This point remains dumb.
at least it's not just us?
This point remains dumb.
that was media blitz at it's not so best.
Fitz didn't do anything wrong. He just explained where the nickname came from. Did you read what he actually said?
That's ridiculous. Of course they had something to prove its a rivalry game. I am pretty sure they would have been fired up regardless of what Fitz said.
I agree that the media kind of took what he was saying out of context, but I still feel like Hoke needs to instruct his players better before the week of this game not to mention "little brother" references even if you are just stating it like Fitz did.
Yeah I don't think Fitz comments directly made them more fired up, but you can bet that it made MSU's win over UM today taste even 'sweeter'.
Honestly, while I stood in the rain and watched today's game I felt like I had found myself in a paradox universe. "Michigan Men" do not go to Staae!
Im sure this isn't what he imagined when he decided to return. He's just as frustrated as the rest of us.
How much worse the OL would be right if he hadn't come back??
He shouldn't be wearing #77, that's for damn sure. Give some more soundbites and go out and go nothing. That's the legacy of #77, right?
YEAH! TAKE AWAY HIS JERSEY, COACH HOKE!!! THAT'LL TEACH HIM!!! PEOPLE WHO WEAR THE VAUNTED TONY PAPE'S JERSEY NUMBER SHOULDN'T ACT LIKE THAT!!!!!!
This holier than though attitude some of you carry around as Michigan fans/alums is sickening. Get over yourselves.
I hate the "this will never happen again" stuff, THJ did it after the msu bball game, Lewan and Gardner pouted like little kids after the Akron game, the crap that was said this week leading up to this game. It just needs to stop, the coaches need to eliminate these things.
It's like Hart talking crap and going 0-4 vs ohio. Just shut up and play.
Kalis talking crap about blood being on the ground and it's not going to be his even before he stepped foot on campus.
It's a joke.
are actually defending Lewan on the helmet twisting post-play. This is exactly the same as Gholston 2 years ago and you're criticizing him. If you see any other MSU players does the same as Lewan, you would be furious and call them dirty for it.
who is defending him? Comment on those comments.
some are excusing him about it. That's a hallmark of a homer fans with maize and blue goggle on them.
comments doesn't push the discussion it just gets more meta. There is a time and place for outrage (Sandusky) - this is not one of them. What Lewan did was play a part in a story these two teams, schools, coaches and players have been writing for years. It takes place in a football setting that is not entirely just. If it were - this would never have happened.
Read the Fable of the Bees before you ask for this sort of justice. It's not all cut and dry.
you're looking stupider and stupider everytime you post
Taylor Lewan plays for Michigan. I respect him for that and refuse to skewer him for these "antics" at least.
Instead I'd rather go to the OL thread and focus my rage on the unit as a whole.
playing with an edge/nasty streak and being stupid. Lewan crossed the line when he tried to twist the helmet.
What did I say anything about the team when I specifically talked about Lewan? The team is mediocre at best and is likely to finish with a 7 win this season based on Akron, UConn, PSU and now MSU game.
What kind of douche-baggery is that??? It's vagina-monologue-ness bullshit like that that allows a team to accept rushing for -48 yards. Why don't you STFU you little sandusky wannabe...
There is a different thread for that. Reading doesn't seem to be your forte. So be it.
If you want a team to play tough they need to know they have each others back. To give less isn't going to help. There's a seamy side to football that calls for enforcement. If you understand that then you can skip Phil 152 and move on with your sticks and stones.
That's the world we live in.
...a highly competitive 22-year old who let his emotions get the best of him during what has to have been the most frustrating three-ish hours of his young life. Relax.
Oh wow. 22 years old. He's so young. Does he still breastfeed?
I guess this whole board owes Gholston a huge apology then
Some of what he did was uncalled for or flat dirty but he went nuts right before the half for a reason - one of the State linemen pulled the Schiano bush league crap on the kneeldown. Totally valid for him to be pissed and terrible for the announcing team to not notice what set him off because it was pretty obvious.
