Link: OT - A Look At New Uniforms Around The Country For 2013

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

The OT is because I wanted to make it clear that these aren't Michigan uniforms.

Unfortunately it IS a click whore site, however, it gives you a good look at all of the new looks of this year.

It also rates each jersey going from D (1 of 18) to A (18 of 18).

I wanted to link this because 1. I didn't know all of these schools had changes...and 2. It's the off season and we love "UNIFORMZ."

I like a few in there...Georgia, Ole Miss red, Oregon St, Wake Forest white, and PSU, but there are some really ugly ones in there too like Arizona's puter helmet, UCF's helmets, the Oregon-esque Indiana helmet, and UNC looks awful.  I liked UNCs old uniform, it was already unique.  I don't know why helmets are getting so weird.  Classic plain helmets are much better looking IMO.  Some of the best helmets are UM, PSU, Florida, USC, Miami, Clemson, Texas, Auburn, Georgia, Nebraska, Notre Dame, FSU etc.  I hate to admit it but I've always liked Iowa's helmet a lot too.  I actually do like Texas Tech's new helmet, but it's because it's plain.  Those classic helmets are good for a reason...they haven't changed much in decades.

I liked State's helmet when they had the S, but that Spartan is so ugly. They should go back to the S logo for more stuff than that spartan head.

I like the new uniform as a whole better...the pants and jersey are nicer, but I agree that the sparten logo is a downgrade.  I don't mind the line down the middle of the helmet, but it would look better with the "S".  And, don't get me started on that awful uniform that they love to wear against us that is all dark contrasting forrest green and black with no white and the puter helmet...that is awful.

Arizona's copper helmets are great - good look (still a solid color with the classic A), and the copper ties into state history (Arizona was and is a major copper producer). I'd actually be okay with Sparty doing a copper helmet with a block S for the same reason (much better than the "bronze" they tried).

The rainbow numbers on the Arizona unis are, however, awful. And apparently they require an NCAA waiver since numbers are supposed to be a solid color contrasting the main uniform color.

As I was going through this slide show, my wife - an EMU alum - walked in and saw the EMU helmet, which actually does resemble the houndstooth hat of one Bear Bryant. Either that, or it is one of those things where you have to stare persistently at it for a minute or two to see the actual photo. In any case, my wife rolled her eyes and walked off.

The intern got to do Eastern...

Plus, who (farther than 20 miles from Ypsi) cares about Eastern football?  Honestly, will they be on television once this year?  Hell, they'd be lucky to get a picture in the Freep.  I guess those 3,500 people in the stands will be getting a really exclusive look!

They're trying to find an identity.

They don't belong in the FBS.

If Montana who has a strong follow in their state and around the country with alums, a damn near sold out stadium every game and being a relevant FCS team every year isn't in FBS but EMU is......jeez.

But I applaud EMU. They're trying to be notable for something.

The mod edited OP explains the Deadspin thing well enough. To save you some time on reading the thread, the Ghost of Yost situation was simply a case of someone making a lame post, as most people have, and then trying to defend said lame post by repeatedly making lamer posts. Someone finally had mercy and dropped the hammer on him. And that is the board gossip for the day.

I know Wolverine fans aren't very fond of uniform changes given our tradition but I think that we could use a clean, modern change to our uniforms without overdoing it just like WVU or even UNC did here. The minimalist uniforms are really sharp.

"The minimalist uniforms are really sharp"...

Michigan's uniforms are FUCKING MINIMALIST TO BEGIN WITH! Adidas is the one putting stripes, logos, ads, colors, and general shit where it shouldn't be.  Give me the jerseys from the 90s, call them permanent throwbacks to keep Dave happy and then stick with them for the next 90 years.  Alabama, ND, USC, Texas, PSU and MICHIGAN... all minimalist, all historic, all powerful.

Let the garbage programs play dress up with like 8 year old girls and sell all the shitty gimic jerseys to flat-brim wearing non-grads if they want, but Michigan should stay above the fray.  Unfortunately, I think Dave Brandon would welcome the embarassing type of fans ohio brings in if it meant more $.

I agree that Adidas uniform changes suck but my point was that you can remain traditional even though trying out new uniforms. Once you go all Maryland on us then you've clearly gone too far. But just because you tweak unis doesn't mean you have to go to unspeakable extremes with it.

And lets not forget, the kids do like alternate unis which is a plus any way you slice it.

There's nothing to suggest that revamping and expanding your uniforms leads to on-field success. Only one team has a correlation between jersey options and success, and that is Oregon. Only problem with that is that the newfound success also correlates with dump trucks full of money from Nike being pumped into their facilities.

The only sound argument for changing your uniform is increased apparel sales.
