Let's say for the sake of argument that Burke does leave...

As Brian recently posted, that leaves Michigan with the possibility of Della Valle, Albrecht, and some as-yet unknown candidates.  Sam Webb has mentioned the possibility of someone using the graduate transfer rule to join Michigan from another school, but he hasn't come up with any names.

Am I missing anything?  Does anyone have a reason to be optmistic about Albrecht given that he apparently has no scholarship offers?  How about Della Valle, who is apparently more of a two guard?  Is there some unhappy PG who's already graduated from Alabama Tech who has a year of eligibility left and who can really handle an offense?

As for Stauskas, I know people are going to mention him, but the kid just isn't a PG, is he?  I'd like to be wrong.

The fundamental difference between this and the sets Beilein prefers is that Wisconsin is trying to post people up, while Beilein likes to keep the lane clear and plays for back cuts and threes. What they have in common is that, at least in theory, the four outside players rotate through all four positions (or sometimes it's five players rotating through all five).

You can run these offenses in the half court without a designated point guard. But you have to be able to get the ball up against pressure and you need someone to handle when you run unless you never want to run.

This year's offense was heavy on the high ball screens and thus point guard dependent, something Beilein chose to do because he had a quality point guard. But the sets he's mostly used in the past are derived from offenses like the shuffle where the four outside positions (and in some cases all five) are interchangeable. Once you get the ball up the floor, they're more or less pointguardless, a lot like the stuff Wisconsin runs.

I think we'll see a lot more grinding through the skin and the shuffle etc. next year, and I think it'll be more effective than people expect.

Considering the recent investments in the basketball facilities & increase in ticket prices (perhaps in anticipation of a coming dynasty), I sense one very panicked Dave Brandon following Trey around campus doing a good bit of groveling. Which, for pure entertainment value, I'd love to watch.

Not making the argument that these investments & pricing decisions were predicated on Burke (renovations pre-date Burke), but one has to assume DB sees the enthusiasm getting sucked out of the fanbase if we lose Burke.

No enthusiasm=fewer sales; fewer sales=sad DB; sad DB=dead drifters.

Enthusiasm=sales; sales=happy DB; happy DB=fewer dead drifters. So, for the sake of Michigan's drifters, I hope Burke stays.

Hopefully it doesn't come down to Edible Arrangements. That'd be a clear reason to leave, in and of itself.

Having seen relatively little tape, I still hope GRIII gets some looks as a point forward type.  I thought his handle looked as good as anyone on the roster.  I'm sure Stauskas will get some looks, but I thought GR looked better.  In any case, I definitely don't buy the idea that we have to have little dudes at the 1.  You just need enough handle and decision-making skills.

What matters is if he would have grown beyond what he'd be projected to by NBA scouts by sticking around another year.  NBA talent evaluators assume 19 year olds will get better. Beilein's a great coach, but Trey's certainly shown he's incredibly self motivated and driven to improve.

McGray won't change his mind, right?  If that happens, someone needs to step in and find out what Belein is saying to these kids.

There needs to be a 3-yr rule.  The vast majority of kids leaving early are physically ready and those few that are, most likely aren't emotionally ready.  Bad for college hoops and doesn't help the NBA either.

Other option; Devon Moore - James Madison. Ok stats. From Columbus.
