Lions-Bears Open Thread

Submitted by LS And Play on

As close to a must win as you can get for the Lions this week. If they can't put up points on an awful Bears secondary, it's just not ever going to happen. Go Lions!

But I really wish the Lions would've drafted Lewan. I said it leading up to the draft and got hammered because, yes, the Lions had 4.5 solid starters. But one guy goes down and you end up with an uFA at LT.

I think all elite teams have 6 starting OL. Eventually one guy gets "too" good and they don't want to pay him and he leaves in free agency and that 6th guy moves in and they just draft another 6th guy. Or if someone gets hurt --- or retires.

I just sucks seeing the Lions with a "meh" OL again after it had become somewhat of a strength.

Having Lewan would've been a nice luxury. Especially with Pettigrew and Fauria on the roster (no one knew at the time they'd battle injuries like they would --- Ebron as well).

Lewan and one more RB and I think this offense is still clicking even with the injuries to key players.

It's just frustrating because it wasn't hard to see the same thing back in April.

Finish off the offense like you did the defense. They took DL when they didn't really need them and low and behold guys leave or get hurt and the defense is still clicking.

1. Taylor Lewan - OT
2. LaMarcus Joyner - DB
3. Bryan Stork - C
4. Jared Abbrederis - WR
4. Larry Webster III - DE
5. Ronald Powell - OLB
6. Tyler Gaffney / Storm Johnson - RB
7. Ahmad Dixon - SS

No clue if that would've been a better draft. Probably too early to tell, but my thinking was always get Lewan just because I thought he was the best available and we needed a 6th OL. Get Joyner because everyone knew we needed a DB, Stork because Raiola is old. Abbrederis because I didn't know how good Tate would be and I think Stafford needs a "Welker/Edleman." Webster and Aaron Lynch were the DEs for the 4th round, Powell because I think Detroit needs an OLB pass rusher. Gaffney/Johnson are similar backs that I think would compliment Bush and Bell. Dixon was a flyer...

would have impacted Lewan as well. You don't draft 1st OT as depth. That is a bad use of cap space.I would have gone with a CB, S, or DE. Heck, I'd even look at DT because of Suh.

The Lions need a C and an G. The middle of the line has been really poor this year. Raiola and Sims are gone after this season.

The Lions do need a speed rusher on the outside. They are developing Webster to do that, but a more proven option ought to have been found.

but I predicted we'd drop at least one to Chicago, maybe two. I think the only loss we can afford is GB in the "if we can get Harbaugh get him here ASAP" game. Need to get both GB & Det in the playoffs as the South is only getting one for sure. Have to go 11-5 at worst (IMO) to get in, have GB get in, Dallas, Philadelphia, South Winner and Arizona has to hang on our Seattle needs to step up. I don't want to actively root against SF but if we can get Jim, we kind if want them to miss the playoffs as I think they're built for a long run.

Thank goodness for the Bears defense.

And, speaking as a Browns fan - really thank goodness we failed at getting Trestman and got "stuck" with Pettit instead.

C'mon Bears! Bear down! Crush those baby powder blue Lions!

The way UMs season went I gotta have something to cheer about in football, the Bears aren't doing much better.

The Lions had one of the toughest three game stretches I've seen in the NFL this year. In that stretch they went 1-2 and lost by one possession to the 2nd best team in the NFL IMO. I just don't understand why people are jumping off the bandwagon.

Good game played by the Lions today. Great way to rebound after a brutal three game stretch. Hopefully they can go 3-1 in these last four games and finish 11-5. I would hope that that would be enough for a playoff berth

Should he interesting to see what happens. I have a hard time thinking Arizona is gonna keep up the pace. Seattle and San Fran will maybe split or at least one team will take out the other. Hopefully 10-6 is enough but we really shouldn't lose to anyone but the packers here on out. Would be amazing to get to 11-5.
