Why is Ohio out?
this may be of some local interest
Why is Ohio out?
Link? Or speculation?
Mgobluegr from "Tremendous" tweeted out this article:
And then followed it up by saying "The article I just RTed wasn't paywalled for a few minutes so I was able to read it and things are looking positive for Michigan with Conley" (Sorry, I don't know how to do the fancy tweet embed)
So I'm assuming this is what OP is referencing
Hey-o! Looks like Kate Upton follows me on twitter.
Yes, definitely Kate Upton. Certainly not just some random dude.
Do not pay any attention to the man behind the curtain.
No, not that DP you sick-Os. That's what the rest of the internets are for.
about a possible "thing" between Kate Upton and Gareon Conley.
How's that for wild (but baseless) speculation?
Vague thread title. Fail.
Also, why did this need a new thread?
May I ask exactly what you are basing your assumptions on? I see a lot of conclusions without a lot of pesky data to support them.
WTF man? Link? Didn't your college professors ever tell you to use citations?
Most of mine were against citing random unreviewed internet articles, though.
I don't often criticize threads, but this really is very poor. I just gained a new respect for Magnus.
Can you make a more detailed title and could I get a link or a source. Please don't be vague...
Well he's still committed to us, that has to be a good sign.
The internets never lie! And I'm a French model!
It seems like every day someone makes a thread like this about Conley... WHYYYYYYYY?
Bill Greene posted an article on the Scout board
An experienced poster to the rescue. Thank you.
Scout account just tweeted that that Conley is still committed to Michigan. OP is talking about an article from them.
So I guess we'll see what this policy actually entails for a recruit now.
it just means that we'll continue speculating.
Sorry, I forgot I was on the internet.
I have heard that people in his family love Michigan, and that is why there is different stuff coming out everyday. I'm sure he has been changing his mind a lot lately.
Can you please provide a link regarding your assumptions?
I don't see th logic of him still being a commit. I mean, I understand why he;s different than Brown and Dawson, not sneaking around...but Brown and Dawson were sneaking around because of the policy. How does being honest about doing something you're not supposed to do help? How does the policy work if Conley can do this?
He hasn't visited anywhere yet.
So he wasn't at the Ohio game? That's contrary to what I'd been told, but fine then.
If he was I would believe he would have been released from his commitment. The only place I saw he was visiting was on 11 warriors (not very credible). I could be wrong and Hoke could be screwing with all of us.
He was there, though apparently as a fan in the stands.
I assume a player has the freedom to attend any college football game he chooses. Maybe an official is the kicker? In any case, if the staff is cool with it then so am I. I'm just a lowly fan blindly trusting our coaching staff.
He finally responded to me. He says he's still committed to Michigan.
That is good news. Super Duper. Nito gang.
While I think it is sort of odd for grown adults with jobs, families, interests and accomplishments to be quite so concerned about decisions that 17 year olds make potentially impacting the football team they follow several years down the road I am, nonetheless, pleased to hear of this news.
He still sees himself as committed but has he spoke with the coaches yet?
It would be much appreciated for future perusals if you had a more descriptive title to illumine your way. Potential clickers would know the content they have stumbled upon. Also, verification of claims by way of link is the gentlemen's method of navigating the Internet and is greatly appreciated by all. Do consider it for the boys next time, if you will, chap.
That's using the ol' noddle, chappy. Might you have a pinch of snuff I could glean fom you, old boy?
Let's see, I left it up my sleeve here somewhere...ah yes, I'm due back at the powder room at half past for a bit of a primp before I'm off to meet a lovely buxom young lass for tea in the carriage. I do believe I left the stuff in there, unfortunately. Care for a trolly around town?
I'm sure she has a few friends that would be more than considerate of you in your predicament. What with all the confusion around here, I'm off. Toodle-ooh!
Yes the OP must give up some "premium" info or be the vague guy with no link.
the only plausible explanation is LT is definately not in play and the coaches realize they need GC but I am not so sure if I buy that
...The coaches appreciated him being up front about his intentions, unlike with Dawson and Brown.
Just maybe Gareon talked to the coaches about wanting to watch Mich play at O$U so he took the visit and told them Im not interested but just wanna see my team play live
Hoke needs to issue a PSA about this policy! If he visited for the OSU game, how is he still committed?