What pisses me off is that Taylor knows the history here better than anyone. He knows MSU is going to be putting a special emphasis on him. He knows their fanbase and the cameras are watching him like a hawk. He has a reputation for things like this. Then he spouts off on the "bullying" thing this week.
And this is what he does.
He's a senior. He's a captain. He's a guy who should know better. It's time to get some composure, show some maturity, and be a leader. I don't care how frustrating it was. There were 21 other guys on that field today that were just as frustrated. But none of them were twisting helmets and taking extra shots. That's not what Michigan Football is about.
He supposedly came back to Michigan for a reason. I just wonder if he really gets it.
Covered up a rape according to an article (on MGo if you search for Gibbons) which is far worse than anything on the field.
I'm starting it nor like am football anymore.
Care to revise?
Funny that you didn't have your torch and pitch fork out for Lewan before the game...... But now that he had a bad game and embarrassed the brand we must all pile on and throw out allegations 3 or 4 years old that have never been proven true or false. If he did it he should be in jail plain and simple. But to bring up these allegations that have never been proven everytime he has a bad game or loses his temper is petty. If you had gone on this rant before the game I would actually take you serously but after the game sounds like bitter assholery.
To be fair, there were a lot of folks who were vocally disappointed in Taylor (and Gibbons) for whatever their involvement was in that particular situation. The problem was discussion about it was pretty much shut down when the story first came out, and then was pretty tepid the second time around. Even if Gibbons wasn't completely in the wrong, Lewan's role in the situation was not admirable. At all.
Is it perhaps poor form to conflate it with this situation? Maybe. But the outcry isn't new.
I have no problem with anyone being disappointed in Taylor and Gibbons. If they did the things they have been accused of they should be kicked of the team and in jail. The problem is that the victim refused to press charges so none of this can be proven or disproven. I would have a lot more respect for someone if they had brought up this discusion say after the press confrence were Taylor talked about being bullied by state , maybe saying that Taylor shouldn't talk about bullying when he intimidates woman or whatever. Not after a game when your just mad because the team lost and Taylor embarrased himself. Thats taking unprovable cheap shots and just being an asshole.
Out of all things to bitch about your gonna bitch about Taylor Lewan ? Ok.
I'm sure every RCMB'er is looking at this board and basking in the scheudenfraude, but I'm going to call a spade a spade:
Two years ago, we all bombarded Gholston with critiques of his dirty play. Lewan is equally deserving of that criticism today, if not more so. He's not only a senior; he's our captain, and while I understand he was in an extremely frustrating situation, he let his emotions get the better of him, and it made him look like a flat out jackass.
I hate calling players out, as I'm not the one putting forth the effort and time on the practice field, but Lewan embarrassed himself and the program today.
Do whatever they want. He's a Michigan Man....you're welcome.
At least in Taylor's case.
I was honestly ashamed by his actions today. Yes, it's a fight and the refs let a lot go on both sides but have been watching since the 2011 game. For our supposed leader, he didn't act or play like it today. The OTs were pretty much the only people not letting their men get to Gardner in a half second but that doesn't excuse the way he behaved.
Only silver lining is the mentality that we've lacked since the RR era as every year this msu team has come out with essentially the same offensive gameplan (run and throw quick ins, outs, slants, drags and then go deep off of PA) so that didn't surprise me but defensively they have literally played dirty and, quite frankly, their asses off under MD. Silver lining being that his actions were, IMO, a player knowing the game could not be won and he at least showing his teammates that we can (NEED TO) start punching back to, even figuratively, or this will become more than a trend and impede our program's future against what I used to always view as our 3rd biggest rival.
Until RR, I was literally NEVER worried about msu. NEVER. I expected us to win and we did the large majority of the time. It's safe to say that with players he seemingly finds off the street, MD has built a defense that can roll big in this league. I say league because, no sour grapes, they always get exposed in bowl games. Even the Georgia comeback win was more Georgia and "Lloyd Carr of the SEC" Richt taking the foot off the pedal. Now, the national perception is that msu is TOUGHER than Michigan and I'm seeing it. I'm flat out seeing it. Gardner gets into the faces of his OL only to completely fold in fear a yard before a gimme 1st down? I counted 7 times in just the replays that show the WRs where he had time to hit them WIDE OPEN and he would freak out a half second after getting the ball and do a Benny Hill impression.
