must be happy with our game plan. Best run defense in the NFL not really gonna be tested by our line and backs, I'd imagine. Hey, 3rd and 8 again.
that was awful. what was the dt thinking?
"It's amazing that they keep hitting the Lions on the trap."
It's standard practice for our down lineman to ignore their read keys.
4th and short! Nice stop d!
That's what she said
But I'm glad JBL is back on commentary.
they settled down a bit. nice to see. hopefully they can get some more points here.
What the hell was that?
WTF! You're killing me Stafford..
Where the fuck was Stafford throwing that!?
He has not had a good start to the 12' season.
That looked more like a throw by Carlos Guillen.
Interception aside, Dashon Golson did tackle himself, so the Lions do have that going for them right now. Keeping them to an FG would keep things quite manageable at least.
Ball didn't pass the line of scrimmage.... that should be grounding.
There was a receiver there..the ref pointed him out...Running into the kicker! Where is your head?
This is going to be an ass whipping. I have seen this crap for too long to expect anything else.
Look I didnt have much hopes for this game either, but you truly are the most pessimistic person on this board. Try and attempt to watch this game without spewing negativity for 2 1/2 hours.
They made playoffs last year ya rahtard.
Not exactly doing work.
END OF THE QUARTER!!! Replacement refs suck
There never should have been a play!!!!! Time ran out on the quarter.
are fucking awful....
the ball and the Niners still get to run a play.
D line would be ok if our secondary wasn't a dumpster fire
D line would be ok if our secondary wasn't a dumpster fire
And a bad PI call. Wow these refs are bad
Missed grounding call results in a first down after the running into the kicker, then a pass interference call on a play that shouldn't have been run seeing as the clock ran out in the quarter. Pay the damn NFL refs already, these replacement refs are jokes.
Better review that play... the quarter was clearly over.
by at least a second.
Evidently, being so busy blaming the refs, you've failed to see that the real problem is that the lions have absolutely shit themselves. Totally outclassed so far.
The Lions' refs haven't been stellar, but did anyone see the Rams-Skins game? They were horrendous. Even the announcers said it was an embarrassment to the league.
Will say, I think Schwartz is going to kill one of these refs before the night is over. That last play probably shouldn't have counted, and some of these calls are just infuriating. There's a reason these guys are not the usual refs.
I would buy a ticket to see that.
I recognize there have been some injuries. But it's obscene that the lions' defensive backfield remains every bit as bush-league as it did three years ago. That they keep drafting receivers is absurd.
Broyles at CB.
Step into a throw.
It was a terrible throw.
If the pass is too high for Megatron then it's definitely way too high.
That is the equivalent of saying you overthrew Tacopants
That was on Stafford. Easy 1st down if he throws a catchable ball.
Stafford looks hideous so far. What's he doing out there?
I will say SF is a great tackling team
Looks like Stafford has the yips- he doesn't look very comfortable out there
I Gotta hit my bowl.. =}-~
Is GERG coaching the Lions D?
No, Gunther Cunningham...his Wide 9 is almost as effective as the 3-3-5 GERG ran lol
He seemingly cannot figure out how to stop that trap that they keep hitting the Lions with.
He gets wrecked every time on that play.
Wow a rushing first down!
This best player available bullshit. It's a joke we have needs draft them u bunch of assholes and we could b good
Some solids rushes this drive, line is actually getting a push!
They consistently have been blocked the entire game.
A Michigan Man was President.
to see a better second half for the Lions. (PLEASE)
We've never had a running game minus sims and sanders and the secondary has always sucked! I'm actually surprised the offensive line is giving stafford a decent amount of time but he seems to have forgotten how to throw the ball. ugghh same old lions man
4th qtr team with Stafford. Without J Best it has to be that way.
Can't keep Snyder from Hollywood.
Stafford get your head out of your ass!!!
Lions D-line is getting thrashed. Good 'ol fashioned power running by the Niners.
Jim's got this team playing michigan football
bell channeling his inner mike cox
This is awful play calling by the Lions.
the lions suck again. and all is right with the world.
were putting up a better fight than the packers did
but Nice drive..
Defense has been on the field all night.
Our pass d is horrific on both levels
If you can stop their run you stop their offense. Unfortunately, that is easier said than done.
He missed a wide open Pettigrew. That is a rookie mistake.
Quick enough. He was probably the 4th read on that play
stafford is killin me.. he needs to take a look at someone besides calvin. pettigrew was WIDE open there
This offense goes as Stafford goes and today he looks like shit.
He's got happy feet thats for sure... There was a play in the first quarter that brought nightmares of joey harrington into my head..
3rd down defense is horrendous
Welp game over
Fucking pathetic tackling. That should have been fourth and 2 at best
on an obvious passing down? All Alex Smith is ever going to do is dump it down 5-7 yards to a slot or tight end. Bring the blitz and make that throw that much more challenging! Jesus Gunther, it ain't rocket science.