Have you or anybody here ever hear or read Brady Hoke even mentioning any policy?
http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/index.ssf/2012/10/brady_hoke_explains_hi.... Not exactly conclusive, but I don't think his general stance is a secret...
Yes. Personally. I heard him say it.
as a fan and not a recruit. He was in the stands, never interacted with any recruits or coaches and left the game early. Thats being tweeted by Ohio fans as well.
what kind of person leaves a football person early? nonetheless THE GAME
... but srsly
with the playcalling in the 2nd half and said F it im out...
he left early because he was seated next to this jackass
with a smoking coed after chatting her up in the stands and asked to "see her dorm room"? Or he got hungry and chose a pizza over 60 yards of offense?
Regardless, good to still have him with us.
And can't bear to watch his future teammates suffer, especially when he can't be on the field to help.
Guess that clinches it.
I’m assuming the story on Conley is behind a pay wall and that’s why nobody is giving any solid link/info.
...the paywalled info Conley is quoted as saying he didn't go to visit Ohio per se, he just went to the game. Validated his "to the game" comment by pointing out that, while there, he contacted nobody from Ohio.
Buckeye posters on Scout boards have said this as well...
I hope other recruits don't decide to take visits because of this situation. I'm pretty sure there are a few that wanted to but held off because of the rule in fear of losing their commit status, but now that Conley has seemingly pulled off a visit and remained a commit, others may use this as a reason.
Maybe it didn't count because while it was at osu it was against michigan so technically he could have been there to see us maybe
The problem is other recruits can use that as a reason, too, if the opportunity comes up where they want to visit a school that happens to host Michigan at home.
Well, if Michigan is fighting UConn or Northwestern for a 2014 commit, cross that bridge when you get to it.
I mean, Conley didn't take an official visit which I always assumed was the visit committed recruits weren't allowed to take or their spot would be pulled. Conley lives in Ohio and went to a football game in Ohio, payed his way and watched in the stands. If that was agaisnt this so called "policy" where would it end? A guy can't even go watch a football game and keep his spot in the class? That seems a little harsh IMHE.
There is a very clear line that can't be crossed if I understand the policy and that is recruits can't take official visits to other schools and if they do, they will no longer be considered a commit. Do whatever the hell else you want, go on vacation anywhere in the country and take in a game as a fan, but don't take an official visit to another school. That doesn't seem too difficult to interpret IMHE.
Are you the gun or the strain . . .
My understanding of this policy is a little different from what I'm reading in most of these posts, but I could be wrong.
Setting Dawson aside (because something strange happened there), my impression is that if a Michigan-committed recruit reopens his commitment, Michigan will reopen its search to fill that spot. We might still recruit that same prospect - if we want him - but he's no longer guaranteed a place in the class, and another prospect might grab the seat before him. Being committed, in other words, guarantees that the staff won't say, "Sorry, we found someone better." By looking around, you lose that guarantee but you still could be recruited by the Michigan staff. It doesn't mean that, by policy, they will stop considering you altogether.
Is that consistent with what others believe? Obviously, we're all kind of guessing about this.
That is in general agreement with my understanding. But, given that policy what keeps a kid from taking a visit and then recommitting shortly thereafter. Unless there are other kids of the same or higher caliber waiting for an opening, what are the odds that someone loses their spot under a quick turn around scenario?
They might not be taken back quickly, the staff may not accept a commitment for like a month after a decommitment while they feel out their other options, or something along those lines.
Not sure I understand the "well he let the coaches know of his plans" argument. Remember Richardson and RJS? They were open about it but still were told not to do it.
Sorry guys, I'm sort of accustomed to subtle differences from being a Scout member. I never even though of it as a big deal, as threads(titles) such as this are often the norm. I must agree with the complaints that were given though, and will be more careful in the future.
Basically, Conley said he's still committed to Michigan 100%.
From the dark and mysterious fog of your title, we have found illumination. For that, you must be given credit.
Did he say anything about what happens if Oregon calls two months from now with an offer? My sense is that Oregon could be his true dream school (if not Michigan), not OSU.
Tremendous was able to get ahold of him, and asked the Oregon question. Conley provided no answer. So take it FWIW but at least for now he's in the class.