They are tougher. They want it more. From the coaches to the players, they want it more and coach their kids (especially on defense) to play like it. I've said a million times that under MD, msu will always be good for 7-10 wins due to simply coaching basic football and hating UM so much that he prepares for the game year round to these results. He outcoached Carr. He outcoached RR. Now, he is outcoaching Hoke.....or rather the guys he gives almost complete control of his team to.
So, Lewan was a disgrace today but if you have to get dirty in hopes of getting that mentality into the heads of your team? I almost don't blame him as many units/players/staff didn't even seem like they wanted to be there or even prepared for TWO WEEKS. I kind of want to give Lewan a pass for at least showing some emotion. Yet, as scrappy as the game always is, doing to that guy what Ghoston did to him 2 years ago is a disgrace. Not countng the 2 other things that SHOULD have gotten him ejected.
Lewan's behavior is unacceptable. 2 years ago MSU fans lost a lot of integrity defending Gholston. I hope our fan base doesn't lose integrity defending Lewan's actions.
Wrong? Yep. Understandable? Yep. Where did the bloody gash in his forehead come from? Self mutilation?
We will see what ramifications come of his actions. -- and none of us will have a single vote in the matter.
I live near East Lansing and watched the game in a sparty bar as I do most years. Yes I am a glutton for punishment. I didn't see the neck twist live so I spent a lot of capitol that I shouldn't have defending Lewan last night. I relised that after I got home and saw the replay. Oh shit he did it what a ass. But his bloody face was one of the things I brought up to sparty saying hey he must have hit himself in the face because no sparty would have ever bloodied him that way. That was greated with a lot of silence.
That being said he played dirty yesterday and should not have. He deserves whats coming to him if that is a suspension or drop in draft stock he brought it on himself.
But its not what Gholston did either. The face grab was during the play and literally happens all the time when linemans hands get to high, its dumb, its a penalty, it happens and is not dirty. Just a bad play. The face wash/shove was dumb and undoubtedly should not have happen, but to compare it to a straight up punch or twisting a guys head off AFTER the play is over, whom you are on top of and not arguing with, is a bit much.
But than again, the reaction on this board is more unacceptable. The way the fans on this site have basically sold out on the players and coaches makes me far more embarrassed for my school than the actions of any of the athletes or coaches. Time for everyone to start thinking before they post.
He twisted one on the ground Gholston style as well yesterday. I didn't see it live either had to look it up when I got home but he did it.
Who cares - He has not provided leadership when it counted. He plays with no mean streak. No rhythm. He and Kalis are flat footed and can't slide or move and can't drive anyone forward. He played this way last year if you watch old video... Stands up. No leverage. No leadership during times of adversity. Just a lot of talk during camp and no communication on the field during games. Not a top 15. 2nd or 3rd round. If lucky. Best.
You're right. Every scout and analyst has it all wrong. Maybe you should go tell them. /s
relax he is a great player and a first rounder even though sometimes he is a hot head
Was that Isaiah Lewis he Gholstoned? Blech. Makes it tough to root for the kid. Thank God basketball season is here.
I may be wrong for saying this, but I actually enjoyed Lewan giving it back to them. Everyone talks about toughness and bringing a swagger back. I may not have liked the penalty but like someone has already eluded too these are thugs with a chip on their shoulders. The best way to get even is to just dominate them; however, it is difficult to dominate someone when your O-line mates are not heloing the cause. This was purely out of frustration and for that I can deal with it. His NFL stock is solid and will still be a 1st rounder he has been the only lineman to play consistent all season.
But the media sometimes tell the story they want you to see and not the whole story. I'm 100% he took much more than he gave.
There is not now, and never will be, any justification for twisting a guy's facemask (and head/neck) while he is on the ground.
None. End of story.
Why is that weird? The older you get the more you realize people are crazy. It doesn't matter which team they support.