Does it look like the Lions are trying to stop on a sheet of ice and the 49ers move by them with a simple cutback?
49ers convert two long 3rd downs. Is GERG working for the Lions now?
Vermeil's choice for DC was Greg Robinson, whose defenses were so craptastic that Vermeil was forced to fire GERG, whereupon he hired Cunningham to return to KC as DC.
Can't wait until we dump Raiola and Peterman
Titus Young needs to get cut. He does nothing good.
He hung that ball up there way too long. Young's too scrawny and weak to challenge the safety.
Overreaction. Easy there. He is not the reason the Lions are losing.
Oh, I understand he's not the reason we are losing, I just think his roster spot would be better served with another player. He basically had a touchdown earlier but gave up on the route. But it's not even that, just a combination of all the little problems he's seemed to cause. Obviously, we don't know the details of the situations and are only given info from the media but MAN he really doesn't seem like a guy I'd want on my team!
I said in the offseason that Young needs to go, so at least my opinion on him is no overreaction caused by a loss. He's disgustingly immature, has impulse issues on the field that create personal fouls, gives up on routes, doesn't show he knows how to read his defender to make appropiate route reads, and constantly deals with tight coverage by pushing off. He's like a young, angry Randy Moss with only a fraction of the talent and potential Moss had. Worst part is, despite him saying he was doing his best this offseason to mature as a person and player, he's showing no improvement. His cons far outweigh his pros and I'd be a lot happier with a more raw player who can be coached.
No, there are 50+ years worth of reasons why the Lions are losers.
Out coached and out played!
I'm not gonna overreact here guys - the 49ers are an elite team (in two years!!) The lions could make the playoffs depending on how the bears end up but they a) can't tackle b) aren't consistent c) stafford is a good QB, but there are obvious things that keep him from being considered elite, it's not only about yardage records.
The secondary is heavily banged up with Delmas (who is really overrated, and was at Ricks on Friday night lol) and Houston both out. The LBs aren't very good and the DL is just inconsistent including you, Suh. Once Broyles gets healthy and Leshore gets out there I think we'll be much better on offense. Bell and Smith looked pretty good today when they got decent blocks, Backus looks good. Calvin Johnson and Jason Hanson are also solid.
We lost by the same differential that green bay did in lambeau. We also are missing our starting RB (maybe even top 2 RBs) and a chunk of our starting defense. I'm content
Stafford looked like a real Lion qb in this one
I don't understand that stupid side-arm toss that Stafford uses all the time. Seems like his accuracy issues stem from that.
I'm really not disappointed, I half expected the Niners to shut down the offense but Jonte Green probably shouldn't see the field anymore, he simply can't cover or tackle. Get healthy quickly Houston and Bentley.
Matt Millen! Horrible draft choices keep a lot of holes on OL and at LB's and secondary. Amazing how fast San Francisco has improved. They were a lame team until Harbaugh arrived. Lion's are out of phase. Once they get a good OL and secondary, then Stafford will be an old washed up QB and the DL will be old.
No... before Matt Millen there was a bigger dbag named Russ Thomas. He did more damage than Millen ever could. Are all the Lions fans in here 16 or something? A lot of you forget so easily.
Mathew Stafford is probably the best quarterback in the 4th quarter with under 3 minutes to play. Of course when your down by two scores that's not saying much.
Wow. Bad luck on that onside kick. The ball looked like it was filled with water. Stopped dead without even a bounce. Never seen that before.
Alot of crazy talk here. The Lions lost on the road to a team that was an OT loss away from the Superbowl last year. Let's see what they look like with Leshoure, and when they're not missing 3 of 4 starters from their secondary. Its week two, people. The Lions have some holes due to questionable draft day decisions no doubt, but there aren't too many teams in the NFL that are flawless. I mean, Arizona just went into Foxborough and beat the Pats. From what I've seen for two weeks, the NFL is wide ass open, as usual. Before the year started, I thought Green Bay was a lock for the division title, but after two weeks I'm not so sure. They looked just as bad, if not worse, at home against the Niners.
Uh, the Lions lost the last two games of the season last year by 99 points.
The secondary for that debacle is gone -- replaced by traning camp cast offs from other teams.
Additionally, the Lions have ZERO running game and the left side of the O line sucks -- so does the center.
The Lions will be lucky to go 9-7
What are you talking about? We lost the last two games last year by a combined 21 points, and that was to the Saints and Packers, both on the road.
Arizona is 2-0 and New Orleans is 0-2, fergodsakes!
bummer, but lost to a better team. The schedule looks good for the next few games, Go Lions, Go Blue
Are just not up to the elite of the NFL. Harbaugh made them look bad in all phases of the game, despite the fact that the Lions appeared to have a physical advantage on offense and defense. Such a frustrating game.
If the post is true, quit neg banging just because you don't like it. Grow up babies.
Will running game improve with Leshoure or is most of it because of the O-line?