Oregon is likely to be losing their coach in the next few weeks from what I am hearing here in Eugene. It seems to be a foregone conclusion that Chip is NFL bound.
Their OC is said to be the hire immediatly after Chip leaves for the NFL. Quick succession with someone in house will not make a huge deal to most recruits IMO
He still may be waiting to see how Ohio does in its bowl. Could also depend on how Maurice Clarett and Art Schlichter do at their parole hearings, how the rule against double jeopardy impacts noted Buckeye supporter Casey Anthony, or whether that rumored video of Urban Meyer pleasuring himself while reading his old press clippings ever surfaces.
There is a lot to consider before comitting to a legacy of villainy and infamy. For true.
I thought this was going to be a Gareon Conley haiku tribute thread and was sorely disappointed.
Works well in haiku format

Future home: Ann Arbor
He wanted to see "The Game"
Still loves Maize and Blue
I am sort of worried other recruits will think taking visits will be ok. However I will be glad if Gareon ends up a wolverine.
Worrying about things the staff is paid to worry about isn't one of them.
OK, that's a thread title I can get behind. I'm changing my vote.
Through his visitation process I didn't think he was really on the outs at Michigan by the way he handled it, and felt like once he looked around he'd know he made the right decision in the first place. I'm wondering now who else will be joining him in Ann arbor. I'm guessing Green, and that's not even really a guess. Stranger things have happened, but it looks like we're the best fit for him. I'd also like to see a lineman replace Dawson, and I'd like that to be Hunt. Outside of that we've done pretty good this year. There could easily be room for more with all the kids who we could backdate, I'd still love to get McQuay on board by February on NSD, but maybe that's just wishful thinking. Who knows how USC will be looking by then. With Green and another lineman, plus Conley and Stribling getting ratings bumps Michigan could have the #2 overall recruit class.
It's nice that the distraction of actual football is finally over so that we can get back to the important stuff: football recruiting.
(Not meant as criticism, by the way, as I'm just as guilty as anyone.)
When I saw this comic,
I immediately thought of football recruiting.
"Ohio State beating us could have a serious impact on our future recruiting, which we only care about because it could help us eventually beat teams like Ohio State..."
Alright mod, we get it. Beating a dead horse now.
I'll be pretty psyched if he ends up in this class. Rivals rating be damned, Conley is easily one of the most exciting players in our class, no matter what side of the ball he ends up on.
Off topic a little but Im curious to where Dawson will end up on NSD. Any guesses?
though Sparty had an in-home with him today. Is M completely out of the running for him now? I never read the details of his decommitment.
I'm pretty sure that ship has sailed, given how messily it ended.
Sam Web tweeted that Conley says he is "100% committed to Michigan".
How about that GR3?
wouldn't necessarily be as bad as taking an official to another school. Particularly if you took said visit in blue overalls.
Wait I thought we hated him and he sucked at football now?
Catch up! That was before he was back on board!
For a fan base that prides itself on being 'a cut above', we had an awful lot of people stating how marginal a loss he would be. I hope those people have the decency to apologize, particularly if he stays committed.
If you love something, let it go. If it was meant to be it will come back to you. . .
when I left my 4 yr old at the mall for the weekend.
I tried that with my four year old but the fucker found me. Kids: can't live with em, can't leave em at the mall.
She knows our house is sort of "brownish", AND I made her a sandwich!
Classic government overreach, like we're a bunch of Euro Baby-coddlers!
I have a four year old and as much as this line of joking disgusts me it also made me laugh out loud. FWIW - my litte f-cker is smarter than I am and its more likely he'd jump in the car and leave me at the mall than the other way around. Dammit.
I HAD to upvote this because I keep checking back here every hour to see if there is anything new on Gareon because I want him at UM very much badly. JUst like last year with Diggs (to make sure he didn't pick ohio) and Kazan or whatever his name was that went on a vision quest I keep hitting refresh in hopes there is some good news.
It's Chief Running Kozan to you
i have diarrhea. how did i get it?
well, yesterday's greasy eggs are out as a cause. you would think they'd be a likely cuprit, but they've passed. seems like it's probably last night's fish. i'd say it's the fish' race to lose.
Obviously we need more details on how you know the eggs have passed...
Word on the street is he has decommited from UM. Not sure if he is heading to tOSU but that would be my guess.
