odd.  for as well as hoke is recruiting, he has yet to break the RR jinx of always losing head-to-head announcement battles ala pryor, dunn, levenberry, etc.  it's almost to where i'd rather see that a kid is choosing between UM and at least 2 other schools rather than head-to-head.  why we never win these recruits I'll never know.

It's actually a credit to Hoke, not a detriment.

These are mostly guys that we are in on late, often from other areas of the country, that would normally have little interest in us.

But Hoke and the University itself sell the program very well, to the point that recruits we have no business being in on have us in their top two or three.  The hit rate on these types of recruits is always going to be very low.

Believe me, we have a very high hit rate for recruits that we are in on early that have an affinity for a program like Michigan's.  That hit rate is so good in fact, that it lets us take a flier at some of these long shots.  And most of them we won't get.

Let me put it this way, the fact that we got a player like Shane Morris relatively easy and early does not make him any less exciting because we did not get him on National Signing Day versus Texas or Florida.

Say whatever you want about teenagers and spotlights and special moments and such, but I lose respect for a person that resorts to the hat-picking public announcement.

Michigan is currently loaded with LB's with at least 2 more 4-star recruits verbally committed for 2013.  Not sure why Levenberry took so long to decide FSU would provide him a better opportunity.

I know this is offtopic, but I was checking FSU's commit list on ESPN. Their top recruit, Maquedious Bain, committed on 11/9/2012. I guess somebody took the Delorean and brought back the news.

Welp, this opens things up for the Cali 4.  Cravens, Mathis, Hutchings, Vanderdoes.  Dream team.  I want em all.  Seriously though, does it strike anyone as kind of strange that EJ's dad was quoted as saying we'll win a national championship in the next 4 years?  If you believe that, and you obviously like the school and the coaches a lot...  Undergrad majors are overrated.  The ladies I can understand.

I figured this one was probably not going to go our way.  It seems like any time a guy is torn or 50/50 it means he's going to pick the other school.  Best of luck to him and glad he went somewhere that offered the major he wanted.

Plus he'll be in the ACC and not likely to play us.  win-win all around.

The big thing that bothers me in the recruiting world is when a recruit visits, and then publicly states it was 10 of 10, by far my leader, tells other recruits hes coming etc....

then visits college #2, repeats above

then visits college #3, repeats above

Rinse and repeat.........

Last year that seemed to be the Jordan Payton types....

This year seems to be Mathis

Fsu puts out Rhodes scholars and doesn't have near the off field problems as MSU psu uf Miami and many more. Don't make ignorant comments...esp since you don't know what your talking about.

Whatever - you can't win them all.  I'm sure he'll have a good career at FSU, but UM is still in on a number of top kids.  I will say, though, that the love FSU gets on the recruiting trail is surprising given how mediocre they have been on the field for the better part of a decade.  I know Jumbo is turning the program around a bit, but the myth that FSU outfits NFL teams with talented players has taken a hit recently.

You guys were bound to lose a recruiting battle eventually. You'll still find a good replacement for him and end up with a top 5 class so I hope you aren't too upset.

with the two Michigan pulled out of Ohio, plus the outstanding lber haul from last recruiting cycle...EJ would have been gravy on top of cream cheese icing. Food coma might have occurred. In-state lber recruiting looks quite pleasant for 2014!! EDIT: If Michigan doesn't get two quality dl...the natives will then be quite hostile.

Good luck to E.J.. I hope he does very well. He could not have gone wrong with either choice. The only thing I am mad about is that Mike Farrell was right.

I just want to point out how everybody has been reacting to this ("meh," "can't win them all," etc) compared to how we usually react to losing a recruit. It's really a testament to how well we are doing that we can lose on a great 4* recruit and say "on to the next one."
